It could be a coincidence, but I wonder if the team's strict any media policies have anything to do with all of the writers leaving at the same time.

 

Meh. I barely read Mando anymore. He's been a "Dolphins' glass is always half-empty" guy for years and although he gives good insight, even his reports have opinions and subjective phrasing that are more fit for personal columns. God bless him with happy trails, though.

 

Personally, I don't read the Herald or Sentinel at all these days due to the pay-walls, click-bait titles and spammy ads everywhere. Newspapers have done a lousy job becoming modern news outlets and I won't miss them once they're gone. Reporting just isn't what it used to be- I'd take Travis over Armando any day of the week because our boy's an actual journalist with integrity.

 

Absolutely. Dolphins have some of the most opinionated writers in the league IMO. I remember sending a comment to Greg Cote several years ago telling him he was the least objective reporter that I've ever encountered after reading something he wrote. He was cool and emailed me back, explaining that his hit piece was a column, not a report and the purpose of personal columns was to offer opinions, not facts. Since then, I've noticed that a lot of writers put qualifying words in their reports like "Parker made a lazy attempt to come back for the pass" or "Howard forgot that **** was an all-pro and let him get behind him for a touchdown".

Mando was good for that sort of writing and I don't think too many other Dolphins beat writers were allowed to get away with it by their editors. I also remember when he popped up on an ESPN national radio broadcast sounding like he was tired of covering the Fins. I'd swear he sounded like he was tipsy, but when the host asked him for the team's status, you'd think he was burdened with covering the '76 Bucs.

 

We just don't have the most opinionated, but the biggest **** stirrers in the league.
