So I'm thinking of getting a tablet, but I'm not really sure if I should get one now or wait. I've heard rumors that the ipad 3 announcement should be coming within a week or two. Not to mention I don't know if Samsung will be coming out with a new galaxy tab soon. Thoughts?

Yes.

If you absolutely want one now- go for it. If you can wait, then you should wait. There is always better technology being released.

I recently got an ASUS tf-101. I love it. Nothing better for studying.

I have this: http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxytab/10.1/spec.html
Lighter then iPad, Android OS 3.1, bigger screen, 4G, Samsung uses Super Amoled screens so everything is a lot more vivid.
Since I already had a mac and iPhone I felt getting an iPad would be repetitive. Im happy with it.
It all depends what you want to use it for though. I just wanted a toy I could mess around with without voiding warranties and stuff. Android OS is much more customizable... -
You're sadly 4 (or more) months late as you could've got an HP Touchpad for like $150.

sidenote: Why people still choose to overpay for iPads (and most other Apple products) boggles the mind.

The e-reader/tablet debate is different. I dont believe in going halfway. If i want the nook or kindle app I can download it on android. -
I'm still getting occasional FW updates too. -

One thing I don't understand, and maybe there's something I'm missing so it's an honest question:
Why would anyone who had both a laptop and a smartphone be interested in a tablet? My thought has always been it's an awful lot of money to pay for something that really doesn't do anything differently or better than my laptop or my smartphone (besides bigger screen). But when I'm on the go a bigger screen isn't that important to me. Not to pay 300 - 700 bucks for anyway. -
Just to be clear...
Tablet = ipad for example? -
You don't realize what uses you're missing out on until you get it. For me it's perfect for lounging while the tv is on, either playing games or surfing the web on the couch. Yes I could do that with a laptop, but that's a bit more cumbersome than a tablet. Is it a necessity? Hell no. But I sure as heck get enough use out of it to justify the expense. I also use it for reading.
It's also great for travel; easier to lug a tablet around than a laptop. Tablets can also have direct cell coverage, so you don't always need a wifi connection like you would with a laptop. I have countless books on the ipad so I don't have to lug multiple books around with me when I travel. -

I use my PC a good bit at home, but for quick browsing and such I use my tablet. I do typically only bring my laptop with me when I go somewhere for work (which is most weeks), but again that's mostly out of necessity (my Blackberry serves me well for browsing and such when I can't use my laptop).
With all that said, for how much I use my tablet and what I use it for I can't envision ever paying more than $300 for one. -
That makes sense. I can see a work related need for using tablets, and I guess it's easier if you can get it paid for by company, or write off the cost for business.

If you have to have 4G then wait. If you don't need 4G and can get by on 3G or wifi then buy now. Waiting for Apple over-hyped products FTL.
ASUS and Samsung tablets are great, just go get one if you want to buy now.
