Something to whet your appetite as Training Camp approaches
The last 2 minutes of the epic Dolphins win over the Jets on MNF last season. A star was born that night in Chad Henne. One of the best games I've seen.
Check out Rex Ryan's face at 2:30 and 5:11 into the video for serious lulz.

Loved Rex's face! Henne Played so well that night. He made throws that I haven't seen a Dolphin QB make since Marino. I couldn't stop raving about Henne's performance. He looked cool, confident, and in charge.

Anyone who wants to cut Cammy needs to rewatch this video. Thanks for posting it, great ending and Henne giving us a glimpse of the future at QB for us for a long time.

My favorite part of this video is at the 2:42 mark. They show a slow mo replay from a really cool panning angle of the throw by Henne to Camarillo. It looks so freaking cool like a bullet being shot out of a rifle with a Matrix-esque style of camera work. The trajectory and pure precision of that throw is somewhat incredible. I could watch this game over and over again.
Im so freaking pumped up for the season right now. I cant wait!dolfan7171, fins1 and like this. -

It was that game that I first noticed Henne took this game seriously and was already mentally an NFL Starting QB. He did what he needed to do. Each good play he used to build on. Each bad play he acted like it hadn't happened. There wasn't any point at which he looked hesitant or scared. The guy got to the line of scrimmage looking straight up business as usual. That was a big game too. This kid is amazing. He has the physical tools, you can see it all through the video. He has the mental and emotional fortitude. If the game slows down anymore for him and his decision making improves, he'll be like Fry on coffee.

I wonder what its like trying to catch one of those bullets from Henne? In the history of the NFL who threw or throws now with the most velocity? Would Henne be on that list?

The big thing is I could tell Henne was happy we were going to win the game but I got the impression he was pissed it wasn't on his arm. I think he feels like he's got something to prove in being the next QB and I believe he believes he's it. The way he was walking after the last TD just has me believing that he'd rather it have been his arm. Not for the attention that he would get necessarily, but because the team would no doubt have "a QB who can win games with his arm in the 4th quarter". I know he has done it but that would have been on a MNF staged game and it would have been huge press for the Phins. Now instead it's just the Wildcat.
I think the team as a whole is looking to get rid of that image. We have a great run game and have added BM to our offense. Here are the "IF's" for me:
IF BM can keep his head on
IF Hartline continues to step up
IF Bess continues to develop
IF Fasano shows up circa 2008 year
Our offense will click like you wouldn't believe in addition to RB/RW in the backfield.
Additionally http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Leonhard whiffed on the RW wildcat fake at the end there. Watch it around 4:55 and that white dude coming in on the top of the line to blitz is Leonhard. Watch it around 6:02 and you can see a big ol' #36 goin
:omg:

I'd rather have something whet my appetite before training camp, but to each his own.

In the NFL, a balanced offense with a QB making the right decisions is practically unstoppable. That drive was against the best defense in the league. IMO that title, "best defense in the league", was deserved last year. But they were defenseless against a QB making the right choices and good throws and a running game that could be overpowering. The one weakness I saw in that offense was that there was very little threat of a big play. Cam, while clutch, is not likely to break away or make the defense back up or double him. In fact, nobody in that passing game deserved that respect. That forces your offense to execute near perfectly every time and that's impossible. You saw that when Fasano got held up or when Polite missed his block. In many games those might end up being drive killers. I'm excited b/c this year we do have the guy in the passing game (Marshall) that can deliver a big play, force a double team, or make the defense back up. I can see that being a tipping point for this offense. It could give the running game another yard of space. That can be huge b/c it lets blocks develop naturally or gives runners time to set up blocks. That yard can lead to an increase in the number of big plays our running game produces or at a minimum lead to shorter third downs and more (easier) conversions. If the QB knows, or at least reasonably expects that Marshall will be doubled, then the defense has fewer disguise options. It's difficult to over-emphasize how much easier that makes it for Henne to be the QB that makes the right decision most of the time. That should help a guy like Cam, who is proficient at beating one on one coverage and making that clutch catch, be all the more effective. The same for Bess, who is not as consistent but is better at getting open and making the tough catch that bails out the QB when he makes a poor throw. If Hartline continues to develop and earns more snaps as the #2, all the better b/c that means the position will be upgraded. And if Marshall isn't doubled, then he will almost always have the advantage against any single DB (and thusly be the right decision). Last year we were an average offense, very good running game, below average passing game and 15th overall in points scored. Henne's development alone could move this offense into the good category. I see Marshall as potentially being that tipping point that takes our offense from good to great.

Ya'll remember how the Patriots used to execute, especially in the first superbowl win?...That's what made them so good...
The space and dynamic that Marshall provides to an offense that has already learned how to execute without him could be explosive..we have a good chance of being the #1 rushing team in the NFL..dolfan7171 likes this. -

AG, he takes it in for the TD with ease, the hesitation, the hands, the power, the ball in his hands...the talent of the 2nd overall pick in the draft is all on full display...why would you ever not want to see that?..
We can run in both formations.
I did notice in an interview with ronnie the other day that he kind of was dismissing the wildcat....Imo, that would be a FO mistake. -
The Pats were great at execution, primarily b/c Brady consistently made great decisions. I know some Dolphin fans want to denigrate him, but his decision making has always been awesome. (Of course we'll never know how much of that was the result of BB's cheating, but that's another, old discussion). If Henne can make the jump to that level of consistent decision making, this offense has almost unlimited potential. We got a taste of that in that drive. A healthy OL and the addition of Marshall makes it much more likely that Henne can replicate that level of execution on a more consistent basis.dolfan7171 likes this.
