Vick wasn't as good as some backups when he was a starter.

 

Not so sure Chris Simms and Alex Smith are backups. The latest I heard was that Smith was looking to be the number 1 QB in San Francisco and that because of Orton's poor play last week that his lock on the starting job is very much in doubt. Also you can throw Kellen Clemens and Vince Young in there as well.

 

I saw Henne dominate against Arizona in Week 2 last year. He could've scored the touchdown himself, but they decided to call a running play for the TD. And NO, it wasnt a prevent defense.

Its one drive, but that's all we've seen, and it was very impressive. The composure he handled himself with, especially in the middle of a game, in Week 2 of your rookie year

 

Championship games, perennial playoffs, largely on his legs and half arm? He's not the prototypical QB but the results spoke for themselves. Yeah he only threw 54% throughout his career, but save for his first year he never threw more INT than TDs. His average ypc is over 7 and that's with a significant amount of carries. I mean come on, we're the team that introduced the wildcat last year, prototypical offense is not our calling card.

 

Hard to argue... while I wouldn't want 80% of those QBs above Henne as my backup QB over Henne... I can understand why they are rated above him right now.

That may be true. But remember 2005.

 

He also never had back-to-back winning seasons. If that doesn't scream inconsistent I don't know what does. And the 54% goes to show you he may just have had superior talent around him, not to mention the Falcons were a solid defensive team for the most part while he was there.

But the reality is, no one has ever seen him deliver in the NFL, so we're just projecting him as an upper tier backup. Wow...Vick surely does make some writers **** themselves...two years out of the game, not being able to even workout in the football fashion and he's rated the #1 backup ?? How can they even tell that ?? It's not like he was an elite QB when he was in his prime. Sure, he could run like there was no tomorrow and because of that, carved a fairly successful niche at the QB spot in Hotlanta, but this is two years later and he's been out of the game...I don't see that one at all...

And Rosenfels must have really improved since he was here...he was just a step or so ahead of Big Ray Lucas in the annals of QB play here...

Well no, lol. For one, Penny's accuracy is just a tad higher than Vick's. Also, Penny played for the Jets, an automatic free-pass when discussing Team Wins and Losses.

It's a difference of completing 22% more of your passes. That's pretty big.

 

Because his throws were usually uncatchable for anyone one the field. He never threw with any touch. He would try a gun a 5 yard pass the same as a 20 yarder. Hell.....they blame his receivers for the passing percentage but look what Matt Ryan did with them.

I already said his completion percentage is not that great, but he is a weapon in other ways.

 

That logic only works if the TD rate is not higher. His supposed INTs are not catchable his TDs are? Faulty reasoning there.

You really can't compare Vick's completion % to Pennington's. Pennington usually has 3 reads - the third being a dumpoff to a safety valve.

Vick had three reads as well - WR1, TE, and his third read would be just to take off on his feet.

Now it isn't easy to quantify, but Vick never had dumpoff passes to help his completion percentage.

Not saying that Vick is as accurate as Pennington, but Vick was a lot more accurate than perceived.

 

The list appears to be pretty spot-on to me. Not sure who any of you guys would put ahead of Vick. The guy is a former pro-bowler, and took his team to the NFC title game. His resume is a lot better than anyone else on that list.

 

Have to agree with Stringer Bell on this one, at least re: Vick. The rest of the list is well very speculative. None of this stuff means anything, that's why they play the games.

 

Kitna should be higher, def. higher than Culpepper.
