This is great news. Two pro franchises with billionaire owners guarantees a best in class facility. If the Spain v Haiti match and the World Soccer Masters finals draw over 30,000 crowds it should be a no brainer.

Bring back the Miami Fusion?
Awesome. -
Another sport Miami fans won't attend. Expert maneuver. Not my money, so...
-
They would have to be nuts to open an MLS franchise in Miami and use sunlife as their venue, not nuts, dumb as hell more like it..
Go to portland and see how they do it up there and start a culture the right way, with a proper venue for the sport..they are building these US soccer stadiums all over, their really cool because their cognizant of how important the size is and how close the fans are to the action..
Of course Ross would like anyone to use that morgue..I don't blame him. -

You're 100% right about the importance of the culture, I just disagree about stadium vs. culture. Jeld-Wen is great because of the culture, not the other way around. The Timbers Army gets their own sections (about 4k seats) right behind the north goal. The Timbers Army is a fan run (not MLS/Timbers) organization that gets to set their own rules for their sections, and they get a portion of the proceeds of the ticket sells in their sections. They set the tone for the stadium. I cannot think of anything analogous in the NFL.
MLS needs management that is willing to work with the fans much more than the more established sports. It also needs fans that want to do more. I don’t know the soccer culture in Miami, but Ross seems to like control. Portland also has a long tradtion and history with the Timbers. The culture here was not built overnight, and endured different owners and leagues. -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but when Robbie built the stadium, he made the field large enough to accommodate soccer. It could be great for Miami.... there are plenty of soccer fans there. Are they going to sell out 72k? Doubtful. Do they have to? No. Interest in soccer has gradually improved since 1994 here in the US (since the WC) and so has the product on the field.
I much prefer it to baseball. At least an hour shorter. Continuous action. Better athletes and you don't have to juice up or be on speed to play a full season. There's a reason why it's the worlds most popular sport.smahtaz and Stringer Bell like this. -

Would there be a Shot at hosting a World Cup sometime in the next 20 years, or is that already predetermined?
That billion dollar windfall may light a fire under state reps asses. Then again, 5 Superbowls in as many years should have too. -
My point is if you are going to start a new sports franchise, in order for that culture to start out right, you will need to have a venue that is condusive to energy, atmoshere, intimacy, these are critical factors in developing the relationship between fans and team, which is critical in having a passionate culture..bad venues suck the passion right out of you, if you don't think these have a tangible negative affect on a culture I completely disagree. -
Can you get me a work visa and a job.
$25/hour minimum please. -
Brazil 2014
Russia 2018
Qatar 2022
However it is very likely USA gets 2026 considering they almost won 2022 and only lost because of Fifa's internal corruption (allegedly) -

Jeld-Wen is an awesome venue IMO for the reasons you listed above (outside of bathrooms). They CAN make it bigger though. Boors Architects did a plan that would add 20,000 seats to Jeld Wen. Would have been badass, but I'm thinking the money at the MAC club may have squashed it.
I'd love to see Jeld Wen enlarged. The density and area are what make that place so special.
On a side note, I've been waiting for Timbers tickets for 2 years. But I LOVE my thorns seats...3rd row. -
The problem soccer is there is more flopping than a LeBron James highlight video.

Sounds like a rumor but I'm hoping for the refusion of Fusion. -
I'm firmly on one side of this topic, you understand why he's cheating to get a call?, there's no question about his talent and what he does for his team, but this is separate and it's not a good look for the current mvp..really think he needs to stop it or the publicity from it is only gonna create a distraction, if it hasn't already, goodness it's the lead story on every program, fans are chanting it in the stadium in unison, it's just not a good stigma to attach yourself to.. -

Can they use Marlins Park? Maybe then there would actually be a tenant people liked.
Miami can't match Portland, but they might be able to carve out a good fanbase. They deserve a 2nd chance. But Portland is fantastic...the Timbers regularly sell it out, and their NWSL (new women's league) team the Thorns has more season ticket holders (around 7500) than the Marlins do. I decided to start watching MLS recently, became a Thorns fan because of Alex Morgan, and now a Timbers fan because of it and watching Timbers/Thorns games you just get so sucked into the environment even on a computer stream because the fans are so great. By the way, nice to see another Thorns fan on here.
USA could be likely to host the 2026 world cup. I think Japan will get the 2019 women's world cup, which combined with hosting the men's WC in 2002 might hurt their chances at 2026 (and possible Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics). And Qatar is also somewhat close to Japan, as is Russia. Think they'll want to come back over here. USA, England, and Canada could be likely. Don't laugh at Canada. They show up big for tournaments. They sold out their women's friendly today against USA in 1 hour. They're going to have a huge 2015 women's world cup attendance & that could boost their chances at the men's world cup. -

The Timbers Army puts in a hell of a show, they chant and dance the whole time waving flags. There are great seats that cost a lot, or cheap seats in GA in the Army section.
All in it a fantastic time. Wish I had season tickets to the Timbers (2nd year on waiting list). But I LOVE the Thorns games. It's an absolute blast to see the women out there. We still pack 14k people into the stadium. I sit in the 3rd row, right outside of the box. Alex Morgan and Sinclair fully on display. Seats are $15.00 each. It's an absolute blast. I hope the womens soccer league is here to stay.
Oh yeah...and the best part...is the women DON'T FLOP NEARLY as much as the men. It's not even close :)
My comparison, I watched The Chicago fire a lot when I was out in Chicago (when they were good, and Bradley was their coach). Not sure how big the stadium was, but it was a ghost town. Middle of nowhere, tons of empty seats, and 1/10th the energy.
Jeld-Wen is something special. -

Flopping is weaksauce if its a strategy to win, like the Pacers or in much of soccer. Its not a bad thing in cases like LeBron where he's mugged every time he has the ball and its not called. If the refs keep the game unfair, then all bets are off in flopping...and Wake is hurting the team by not adopting a similar approach as LeBron.
