The kid is so calm in the pocket, and he is looking really promising with the big chunk yard passes. He would have had 3 TD last game had it not been for 2 drops. And the game before that Hartline had a slant drop in end zone. I think Tannehill is our QB for the next 10-15 years. Love this guy.
So happy we didn't land Flynn. Talk about a freaking bust. We were cursed with Culpepper years ago, so this is the football Gods getting us back with drafting Tannehill instead of landing Flynn.

I don't know if Tannehill has shown a ton of improvement, but I don't know it's worth being discouraged either.

I'm just talking preseason improvement from last year. Not career improvement.

Considering the running game has been no threat at all so far and he hasn't thrown an interception this preseason. Yah.
Whether that translates into the regular season......
Really need to see the running game start to gel. -

There are times where Tannehill shows marked improvement with his reads and accuracy. He seems to have more zip with his throws and decisiveness with his ball placement.....at times.
Unfortunately, his checks can be erratic and he lacks some consistency in his reads, leading to sacks. Still seems to have trouble holding onto the ball too long. Of course, I am not on the field, so I do not see what he sees pre/post-snap.
I would like to see improvement in making quicker and smarter decisions pre/post-snap. His indecisiveness leads to sacks, which leads to potential fumbles and/or injury.
As for his throwing in general? Much improved!Drowning likes this. -

We are VERY far from a Super Bowl team.Pagan and Rhody Phins Fan like this. -
In all seriousness, there's no way you could know whether or not Tanny is a 'Superbowl Quaterback' at this point. No way.PhinFan1968 and RevRick like this. -

In the Tampa game he was looking defenders off and quickly going through his reads. That's the most I have ever seen him do it.

I'm kind of really upset that, that dick Swaringer decided to use his Helmet as a hammer and drive the crown of it at Dustin Keller's knee in a preaseason game, when he clearly could of maned up and just swung him down with his hands. (he heard it from me on twitter). Its sad because Keller showed signs of a great relationship and timing with Tannehill. He was def going to be our best tight end we've had in years. Its crazy how the lack in skill from 1's to 2's in the NFL is so unbalanced. We are doomed at tight end, and Tannehill likes his Tight Ends (Fasano) -

He needs to work on seeing the whole field and not locking onto receivers so much. Other than that, with better weapons he will continue to grow as a QB.

The other thing about Tannehill this year is he has looked good passing from the pocket. That's a big change from last year. Once we start using some misdirection our running and passing game will improve greatly.
I'm excited about this year. -
IMHO he has looked mighty fine so far this year, yes there are things he still needs to work on, but there are very few players in this league that don't. So when the handcuffs come off game 1 of the regular season and he has the full playbook to work with, I expect to see this offense come alive. I really think it gets lost on most fans that in the preseason they are working on weaknesses and only have about half the playbook to work with. So when a player does not look as sharp as expected most get down on them. When in reality they may have just made some major improvement on their biggest weakness.

I also think that while he's made some strides, he still has that tendency to hang on a bit. Some of that is likely due to play development and/or him paying attention to what is going on with the OL, but in reality, that is a weakness of his that has been prevalent thru his college career and last year. That doesn't mean he hasn't improved, just that it's still a tendency of his...
But he's going thru the progressions faster than in the past, he's seeing things pretty clearly on the field. He'll miss that security blanket with Keller... I think that one element, now missing, would have improved this O tremendously. We'll just have to wait and see if Clay or Egnew can develop enough to regain Tanny's confidence...
Still, what we have to see is the OL come together to really get a good view of what he's capable of... -

I think the final judgement in any Dolphin fans mind should ask this one simple question: Can we win a Superbowl with Ryan Tannehill as the QB.
With everything I have seen to date, in practices this season, game film from last season, and preseason action, the answer to this question has to be YES!
The kid looks great on some plays. (The pass to Gibson in the endzone in the Tampa game was a pass great QB's make) Will there continue to be a growing period, surely. Will he have us shaking our heads in some games, absolutely. However, given the entire body of work after this season is over, and I think we'll all walk away feeling pretty good about the QB position.
Ireland did so well with bringing in the weapons Tannehill needed. The acquisitons of Wallace, Gibson, and Keller was just what the doctor ordered for a blooming QB. Then inexplicably, he fumbled the TD and shackled this offense by not addressing Left Tackle. If McKinnie or Albert were unattainable, then he should have drafted Lane Johnson.
It is a disservice to Ryan Tannehill, Lamar Miller, and the rest of this offense to be shackled by a substandard O-line. This coaching staff is going to earn their money this season, whether it is keeping in backs and TE's to help with protection, or calling timely screens, slants, and quick hitters to help off-set the pressure, they will have to be one step ahead of the certain adjustments all season long.
Smoke and Mirrors for an offense that just needed a solid starting five foundation O-line to get to that next level.
Miller wants to rush for 1500 yards this year - perhaps the talent is there, the blocking won't be. Not fair.
A young QB trying to emerge into that next echelon of NFL QB's with a ball and chain off an O-line dragging him down. Even if we can manage protection by keeping in backs and TE's, we shut down cylinders that could have been wide open. As good as he can be this year, it could be better.
So keep this in mind, when things stuggle, and they will. It is not entirely his fault and I hope Ireland steps up and takes some of that heat. -
I find it incredible that anybody is arguing with the OP's position that Tannehill has shown a a ton of improvement. To put this in perspective even Omar Kelly has a video on the Sun-Sentinel page where he admits that Tannehill has shown a ton of improvement. And he has been a Tannehill basher all along who pounds his negative narrative until it becomes so obvious that it's undeniable. If I ever found myself being more negative about something this obvious than that idiot, I'd be considering checking myself in for a mental eval.

Tannehill has played well this preseason. There have been the normal and expected preseason miss timings, dropped passes, etc. It's preseason after all and Tannehill's been working with an overall new receiving corps. That chemistry will take time to develop however...
If we don't develop a formidable running game, Tannehill will struggle this season. Under Sparano and the pathetic play calling, Chad Henne was called upon to throw the ball 40+ times a game, with Ricky WIlliams and ROnnie Brown in the backfield. Defenses needed only to bide their time and Henne started getting picked off left and right.
If Lamar Miller or Daniel Thomas don't stand up and start running the rock, forcing Tannehill to have to throw the ball 40+ times a game, we're going to get our asses handed to us this season.
Tannehill doesn't need to be Dan Marino but he does need to be Bob Griese at least, manage the game, make accurate throws and LEAD the offense. -
I hope we don't make the same mistake with Tannehill. -

I'm going to avertly state right now, if we can't RUN the ball, we're going to lose. -
Was just going to mention, at least half that equation is at least close to solved right now. The defense we have now rivals any defense Marino ever played with - I think Marino would have LOVED to have played with this defense supporting his offense. Last year, we didn't create a lot of turnovers, but we were still stingy with points. And the points Marino's offenses put up might have generated a few more turnovers from the opposition trying to keep up. Would have been fun to see.
I would love for Tannehill to have a good running game. He passes very well after play action, and that always works better with a good running game. Marino was half-hearted with his play-action fakes, but a good running game helps any quarterback. Remains to be seen how this year's going to go from an offensive line and running back standpoint, but I look forward to seeing the evolution of the running game. Our offense will work best synergistically when the running game is strong enough to open up the pass and the passing game is threatening enough to provide easy running lanes. That's the hope, anyway.
