I guess this is kinda what it was like for the Broncos/Chargers game last year. Interesting story:
The passionate Arkansas Razorbacks faithful and vocal Gator haters won't let up about his call. They've dialed his home and office phones. They've blitzed him with inflammatory e-mail messages. They've accused him of being a crooked ref, a gambler, some even suggesting the bigwigs back at the Southeastern Conference office were behind the controversial fourth-quarter calls -- particularly his fourth-quarter call -- that factored into Arkansas' 23-20 loss at No. 1 Florida on Saturday.
"I understand people are passionate about their teams," Curles says softly. "Like I said, we sign up for this. I admit I made a mistake in this ballgame. I deserve a little bit of people getting on me. I am getting on myself.

College Football is one small, tiny step ahead of pro Wrestling, seriously.
"Oh garsh, I feel awful, we even have an extra weekend off before my crew can call another game..shucks...the pain..."
it's no real surprise, they handed the Gators the game, they know, anyone who watched the game knows it, meanwhile the BCS could care less.
At least they could fire them for incompetence.NaboCane likes this. -
SEC Suspends Arkansas/Florida Officiating Crew

So the SEC is basically admitting their crew handed the game to Florida. I'm surprised.Fin-Omenal, NaboCane and alen1 like this. -
The PI call was iffy but I guess it could be called but the second call was by far the worst call ive seen this season.

I know a couple of years ago a crew from the Pac-10 was actually fired as there was little doubt they were indeed loading games.
Very unfortunate for certain. -
It is the same reason as I tried to explain in another post ...IMHO.....as to why there are polls before the teams ever play a game or before we even have a chance to see how good a team is...the biggest revenue generators are going to be at the top...because it is easier if they lose to get them back to the top to get them in a BCS bowl...look at USC........lose to Washington that did not win a game and drop what 6 spots.............look at Florida...they beat Bob, Atlantis, a piss poor UT team by what 14, pitiful Kentucky, and bored America to death by beating an average LSU team, and lost to Arkansas,,,,and they are #2 in the country.
Gator fans will say it because I am anti Gator...so I go to "my" team...The U....everything looked great in week 1 when they beat FSU, even nicer after OU game....now exactly how good are those teams after seeing those two teams for 6 weeks (great names, great tradition....not so good at football right now) .... not exactly as impressive as it was when the "polls" were out after....NOT ONE DAMN GAME PLAYED......so before all Gators cry foul, the same theory works against "my Canes" also............how the heck are the Canes in the top 10.....top 20 I can buy....but jeez FSU sucks, they lost to VT and OU just keeps getting hammered................
And the bottom line....those officials and those calls will be long forgotten when the SEC championship is played...the officials may even find a nice Christmas Bonus from a mystery shopper. And no one will care about what happened............and life will go on........Fin-Omenal likes this. -
I'm not "anti Gator" in fact imho I think they have been "solved", what bothers me is this stuff is blatant, happens in big games, and the SEC/NCAA does nothing, the cynic will say because the Gators are a bigger draw, but they will get paid either way.
As for this Ref and his crew, they are sort of what is wrong with college football, save me the "elmer" oh gosh bit, they know they screwed the pooch, same as happened during the Colorado Five Down game, the guy admits it, and yet business as usual...he will offer an apology to the head of officiating of the SEC...I bet that stings...it's the human element, u understand...right?

.....I feel the exact same way. UT getting hosed last year after beating OU, the whole slotting/ranking set up, the UM hose job, but this one was just so blatant coupled with the no calls that it reinforces the whole lube job we get for money.....I never really thought that CFB would reach the point where it is so blatantly about dollars and so slanted but it has. I am sure some die hards will continue to live and die by "their" teams every first down...I just do not care as much anymore...and there is a growing number of us......and as for the Elmer Fudd...so sowwwyyy woutine.........I hate it when a referee/official insults what little intelligence I have garnered through experience.
Of course this is JMHO, so as not to be labeled as egomaniac. -
I wonder what he's getting under the table for falling on his sword to spare the SEC and CFB in general the possible consequences of an investigation into the matter.
I hate to think that way, but I've seen this very thing in the corporate world WAY too much to think it's all as innocent as they want to pass it off as being now.
The more I hear about it, the more I want to throw up. -
The Refs did not hand Florida the game. Fact of the matter is that Arkansas had many chances to win this game and they didn't. Most ppl point out to a 10 yard PF and it was only actually 9 net yards. Ref made bad calls, But it did not decide the game like I have seen in other games

The refs helped Florida again last night against Mississippi State. Florida picked off a pass and ran it back for a touchdown. The player was showboating however, which should have been flagged by the way, and the ball clearly came out of his hand before he crossed the goalline. The refs called touchdown and even reviewed the play. They still got it wrong. The SEC is going to make damn sure that Florida and Alabama stay unbeaten. It's a shame too, because Mississippi State was going toe to toe with Florida for the most part and it was off nothing more than grit and emotion. Florida has third and fourth string players that would start at Mississippi State, and despite that talent disparity, Mississippi State put it all on the field only to have all that momentum crushed because the refs had to ensure that Florida had a comfortable lead in the game.

I thought the refs for the WV UConn game yesterday were horrid. The calls were so damn one sided it made me sick. But I guess that's what happens when you play at WV.
I'm still sick. You would have liked to think that Connecticut would have gotten the benefit of the doubt, or maybe a break on one or two calls. But of course not. The fix was in. -
-
Also, as of right now, I don't want to see Tebow on anyone's Heisman list. -
I don't think it was a touchdown either, But I understand why they made the call. They did not have the evidence to overturn. It could have been a penalty too. I really don't think Miss. State was ever really in the game. They caught some breaks with INT's for TD's however Florida was moving the ball at will for the most part. However none of that matters if you can't put it in the endzone. The Gator defense showed up huge last night -
The call itself may not have effected the overall outcome of the game, as Florida would have probably won the game without the call. I do feel that the call did ensure that Florida would win the game though. Florida has enough to beat Mississippi State by themselves. They do not need the refs to ensure that the victory happens. -

Were these guys working the LSU/Bama game? How could they get Patrick Peterson's interception wrong 2 times!?
-
What is worse is, the SEC is now finning Coaches who mention how poor the refereeing is, Urban Meyer was whacked for 30k (how ironic, the largest beneficiary of poor officiating).
The SEC is going to handle the ref's "in house".
Meaning "sweep it under the rug and act as if the whole thing never happened"
It's not like players are eye gouging opponents ECW style...:lol:azfinfanmang likes this. -
Only an Ostrich would say that there is nothing biased or crooked going on at this point. They are quickly ruining the Integrity and fun of College Football.
Wonder if I can get my money back on my NCAA football game...... :pity: -
NCAA 11 is going to come with the new "Ref favoritism" feature.
Honestly I'm not sure. On one hand mistakes happen, and when the big teams play those mistakes are more likely to be seen and talked about. On the other hand they do seem to ALWAYS favor the big dogg.
