Really funny part is... I've got about 20 games that cost $.99 - $2.99 that i would MUCH rather play than the crap they showed in that commercial.

The controls are horrible on the iPhone.
-
i'll put the controls of a modern iPhone shooter to the pepsi challenge against ANY PSP shooter.
-
Am I playing the wrong games? -
I dunno... What are you playing. When i first went iphone (less than a year ago), I thought shooters, RPGs, and anything requiring solid controls was ridiculous. I only played on the go mini games and turn based strategy games.
Now my realization that the iPhone can be a real gaming platform came with two things. One, of course there's a learning curve. It DOES take time to get used to button-less controls. But it's not that bad. Also, as iPhones have gotten more powerful and precise the controls are much sharper. the 3Gs was good. iPhone4 is freaking fantastic. Archetype, NOVA, and Heroes of Sparta were playable on 3Gs. On 4, they're legitimate full on playable games. And these games are usually the sub $3 range. Toss in some truly killer old school RPGs (Chaos Rings by Square-Enix $10) and it really is a game system.

Mind you, most of these reviews were done prior to the iPhone4. The App cpmmunity has been AMAZING at adapting and making iPhone4 enhanced (in some cases full 4 versions) of games. I played all of these (except archetype) on the 3Gs and now the 4 and the difference is real.
I was just telling my friend yesterday that i wish he had an iPhone because there are some real gems (at amazing prices) on the console. If we start digging into all the smaller free and $1 games, I could put together a hefty list of one of the strongest game lineups ever. IMO of course. -

I'd just like to point out that the iPhone's best game is Phoenix Wright, which doesn't need much in the way of simulated analog controls. So you guys complaining about the controls are missing out.

I'd ask Mor if he loves his Iphone so much he should just **** it, but we all know the answer to that.
-
I've got like $16 to spend on games for my iPhone. I'm really looking for an old school-style RPG to waste time with. I was just gonna go with FF1 but Chaos Rings looks awesome too.
Any suggestions? -

What's the difference between JRPGs and a normal one? The artwork I assume. -
There's also a big difference in presentation style, nature of the world and the story, graphics, and then there might be some cultural things from JRPGs that don't carry over to English very well. For example, a lot of people get annoyed with the vocalized sounds of expression in FF13. What would have been written as a "........" or "!" in the script of a PS1 JRPG has, with the introduction of voice acting, turned into a sort of muted gasp or sigh. I think Mor got pissed with this when playing FF13, but I don't see a problem with it. It's not like we English speakers do anything different: "tsk, tsk, tsk" anyone?
Games like Mass Effect sort of strike a balance between the JRPG and PCRPG; you can customize your character and you have a lot of leeway, but there's still a story and still an endgame objective to work towards.
Also, not a JRPG, but do yourself a favor and buy Phoenix Wright for the iPhone.Frumundah Finnatic and Mainge like this. -
Interesting... They're releasing that game NOVA for PSP soon.... So maybe our PSP vs iPhone deathmatch can be a reality (not likely)... Maybe

Surprising. Wonder if developers will use the iPhone as a gateway to the PSP and vice-versa. That would be a boost for both platforms.
Then again, I doubt games like Ys Seven, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, or GoW: Chains of Olympus would be as good on the iPhone. Graphically, yes. Control-wise, nah. -
MGS and GoW i dunno, but I dont see why Y's Seven couldnt be on the iphone. It's just an RPG right?
