Well I personally like the Barrett, Brooks, and Poyer additions to our defense. These guys are all smart, productive, durable, vet players that can hold things down for a couple of years. Poyer teams with Holland in the secondary, Brooks takes over for Baker, and Barrett steps in for AVG. We still have some holes to fill, but you really can't be upset about the first two days of our free agency.

The Dolphins have agreed to terms with defensive tackle Benito Jones, Dianna Russini of ESPN reports. Jones previously played with the Dolphins in 2020 and spent time on their practice squad in 2021. Now, he could replace Raekwon Davis at nose tackle.

Free agent nose tackle John Jenkins visited Miami this week.

Jones, 26, joined the Lions in 2022 and became a starter in 2023.

He totaled 26 tackles, a sack and six quarterback hits while seeing action on 567 snaps in 17 games with 15 starts.

The Dolphins have made an addition to their tight end corps. Jody Fortson’s agents The Katz Brothers announced that their client has signed with the Dolphins. They did not announce any terms of the deal.

The move to Miami sets up a reunion between Fortson and his former Chiefs teammate Tyreek Hill. They were both in Kansas City from 2019 through 2021 and Fortson remained there through last season, although he did not contribute to the team’s Super Bowl run as he missed the season with a shoulder injury.

Fortson had nine catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games during the 2022 season and he had five catches for 47 yards and two touchdowns in 2021. He joins Jonnu Smith as new additions to the tight end room for the Dolphins.

After releasing Xavien Howard, the Dolphins are bringing in another free-agent cornerback. Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Miami has agreed to terms with Kendall Fuller on a two-year contract. Fowler reports the deal is worth $16.5 million.

Fuller, 29, has spent most of his career with Washington. He was a third-round pick in 2016 and played his first two seasons with the team. But he was sent to Kansas City as part of the Alex Smith trade in early 2018.

After winning Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs in 2019, he signed a four-year deal to return to Washington in 2020 and was with the club for the last four years. In 117 career games with 93 starts, Fuller has recorded 75 passes defensed with 16 interceptions. He finished 2023 with nine passes defensed, two interceptions, and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Now Fuller — No. 21 on PFT’s list of top 100 free agents — is slated to start opposite defensive back Jalen Ramsey in Miami’s secondary.

Like the Brooks and Fuller signings. Poyer is a little bit on the old side for my taste but he should be an upgrade. The C seems to be a good scheme fit and I would rather have kept AVG then sign Barret who I think is a little downgrade.

Miami Dolphins Re-Sign Salvon Ahmed and Jake Bailey

    Mar 14, 2024 at 02:10 PM

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have re-signed running back Salvon Ahmed and punter Jake Bailey.

Ahmed was awarded off waivers to Miami on Aug. 26, 2020 and has played 38 games with four starts during his four-year career (2020-23). He's totaled 163 carries for 593 yards (3.6 avg.) and five touchdowns, while adding 40 receptions for 274 yards (6.9 avg.) and one touchdown. Ahmed also played in Miami's AFC Wild Card game at Buffalo following the 2022 season. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with San Francisco on May 1, 2020 following a collegiate career at Washington.

Bailey joined the Dolphins on March 17, 2023 and played in all 17 regular-season games, as well as the AFC Wild Card game, totaling 53 punts for 2,424 yards (45.7 avg.) and a 40.7 net average. His 40.7 net punt average was fifth-best in single-season Dolphins history. Bailey is entering his sixth NFL season, having played in 75 career games. He originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick (163rd overall) by New England in the 2019 NFL Draft and was named to the AFC Pro Bowl team in 2020 after he posted a league-best 45.6 net average. Bailey played collegiately at Stanford.

Who was drawing the double teams genius? Wilkins not Seiler. Seiler will not be as good next year without Wilkins drawing double teams. There is a reason Wilkins got paid way more than Seiler.

Brooks is ok, not great. Poyer is over the hill and mostly injured lately, Fuller gave up a 120+ passer rating and 9 touchdowns last season when QBs threw his way.

Fuller actually gave up a 101.9 passer rating when thrown his way. Still not great but he was rated 6th on available CB.

Damn! Did not want to lose Elliott, but that's part of the game. Fuller will be a decent addition. Honestly can't be mad about the players we've signed. Hopefully they work out for us.

    "
Last season opposing quarterbacks produced a cumulative passer rating of 120.4 when throwing to receivers Fuller was covering.

The former Virginia Tech standout allowed 55 of the 80 passes thrown his direction to be completed, and gave up nine touchdowns. All of those figures were a career-worst for the 29-year-old, who was initially a third-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft."

Fuller is not an upgrade at CB.

Nice play to leave out that those five missed games happened in the last 2 years. He missed 4 games in 2022 and 1 last year, but was often on the injury report. He plays hurt a lot and is tough, but he is 31 and past his prime. The Bills let him go to save a measley 6 million against the cap. If they didn't think he was on his way down they wouldn't have let him go.

Dude, I've proven you wrong soooo many times I've lost count. You are the resident grier apologist.

Nice find with the double team rate but still does not negate the point Wilkins drew a lot of double teams which made Sielers job easier. They complementen each other but Sieler is NOT as good as Wilkins, and he will have a lot tougher time performing at the same level with Wilkins gone.

We are screwed because Grier can't draft well enough and misses way too much on his picks to put together a real contender. He had more draft capital than anyone last 5 years and blew most of it on underwhelming players or outright busts. He's drafted only 1 all pro during his entire 8 year tenure.

These players leaving are the few decent players he got right and he can't even keep them on the team.

Rebuild window is over. He blew it.

Phenomenal job by Grier in free agency. Draft is open now to the BPA. OL and WR should be looked at hard in a very deep draft for both.

Weaver is adding tough dudes, hard hitters and veteran leaders to this defense. Something they have been lacking for years.

He is also adding a **** ton of defensive lineman, his specialty. He made a bunch of no names and washed up vets look like great players in Baltimore. Very excited for him to get to work.

Seriously, you seem to hate everything the Dolphins and Grier do, and I mean every single thing. You always take the sky is falling approach.

I’d love to hear what your plans for free agency would have been. Just what could the Dolphins have done that would have lifted you out of your Dolphins depression?

Did Wilkins benefit from Sieler or did Sieler benefit from Wilkins? We don’t really know for a fact (even though you’re screaming at the sky that you know) because they’ve been playing together since Wilkins was a rookie.
What we do know, however, is that both Wilkins and Sieler had very similar performances and production while playing together.

I mean, you actually think Wilkins is so much better than Sieler even though they’ve both been double teamed at the same rate and have pretty much the same production. You wanted to pay Wilkins Aaron Donald money. Lmao… Aaron Donald, and a few others like him, are game changers even when getting double teamed. I don’t see their counterpart DT’s getting the same production as them. Why is that?

As of now d-line and o-line are worse talent wise. I think we upgraded in the LB department same goes for safeties and DBs could be the same depending on Fuller and Smith. So far Grier did alright imo.

edit: it hurts a little bit when you see what the Giants gave up for Burns and what we gave up to get Chubb…
