Per Rotoworld:
Dolphins released OL Artis Hicks from injured reserve.
Per the Miami Herald, Hicks had his contract terminated for "failure to disclose an existing neck injury."

Wasn't Amaya the kid traded in the Bush deal?

With the Dolphins auditioning veteran NFL cornerbacks Alphonso Smith, Aaron Berry and Morgan Trent on Tuesday (see our last post for details), this should trouble them: Of 100 qualifying cornerbacks ranked by Pro Football Focus, Richard Marshall is 78[SUP]th[/SUP] and Nolan Carroll 89[SUP]th[/SUP]. (Sean Smith is 43[SUP]rd[/SUP].) Also troubling: Of the 21 passes thrown against Marshall this season, 14 had bad results (10 catches, for 140 yards plus four penalties). Of the 12 thrown against Carroll, seven had bad results (including five catches for 88 yards).
But if there’s any consolation, the Colts’ Vontae Davis has been worse (12 of 14 caught, for 165 yards).

wtf is WAARF?
What A Roster Find? -
With Cyle's background as a secondary coach you'd hope for better performance from our secondary than what we are getting.

The only issue with Artis Hick was cutting Derek Dennis. Who I think is with the Chefs practice squad.

I like the Amaya signing. Don't understand the Rivera signing. Ireland has churned the roster since week one and no cb or wr. Linebacker, defensive lineman, offensive lineman, safety. Oh well. The receiver situation may be a particularily sensitive topic to him being he is catching it from local media, national media, and fans. And his approach appears to be that he is going to stick with what he has.

CK, what's the official count on the number of times Ray Ray's been cut? 8? -
One thing I have not understood is how quickly everyone jumped to justify the Vontae Davis trade just because he had one bad week in a completely new defense in a completely foreign environment he'd only just got to a week or two before.
I mean come on, are we really down to THAT level of thinking? Anthony Armstrong we forgive and caution we need to give him time to get chemistry because he only just got here, but Vontae Davis oh well whatever he does right away, that just proves he's a ****ty player, right?
Vontae hasn't been good in Indy in a new defense he's still trying to get used to but it's a little unfair to judge the rest of his career based on his first game with a new defense only a week or two after being traded. He's allowing 1.75 yards per coverage snap, counting penalties. That's pretty bad. But I suspect that number comes down by the end of the year. We'll see.
Sean Smith at 0.77 is having a good year. He's not shutdown (nobody is) and he got lucky on a couple of plays against the Jets (what corner doesn't, every now and then?) but it's still a good year for him. His figure only jumps to 0.80 when you count his one defensive holding penalty.
Richard Marshall though has allowed 1.41 yards per coverage snap, and he's been practicing in this role the whole off season. That doesn't even count the 34 yards in penalties he's accumulated which pushes the number to 1.76 yards per coverage snap. He's a sizable liability out there, just as big a liability as Vontae Davis is in a completely unfamiliar defense up in Indy. Nolan Carroll even more so at 1.91 yards per coverage snap counting penalties (1.52 without). Jimmy Wilson also at 1.82 yards per coverage snap.Mile High Fin and Mcduffie81 like this. -

Depending on how many long distance minutes he has.
His slow showing is part of him I guess it's part of Vonte D. I wish we had him at 90% here right now but look at all the 2nd round picks you can figure out who you want this next draft. That's really the only bright side. -
I still say the two best PICKS in Vontae's career with Miami will happen this coming draft.....

My only problem with the Vontae trade is they didn't replace him. Same thing with the Marshall trade. Sure, make the decision that these guys aren't going to be part of the program's future. Great. But make sure you've REPLACED THEM before you kick them out the door. Don't just shove replacing them off into the future and punch more holes in your team.
They thought they replaced Vontae with Richard Marshall but that's a poor replacement. I don't know why they suddenly thought he'd be a good corner when he wasn't really a good corner in Arizona. He was a better safety than corner in Arizona, and that's where they should have put him from the start.Serpico Jones, MrClean, PhinGeneral and 3 others like this. -
I always liked Amaya. I thought he showed natural instincts at S and at worst was a good STs player. I don't know if he'll ever make the jump to starter quality, but it's not out of the question. Regardless, he's a guy I like to have on the roster, a low priced contributor with potential to be more.
