Its an interesting idea but I think Philbin would not want him back.Players who contradict his team goals and objectives soon find their way out.

 

I would, but I don't think he would. Pretty big come-down to say you're the best LB in the league to accepting back-up salary from a team that cut you.

This idea crossed my mind as well, but after thinking about it I just don't think it is a good fit. It is about having the RIGHT 53 not about the best 53. Dansby would be a HUGE upgrade over Misi, but I think he would be a terrible locker room influence. No way he could come back and be happy about the situation.

Moving forward we need the right attitude in the locker room. Everyone must be on board, so if Philbin doesn't want Dansby then neither do I. I do think Dansby can help the right team. With the ravens being short of LBs I am surprised he hasn't signed with them. He would be an upgrade for sure. Good player, with maybe a less than great attitude.

IMO, and this is only my opinion, I think he offered him a smaller contract just like he did Long. I really think he didn't care if either left, maybe even encouraged it, but maybe I am reading into things. I just don't think Long fit because of injuries and having a down couple of years, and Dansby couldn't keep his mouth shut. But then again I could be totally wrong. That is just the feeling I get.

I would, to me Dansby was a pretty good player who was paid like he was a great player.

Dpate' is correct, and keep in mind Misi is very replaceable imo, you could slide Ellerbe over to his role and use Misi all over the field, that would be a good Lb corps, and deep.

 

I cant see him coming back to be a reserve. He was allegedly a problem in the locker room to begin with.

 

I was more upset at losing Burnett than Dansby. At least Burnett made an impact play from time to time...

 

Through 15 games last year, they had combined for zero sacks, zero ints, zero forced fumbles, and zero fumble recoveries. I harped on that all year, and I have to think that it played a part in them being replaced.

 

He was a bigger problem on the airwaves.

 

Keep that in context, how many times did he blitz? And the last 2 yrs we have had an amazingly bad run of not recovering fumbles.

Dansby however, mostly stopped the trend of Te's just torching our MLB/ILB, and he's a good tackler.

Do agree about the lack of impact plays, this is why I thought he was overpaid, but he was a good MLB, not great, but good.

Me too, but I get it. Burnett is the consummate pro football player and a great interview. Pretty funny the Raiders replaced Wheeler with Burnett within 48 hours. Wheeler is younger and rated one slot below Burnett @ PFF at the OLB position.

 

From what I heard on Sports Talk Radio today, it sounded like Lewis' comments were that they'd sign one or the other between Dansby and Harrison BEFORE the Draft. They still might be in the market for Dansby. Not sure exactly where he'd fit given that they're moving Vontaze Burfict to MIKE and Maualuga (still not sure why the re-signed him) to SAM. But I wouldn't rule out Dansby signing with Cincinnati just yet.

 

I'd expect if KD was resigned that he'd start and Misi would be the backup. Misi could play DE opposite Wake in the nickel package. As a rookie, Misi was 8th among 3-4 OLBs in pass rush productivity from the right side. 211 pass rush snaps and 27 pressures.

My only issue with Dansby was his pay check not matching his production. The guy is a damn good player, he is just not mega payday good.

 

In pass rush productivity though, Wheeler was much higher. In 126 pass rush snaps he had 30 combined pressures. He rushed 22% of the time on pass plays. Among 4-3 OLB he was the 2nd best for PRP for those who played 50% of his team snaps. His PRP was higher than Von Miller. He just didn't get as many pass rush attempts. That could change this year.
Burnett had 102 pass rush snaps and had 15 combined pressures. He rushed on 16% of pass plays. He ranked 12th in PRP among 4-3 OLBs.

 

Absolutely at a reduced price like the team offered already. And he wouldn't be a reserve. He'd start at MLB. Misi would be a reserve. He'd be our best man coverage LB and that's something we lack. We won't play much man but there's always some. And since we did want him back at a reduced price it seems those Philbin doesn't want him posts were already disproved. And those comments he made were overblown in terms of importance by the fans since they still wanted him back.

 

Dansby should definitely be a consideration at lower salary after he mends fences with Philbin...

It's hard to go from a legend in your own mind to reality in a single offseason. I agree that he's probably looking for legend money.

 

I'D do it in a heartbeat. A guy like that sure makes covering TE a lot easier.

I want to interject on this.

I don't think Philbin has the slightest problem with a leadership council. I think the problem was that it was created because of a sole event that was meant to question the coach on his first big personnel decision that was more about setting the tone of what he expected. If it hadn't been created because they wanted to argue against a move he made, this might be a different story. It made them come across as locker room lawyers, and he's said he has no need for those types.

 

On his terms, sure, I don't see him having a problem, but it still doesn't take away the funny of the departed trio not getting the man.
