I would assume the opposite. It would explain never being seen dating a girl. I'd imagine the pressure to be straight at one of the bastions of Catholicism would be huge. And that's on top of playing sport where the pressure is huge to begin with. It wouldn't start as a publicity thing. It would start just to make your day to day life easier. But as his star got bigger, more and more of his life would fall under the microscope. Eventually he would have to kill her off. Obviously, we don't know if he's gay, but it would be one thing that could take him from being thought of as a scumbag for making her up (or at least going along with it) to a more sympathetic character.

Well if he is trying to protect his identity so his family doesn't find out I can see why he would go to such lengths. Yeah the more I read the less I like the guy. Because if he isn't gay and created this to garner publicity for himself and the program is sick.

I've always wondered this. The first person to do this, especially a young famous person.....will make A **** TON of money from GLAAD orginizations, magazines, bravo networks etc. They'd be the gay face of the nfl, the first one, and they'd be a pioneer.

The gay thing makes no sense at all...especially since ND students have written how its known he was dating other chicks on campus. Even if you are gay itd take way less work than this to convince your family who lives 3k miles away...and if you are making up a fake gf to hide from your family would you make up a fake gf who lives so far away? How would that convince them of anything?
