Inside LB coach? What about the whole LB coach?
I hope we don't have 100 coaches.

I like this part. Maybe he has a silver tongue and can help bring great free agents.

 

He was down graded a position, not alot of NFL experience but the Giants line backer crew while he was in charge were definitely a force to reckon with.

Now if we see that Nolan has signed things will be looking up.

 

I thought they had okay LB's not great ones.......their D-Line was the force to be reckoned with...

 

We had the same setup with Reid and Edwards where one handled ILB and one handled OLB. I assume whoever we bring in as DC will be allowed to pick his own guy to tag along as OLB coach.

 

Yeah, but I would have figured as much with the ILB coach too. I wonder if they were waiting on "approval" from Nolan (should he be the next DC) to go ahead and make it official.

 

Thinking about the Giants the past few years, they really never had any really talented LBs on thier team. But thier scheme worked great.
I just wonder if it is due to an outstanding front 4.

 

They had Strahan, Tuck, and Umenyiora. But they also had Torbor and Wilson, and we know how good they are. So my bet would be the front 4.

 

That's my thought, too. I'm expecting an announcement about our new DC soon.

well i hope that guy was fired. or kept on cause maybe there needs to be 3 or 4 ILBs coaches. one for each player.

unless we get Rolando McClain, in which all we'll have to do is tell crowder and ayodele and torbor to watch him and be more like him.

The level of talent has no bearing on the number of linebacker coaches we have. Many teams split it up. It's simply preference of the guy(s) in charge.

Some teams have nickel defense coaches. We don't, but we used to.

Bro they break it down so they can concentrate on the inside, and another coach can concentrate on the outside. I am fine with this. The more teachers you have, the better the students will perform.:wink2:

My thing with our inside linebackers is you cant teach awareness which is a really big part of the problem

Sheridan can teach technique and discipline but if these guys lack a nose for the football which seems to be the case he has a big job ahead of him.

I like that we are bringing in good minds on the d side of the ball but it might be too late to teach what we have in there

 

I am wondering though, are the ILB/OLB coaches there for technique, reads, etc., only? Or do they have a hand in scheme? My reason for asking is because of the potential of lack of communication having two different coaches could cause to the unit. The unit has to work together (knowing, basically, what the other guys are going to do) in order to replicate the principles behind the scheme. At least, that's how I think it works?

Hell, what do I know? You guys have any thoughts on this?

 

My thought process is bro that the two coaches can spend more time with the starters, and backups. If you had just one coach his time would be very limited for developing backups. I think it is very important for the coaches to work together along with the DC as to what he expects from his linebackers.:wink2:

Not only do you need it with the players on the field but you also need that with the coaching staff imo

either way bill sheridan got his you know what put in the dirt as the giants DC this past season. he has been a bit humbled

Yeah, makes more sense now. I guess the coaches would just relay what the coordinator wants. But with all delegating, there's always some misinformation. I know this from being enlisted in the Navy!!! :lol:

I hear you bro, but I think what we are building here is very solid coaches that will teach our players to be even better then they think they can be. I think we can never have enough motivators on a team.:hi5:

 

steve spagnuolo was the former giants DC took the HC job with the rams
sheridan became the giants dc and took his proverbial lumps

now he is back to coaching lb's which seems to be his thing

nolan is coming in and it his defense
not sure what else needs to said
