He played extremely well again today.

Glad to see us put up 5 TDs at home.

I don't think completion percentage is a particularly meaningful statistic when you throw as many silly 0-3 yard passes as we do. I'm a big fan of the QB, I just don't think that number is meaningful.

 

And there's been a significant jump after the first three games. Since then he's been at 70%. He's also had a 7.4 YPA since that point. His rating from the Raider game on has been 99.68. That would be good for 4th highest in the league amongst QBs who have attempted at least a 200 passes.

 

Per Omar:

Today alone, Tannehill lead a 4th qtr comeback and threw 4 TDs. He finished 35/47 for 396 yards and completed 74% of his passes at an 8.4 passing yard average. His passer rating was 118.8.

By comparison today:
- Tom Brady was 23/35 for 182 yards with 1 TD, 1 INT, a 5.2 passing yard average and a 76.1 PR.
- Drew Brees was 30/47 for 313 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs, and a 6.7 passing yard average and a 72.4 PR.
- Matt Ryan was 30/40 for 322 yards, 1 TD, an 8.1 passing yard average and a 106.5 PR.
- Aaron Rodgers was 31/40 for 318 yards, 1 TD, an 8.0 passing yard average, and a 108.1 PR.

He was also the #1 ranked Fantasy QB prior to the Cowboys blowout of the Colts.

 

Something Henne never came close to. People who fail to see Tannehill had a superior upgrade at QB over the recent years are crazy. Tannehill can be the guy. If Baltimore can win a super bowl with Flacco, I'm confident Tannehill can win one with miami. It's just if they can get the pieces they need together along with the proper coaching

 

So much this, if we see one more Hennehill joke......

No one is calling Tannehill elite yet, but the people who keep calling him a Henne clone probably never watched the Dolphins 2009-2012 or are incapable of looking up statistics. Henne had a better run game, offensive line and a legit #1 receiver to throw to as well to help him.

When it's all said and done, Ryan tannehill is going to be on a lot of peoples "top ten qbs" list this year. All this pissing and moaning about him from our fan base and we're actually seeing one of our best offensive seasons ever

 

Tannehill without question played his best game. That is what most of us have been wanting to see.

 

vast majority of those throws are less than 7 yards. i like tanny, but he is not close to a top 5 qb.

 

I used to get in arguments with some guys on another forum about Brady. They used to call him a product of system, not that good because he threw tons of short passes. My argument, if it's THAT easy to throw short passes and pile up stats, then EVERYBODY would do it. I mean, what QB wouldn't want to throw the safest throw possible, if it works out well for you? That being said, Tannehill has also showed the ability to throw intermediate and deep passes. Not sure that anyone is crowning Tannehill a top 5 QB at this point, but he certainly has statistics that have him playing at a level far above what many of the negative posters on here would have us all believe.

 

Most his throws yesterday were way past that point. Looked like he hit clay 3 times on deep routes, threw two tds on 14yd plays, hit Williams on a deep middle throw.

If he's got the time he hits them. It's that simple. Our only concern offensively this offseason is oline. I'd want a big back and big wr but oline trumps both IMO.

 

A 2 yard completion is certainly better than taking a sack or throwing a pick. But there's a lot of improving needed given that every time we drop back to pass, we are 25th in yards gained. Tannehill seems capable of making the improvements. The most helpful thing might be getting some good interior linemen who can give him more time to get comfortable looking downfield. I guess that or get some WRs who are more proficient at getting YAC.

 

This is silly. All QBs throw short, especially when under pressure, behind a bad line, or a longer pass play isn't there. Brady has made a career of it. Apparently, you fail to understand the significance of the 8.4 passing yard average in the game. That means some passes were shorter, some longer, but the average was OVER 8 passing yards. That is on par with the games best from yesterday. Tannehill's first 2 TDs were 14 yards and 16 yards. If you add in his drop back, each pass traveled apprx 20 yards in the air.

For the BS that is he only throws 3-7 yard dump offs:
1st qtr
3rd and 6, he hit Williams for a 20 yard pass

2nd qtr
2nd and 7, he hit Clay for 33 yards

3rd qtr
1st and 10, he hit Clay for 41 yards

4th qtr
1st and 10, he hit Gibson for 40 yards
1st and 10, he hit Clay for 22 yards

For people pointing at "Elite" or "Top 5" QBs and dogging him, you're forgetting that Aaron Rodgers, Peyton, Romo, etc... all took a lot longer than 3 or 4 seasons to arrive at that status. It's silly as Hell as point to Tannehill in his 3rd season and dog him for not being as good as guys who are playing in their 7th+ year in the league.

Just enjoy his growth and progress, and understand that he will still need a few more years, but that he is going to be here long term and that we'll have to build around both his strengths and weaknesses.

 

It's funny that no one ever criticizes Manning and Brady for dinking and dunking. Both have made a living off it the last few years. And don't get me started on Aaron Rodgers. The packers entire offense is predicated on dinking and dunking to set up 3-4 long ball throws a game. These guys have awesome play makers though who rack up YAC.

 

This guy sucks. I'm so over this team.

 

Agreed, but most people don't watch more than the ESpin Highlights of those one or two long plays from these other guys and think it was bombs away all game for all other QBs.

Though Rodgers' Air Yards per attempt is better, 4.5 to 3.8. I do think it'd help Tannehill to get more YAC-prone receivers. But Rodgers is freaking great no matter what he's doing.

 

That touchdown pass to Williams would go down in the stat line as a 'dip' or 'dunk', but that was a great pass.

People make to much of stat lines sometimes.

Rodgers has been starting since 2008 after sitting for 3 years. He's got 5 years of NFL starting experience over a guy like Tannehill. Be interesting to see how they compare by the time Tannehill has 5 years experience in the NFL.

 

That's the drum I've been beating for the last three years. I'm excited to see how far Tannehill develops as his experience grows.

Tanny hasn't been the problem this year or even last year. Our problem, this year particularly has been the D... The one improvement from Tanny this year has been more consistency... He's put together some good games, even in losses... Our D on the other hand...well, you know...

 

One stat I am really impressed with:

He will have started every game in his NFL career in his first three seasons next week. Given some of the very bad O-line play at particular times, this is very telling of his toughness. He takes them to the chin. And I have noticed that this year, he takes them to the chin and completes passes. This is a very good sign he is progressing in that department.

Statistically, there is a lot to like, but there is still some improvement, and he is consistently showing it in some areas. This is encouraging given I truly do not think he has reached his ceiling. Very encouraging.
