On how frustrating it in having a play of at least negative 9 yards attached to the first four of his possessions in the first half yesterday:
"It's frustrating, I'm glad you said that. At least it tells me somebody's watching the game…but to be honest with you, that really put us behind the chains and took us a little bit out of a game plan in that unfortunately some of those plays were run plays (you know) in other words--we had a reverse that we had called which if executed..if the handoff was executed properly I think the thing is going to look like it did against Cincinnati. (I mean) we had Julius Peppers knocked down, he's got inside of Ronnie (Brown)…Ronnie (Brown) does a good job and we have the edge and that ends up being a big minus play. (You know) we run a boss play out there on a first down play which we get a holding penalty on (you know). Now you're in a 20 situation, so we had about three of those situations where (you know) early on those were the negative plays (I mean) the bottom line is in the first eleven plays we ran the ball 5 times and we had minus 8 yards. So, that's not very good and (you know) we got to do a better job of that. Everybody wants to know why you didn't run the football…but, we had 23 plays in the first half of the football game yesterday--and the last four of those 23 plays we were in a two-minute drive (you know) just there at the end where we got the ball back with about a minute and forty seconds left…so those were four passes. But, I think part of it is the minus plays within the run game and the minus plays that put us behind the chains. (You know) we had a couple of penalties yesterday after plays made that put us behind, so. You can't overcome that particularly with a young quarterback…I think it's really hard to overcome the minuses."

and there you have it. we start out with 5 runs out of the 11 first plays and completely shoot ourselves in the foot and this forces us out of running the ball the rest of the game

6-0 at halftime and you can't run the ball in the 3rd quarter? It's total bull****tonnyrat, The_Dark_Knight, dolfan7171 and 6 others like this. -
Didn't the Bears get the ball after halftime and put another FG on the board?

"Tony, are you willing to concede that you are totally responsible for the state we now find this team in? That you set this in motion when you got nervous about your job and wavered on continuing to develop Chad Henne? Would you now agree with everyone on the planet except maybe 2 guys on the Phins.com, that you totally exposed yourself and this regime as nothing but a lot of hype?"

We should have run the wildcat more early; and we could still have run the ball down 9-0. The other issue is just a lack of imaginativeness in the play calling. It's base this and base that and not a lot of wrinkles that could have been there early on. lack of rollouts, no effective screens (why is Miami, regardless of coordinator, perennially so bad at running screens?), etc. that would have potentially made a difference.
I still think Henning has a great deal of blame on his shoulders in spite of the clear handicaps we had - that's where the OC needs to adjust, not just the players! And, while Sparano may not want to hang a coaching friend out to dry in the press, he seems a bit too defensive of the play calling, imho. I know it's not all on Henning but this is the NFL and you have to call the plays that will be effective for what you have on the field - and he's not done that very will this year at all. -

I think the oline being mauled was something they never considered as a possibility and that is why there were less rollouts and waggles and naked bootlegs.

The only starting Olinemen who finished the game were they started it was John Jerry.
the other 4 did not finish the game, or were playing out of position, how were they going to run the ball with a lineup that maybe starts a preseason game..and that is a maybe...adamprez2003 likes this. -

I can't quibble with Irish's move, Odrick breaking his foot and shin was not forseeable.
I'll warm back up to ***** when he stops putting himself over the team, I wanted him here, I'll stick by him but change his nickname until he proves otherwise.
He did make his QAM appearance just now, did not really say much. -
Anyhow, once again I am a Henne believer, but I also think it's really unfair to judge Thigpen on last nights game. He never had a chance with the play of everyone else. -
