personally, i think stevie blows clapton away. i always thought clapton was overrated. maybe he was something special in the 60s but even then i thought jeff beck blew him away. (jeff beck was one of the most underrated guitarists ever. how jimmy page and clapton got more props then beck is beyond me)

I mean I like Page and Clapton more than Beck.. I grew up listening to Zeppelin tho.. and I'm not quite sure where the Clapton thing came in but it did.

That's a tough one. The first concert I ever went to was the overrated Eric Clapton. Unfortunately SRV died before I could see him. I'd have to go with SRV, his music moves me a bit more.

 

SRV not even a question IMO. He's the Berninni of the blues...meaning play a bunch of great blues songs back to back and Stevie will stand out...always.....

 

They're really apples and oranges, in my opinion. Comparing a blues artist with a rocker isn't fair.

 

Not only that, but all due respect to Stevie...alot of his stuff was rehashed Hendrix licks. Still a great player though.

IMHO:

Technical ability: Stevie > Eric
Songwriting: Eric > Stevie

 

That's my opinion, too. I voted for SRV in the poll based on guitar skills alone.

I'm not that familiar with Vaughan I have to admit. I do like Clapton, but was kind of disappointed when I saw him live.

 

i hear he has a problem playing his older stuff. he seems to like playing his new stuff more often.

 

Yes. Your version is too busy for my tastes.

 

Clapton any day of the week. The guy just wrote amazing music. Just my opinion.
