Here's a video they just posted about the history of the SuperBowl in Miami. Too short for my taste. The best part was the ending where they showed different CG renderings of the completed stadium. That place will be unique and add gravitas to the stadium genre.

 

It's also kinda trippy when you think that SB LIV has a club LIV in the stadium...

 

I think its great that the game is going to be in Miami again. However, I think that its going to be a while after that before its back. With new stadiums in warm weather places like LA and Atlanta, along with fairly new ones in Tampa, Dallas, Houtson and Arizona, all of those are going to be in the regular rotation, along with New Orleans. If San Diego gets a new place, then they're a permenant fixture as well. And then you have the domed stadiums in northern climates who want the game, and now the possibility of cold weather open air games too. I think its unlikely we get more than one a decade.

 

Yeah, that's cool...yet it doesn't effect me and it has nothing to do with the Dolphins really. I'm sure Ross wet himself though.

 

The NFL will give Miami SBs, because the city is essentially paying ala carte.

Well, you can't say Ross didn't earn this SB bid, he certainly jumped through enough NFL corporate hoops to get it.

Please though, Mr Ross, no more 7 home games, I don't want to see us playing home games in London, or Beijing, or Sydney, or Cairo, or Managua.

No problem playing away games abroad, not home games though, especially vs a division rival.

Love to see a game in Scotland, Edinburgh I guess, they have football weather all year long up there :yes:

 

Playing in Sydney might be like a home game for us if it's a game in December or January. Remember, that's in the Southern hemisphere and it can get really hot down there at precisely that time!

The NFL OWED Miami this Super Bowl and others.
After the ridiculous demands they put on the Dolphins to renovate the stadium and add roofing for fan cover while other facilities with similar issues were still being considered (See Tampa) the NFL again owed it to the organization for conforming.

The whole thing was ridiculous but it's done and we'll have a better stadium because of it.

 

I expected this after the stadium upgrades. Happy to see it happen.

 

To be fair, he has a deal in which he gets some money back for every marquee event he can attract to the stadium. That's what business is about though; risking capital for the potential of increased returns. The big issue with business in 2016 is the diffusion of risk onto taxpayers and the consolidation of returns to owners. Nothing wrong with government backing private efforts but there has to be some risk to the private party and some return to the public.

 

At least have a preseason game in The Bahamas. Our largest stadium only seats 15,000 but for a preseason game that should be sufficient.

 

The NFL is all about money, so that's the problem there, 15,000 doesn't even cover the plane ride unfortunately.

 

I can't find preseason attendance figures but do you think we bring in greater than 15,000? The game we usually play against TB in the preseason could be used to fill the stadium since both fan bases are close. We've had NCAA bowl games (2) in the stadium, one of which I went to, and I don't think the NCAA is any less about money than the NFL.

That was in 2007 compared to 2006. Given there are 4 preseason games (generally), you're looking at an average of 20k+ per game per team to almost 40k.

 

I don't think you can confidently estimate using figures from a decade ago. Might be more now, but we can't really say.

 

Yeah, it's hard to find those numbers. That link for 2006 and 2007 was the only one I could find that showed preseason attendance league-wide. Even if you check game-by-game it's hard to find.

49,675 in the 2015 Bucs game, and 43,340 against the Rams in 2014. Either way, those are just paid totals, not number of fans that actually attended. But if it's in the 40k+ range in recent years, then like Finster said maybe the Bahamas might not work out financially speaking.

 

i don't know what it is about preseason attendance, it seems as though it's guarded for some strange reason, but just watching the games, the stadium is always half full, sometimes more, so thats upwards of 30k regularly.

Also, what would be the end game for the NFL? There is no market there as of yet with such a small stadium and population, and it would probably cost money for the NFL to have a game there.

They had a preseason game in Mexico years ago, but that was in a 100k stadium, and preseason games are part of the season ticket package, as well as other packages, so it is really hard to do something like that.

 

My guess as to why it's so hard to get the figures is the owners don't want to show everyone how much they're making. Let's keep in mind preseason exists because it enriches the owners. They don't have to pay the players "salaries" to have the games (just training camp rates, etc..), and as you point out preseason tickets are part of a "package".

Oh, and that Mexico game? Highest ever attendance for an NFL game, preseason or regular season or playoffs, was a preseason game in Mexico in 1994 when 112k+ watched it. Highest regular season game ever was 105k+ for the first game in the Cowboys stadium.
