WHY?
Are we excited about going 6-10 and finishing 3rd in the AFCE?
Are we excited about you stringing Soprano along and not firing him while trying to hire someone else IN ONE OF THE MOST EMBARRASSING SPECTACLES THIS FRANCHISE HAS EVER SEEN?
Are we optimistic that Brian Daboll, who led an offense TO LEASE POINTS THAN DAN FREAKING HENNING is going to catch lightning in a bottle?
Are we excited that We have spent the last decade defining perpetual mediocrity?
What prey tell are we excited and or optimistic about?
Every team in our division is loading up. And we're STAYING THE 7-9 course.
How refreshing.

What are you doing here then? You should just give up being a fan if you have no optimism.
Do you want him to say we are hopeless?
Or is this just another reason to criticize an owner because you have nothing better else to add or say?Trowa, steveincolorado and Ohio Fanatic like this. -

I don't hold out much hope for the season, but what is the guy supposed to say?
"Hey fans, we suck, but come spend your money on us anyway"
Come on. He's got no choice after the debacle of his own making in January other than to let this thing play out for the season and then actually make a decision and stick by it, whatever it is.steveincolorado, BlameItOnTheHenne and Stitches like this. -

He's a terrible owner. He could give a **** LESS about winning games. He wants NAMES to win the backpage. Be they shiny former pro bowlers or minority owners. He KILLS our homefield advantage for what? To have more 'Orange Carpet' parties?
Its a message board. And my message is: As an Owner, Stephen Ross SUCKS.
Win a ****ing playoff game. That's the bar. It ain't terribly high. WIN ONE GODDAMN PLAYOFF GAME, then you can tell me how he's the next steinbrenner.FLACRW, Abbi Normal and Bpk like this. -
Why shouldn't we be optimistic? Ireland and Sparano's master plan is a stroke of genius. :pointlol:

It's classless and made us look bush league to everyone around the league with half a brain. -
Blame the front office or the players, but to blame the owner with an open pocketbook for not winning a playoff game is not only ludicrous but also stupid. -
The fact that Dan Henning is no longer here gives me a reason to be optimistic.

But it's become clear Ross has NO CONFIDENCE in them, and is meddling in football opps.
When an owner who has no idea what he's doing starts effecting football decisions, it never ends well.

A owner who wants to win gives the blank checkbook to his GM and gets out of the way. He doesnt conduct a high profile coach wooing in public before CANNING THE GUY On the job.
Embarrassing. -
Teams release franchise stars everyday and dump them like garbage. The NFL is a business, not etiquette class. Sh*t happens. You can spend the rest of your life crying about this or get over.. I suggest you get over it and try to enjoy the season.Ohio Fanatic likes this. -
Ross's entire press conference was a mish mash of platitudes and nonsense.
The only thin interesting that sticks out is that he profusely praised Ireland for being hard working, not panicking, extremely intelligent, etc., yet here he is on tony:
"Tony's a nice guy. The players like him. He's got to win this year"
Ireland is clearly on safe ground than Tony and I think that's why you will not see a move for a QB, even Orton, unless he's released or comes real cheap. Ireland is saving thos high picks for himself, and the next head coach whom he might have a hand in choosing.
Ireland is acting like a guy who is going to have another chance to find a franchise QB, and Sparano is going to be the guy that suffers for it.Tin Indian, Bpk and Rick 1966 like this. -
And on the improvement, Ohio: Going 7-9 again and losing to the ****ing Browns and Bills? Hardly an improvement. -
Ross got burned by it and will hopefully learn something new from it. All your crocodile tears over how Sparano was treated mean nothing to me as he is still cashing in on a multimillion dollar contract and is still employed.Coral Reefer likes this. -
First... 6-10? Why are we going to be worse this year than last year... when we have a ton of young players who are only getting better and have had zero significant losses?
2nd... what are you talking about how we are "staying the course"? Do you not see us trying to be aggressive out there? Trading for Bush, trying to trade for Orton, etc. What about our actions say that we are trying to "stay the course"? Our actions represent the exact opposite?Trowa likes this. -
I love the adamant defense of Ross like he's done ANYTHING for this franchise. It's amusing.
I guess you were out in the sun too long waiting for the Heat parade to swing by. :) -
This SHOULD be where the Free Agents want to come. And right now, we're just 'the other team' they use as leverage. That's sad. -
-
Where do you get that he does not care about winning games?
What exactly tells you that?
Because he's smart enough to be doing things outside of the game to build PR and attention to the team in the community with the "Orange Carpet" idea?
Famous "minority owners" is basically another PR move meant to bring attention to the Dolphins and take advantage of the uniqueness of the S. FL. community that just happens to be full of celebrities. These are the types of things an owner does handle while allowing his football people who know the game to make football decisions.
As far as Ross "killing our home field advantage".
That one is really off.
Our home field advantage was significantly weakend the minute we moved into Joe Robbie Stadium from the OB and has been killed by our teams lack of success.
Honestly, IMO, Ross is the LEAST of our problems.RevRick, Trowa, Tin Indian and 3 others like this. -
Desperate times call for desperate measures. However, this attempt to bring in the superstar head coach has been tested and has failed this franchise. I'm glad we didn't land Harbaugh and your assumption that we didn't land Cowher is irrelevant as he didn't land anywhere, thus you can assume he wasn't on the market looking for a job.
Life isn't fair. It wasn't fair to Sparano, but he is back and has a chance to redeem himself. I personally love Sparano (save for the fist pump FG love) and don't feel as if Ross did anything wrong. Business owners constantly look to improve and if he could have pulled off these conversations with Harbaugh without it becoming a media circus, then the entire episode would have simply been an owner doing his due diligence to recruit a potential upgrade, before eliminating your current coach.Coral Reefer likes this. -
I don't believe we're moving in the right direction. I'm not going to resort to the potshots lobbed my way in this thread, but questioning my fandom to this team is misguided. This isnt the 1980s. It doesnt take a Stalinesque five year plan to improve in the NFL, team do it in 2 years now, by drafting shrewdly and adding complimentary components. We're stuck in neutral. 7-9. 7-9. What's a realistic expectation for this year? Whats our path to the playoffs?
Where are we better than last years mediocre team?DolfanJake likes this. -
I don't know if Henne is the long term answer, or if a veteran like Orton can take control of this offense and LEAD the team, but if our QB's are consistent, limit turnovers and make the occasional big play, this team can and will compete for a playoff spot.
Remember, we were 5-4 when Sparano pulled Henne in favor of Pennington... It wasn't because Henne was atrocious, it was because we needed a leader on and off the field and someone that can read a D and exploit it.. We all know how the 2nd half of Henne's season went, the 4th quarter INT's, the poor decisions, the looking all world one series to making a stupid throw the next..
Fix those problems either with Henne or a 2nd option and this team has the pieces to make a playoff run. -
I dont fault Ross for doing what he did in January. It's clear we need a change a head coach IMO. Where I do fault him is not sticking with his original plan to fire Tony in the first place. If you were willing to replace him, then replace him. Don't try and fool everyone into thinking Harbaugh was first on your list, but Sparano was a very close second, and if you couldn't have Harbaugh, you wanted Tony. Nobody believes that, and all it's done is set the franchise back another year really. Nobody really WANTS to come to Miami right now I think. Everyone knows that if this is another sub par season, we're probably in for wholesale changes. Although, i feel Ross would keep Ireland, and wipe out the coaching staff completely.
Continue on your rant now, but... I do think you're off base a bit here. There's really nothing else for Ross to say at this point.Bpk likes this. -
That's a lot of 'ifs' and no tangible improvement. We need a capable veteran, if only in a back up capacity to help and motivate Henne.
And our Running game may actually be the wost in the league this year. Bush is a 10 carry a game back, and some unheralded rook from KState is all we have separating Lex Hilliard from being the feature back. That's TERRIFYING.DolfanJake likes this. -
The running game was a crutch last year, it couldn't get any worse....
And there are "if's". FA has just begun after the lockout. Things can happen in these next few days.. Or they may not. Either way, don't assume our offseason acquisitions are done. -

We are however back to responsibilities of the football mgmt. side, specifically the GM Ireland not Ross.
We need to resign Ronnie B. or R. Williams at minimum and bring in another QB.
FA period hasn't even opened yet though so lets have at least a little patience. -
and don't give me that "coaches are a fraternity" crap. there are only 32 head coaching positions in the world, and plenty of people willing to fill it. Our franchise simply didn't have enough to offer relative to San Fran for Harbaugh's services. If Ross wins that bidding war, your whole argument is blown out of the water, not that it has much to stand on now anyway. -
Only two possibilities IMO: 1) $$$$ - just outbidding everyone else and (2) hoping a player wants to come to Miami because he has a home here
You're mad because you think our elite franchise isn't doing it the "right way". We are not an elite franchise. -

Fins are looking at Bradshaw
Fins are looking at Orton
Fins are looking at Edwards
Fins are looking at Miller
Fins are at the Free Agency Mall and stuck at the Ross discount dept......
GM is a great window shopper while other teams are actually making purchases....not that we need any........
By the time we figure out whats going on it's all over. Damn better to just count my blessing that they actually signed Dansby last year and will have 5 years to watch his career be wasted as this team tries to figure out it's azz from a hole in the ground.......
But still time to do something and surprise the heck out of me, just no longer holding my breath and not able to drink any more of the coolaid some in here are on.FLACRW likes this.
