Don't shoot the messenger.
I don't know how reliable this guy he is. Obviously he claims to be an insider (hence the name).

And for those of you who see this as wholly unbelievable, tell that to Tony Sparano.

Anybody who sells gambling picks on their website is absolutely not an "insider".

Yeah, I was about to post the same thing. Kinda bizarre. Not sure what Giddings would know about being a GM outside of scouting personnel.
-
Will play out how it plays out.
Ross can be impulsive. -
The name of the company apparently is Pro Scouts, Inc, not Scouts, Inc which is ESPN's company.
-
Well, the guy was vouched for by Marc Kohn, who is definitely plugged in.
In doing some research on Pro Scout (giddings company) it seems likely that we are already paying them anyway to perform the first level scouting.
Now, I have no idea if the guy would be a good GM, since there is much more to it than scouting, as Ireland has proved, but I sort of like the outside the box thinking here, if the story is true. Much like I loved the Dave Toub/Mike McCoy interviews last year.keithjackson likes this. -
Ireland haters will be willing to take that bet!

Apparently, the Pro Scout system was set up 30 years ago by Giddings father, whow as the coach at Utah for two seasons in the 60's and founded the company in the 80's.
Fisher and the Rams use him and Fisher had Giddings, Jr. in the meeting with Les Snead after Fisher first got the STL job. Apparently they consult for 15-20 NFL teams.
Again, it's interesting outside the box thinking. Of course, that kind of thinking once led the Fords to hire Matt Millen....maynard likes this. -
Assuming it's true, which is a big assumption, I think this is Stephen Ross just trying to get out there and talk to some people and get some perspective on what's going on with his team.
The fact of the matter is Mike Giddings, Jr. is under contract with a dozen NFL teams to provide scouting evaluations. He has systems in place he uses to rate all rosters in the NFL on the basis of talent.
While this PayneInsider guy claims that Ross' meeting with Giddings was definitely to talk about the GM job...it could be Ross is just trying to seek opinions outside of Jeff Ireland on Miami's own roster.
This is from a piece about Jeff Fisher when he came back to coaching with the Rams, and there was a side bar that showed Fisher's schedule during one of the days of the Combine.

Carl Peterson must approve of Jeff Ireland or he would be gone by now.

I am pretty good about verifying sources..and nobody knows this guy.
But I will say this...WHO would make something like this up? That alone makes this very likely true. -
-
This guy's been giving evaluations to the NFL for like 24 years. -
-
I'm just trying to give context on who the guy is, just in case there are in fact legs to this story. -

If there is one thing that the NFL cares about, it is preventing any type of connections like this. What other information could Pro Scout be giving this guy?Bpk likes this. -
I mean you really have to google Mike Giddings Jr. to get a sense of who he is, and it is highly unlikley that most people would even have heard of him.
He doesn't appear to do many interviews, Pro Scout doesn't have a public website that I can find, the guy has no wikipedia page, nothing.
In short, he's a serious professional consultant who gets his business through referrals. He's not Russ Lande (who I like) that will go on every radio show in the world during draft season. -
But those that are will tell you that they think Jeff Ireland has no chance of succeeding, so taking a roll of the dice is better than keeping him.oakelmpine likes this. -
Let's not be naive Stringer. Las Vegas has more inside info then the public and it has to come from the teams.Eop05 likes this. -
A Gidding meeting with Ross rumor? So sexy. I wonder how the NY Times resists putting this on the front page!

Ireland had never negotiated a contract or a trade prior to coming here. He learned that on the job, much like Giddings would have to, but it isn't rocket science. You have to be a good bluffer, know the real values, etc. -
-
Ross may like Ireland, but when tens of millions are on the line asking another opinion of someone respected in the league makes sense.
FWIW, I'm neutral/leaning positive on Ireland, if he is fired it would not surprise, if retained it would not surprise.
Felt we had to win either the SF game or the second NE game for Ireland to really be locked in. -

Other thing is, Mike Silver usually breaks stuff like this.

I assume you read my post, but again, I only brought up Fisher to point out the FACT that Fisher has used this guy's servcies before. I didn't suggest that the guy gave Fisher good advice or bad advice, or that Fisher took any of his recommendations at all. I simply pointed out that Fisher felt it was worthwhile to have Giddings in the meeting with Snead to asses the Rams roster.
And regardless of whether you think Fisher is a great coach or not, he certainly is a credible one, and his view on a personnell guy is at least worth hearingBoomer likes this. -
B. If he truly was getting inside information, he surely would not be posting it on Twitter. -
If you read it on the world wide web it has to be true!
Ross must be close to signing this guy, after all why else would they meet up.
Mod Edit: Not appropriate. -
