Ball Placement, throwing on the run, and he's durable.

They're largely dismissing the fact that it takes a while to get everyone on the same page in a new offense.

OR that his line couldn't protect him the 1st 4 games - hence the cutting of 2 starters.

Regardless of what we might see, Tannehill hasn't necessarily done himself any favors in the time he's been in the league. Let's get real: sometimes he looks utterly clueless out there. He's also been saved a few times in the last few games on dropped INTs. But they're not looking at him quite like we are.
They're doing stat sheet analysis, and some minor film work. Let's not get it twisted: he's worked damn hard on a lot of little things. We all have seen it. It's quite undeniable. That one pass to Stills for a TD while getting pummeled was All-World. Absolute perfection! The Parker play that was called back....mahvelous! The scramble? All-Pro.
It's always been about consistency (and maybe even confidence) with Tannehill. If he gets hot and starts putting up numbers while still getting decent protection along with Ajayi pounding it out....other teams better watch out. His demeanor has definitely changed. I think the players are starting to see his toughness and worth. If he starts to turn the page on some of his inconsistencies, we just might have a player for the next 5+ years. I sure as hell hope so. We deserve it as fans. This team deserves it. Quite frankly, I think Tanny deserves it. He obviously puts in the work. Glad to see some of these things finally showing up on the field. -

Ryan has a lot of talent, but it has just been hard for him to adjust to having a new scheme every year along with no running game and offensive offensive line play. I was starting to think we needed to move on after the 1-4 start, but I think he has earned back a lot of my respect and I think he could be the long term solution here if he keeps playing like he has been. Gase has lit a fire under this team and they are all playing at a high level. Some of those throws that RT17 made yesterday were just awesome. He is probably the toughest QB in the league.

As far as the national analysis is concerned they just see an inconsistent QB. I personally see a QB who has struggled because of bad coaching an bad OL play, but the national media have written their narrative and they won't change it now. Even if he takes off and plays at a high level the national media is going to be full of "yes, but ..." analysis for the rest of his career a la Alex Smith or Tony Romo.
Anyway I expected the team to be inconsistent over the first 8 games of the season. Now its up to them to show they can be consistently good in the new scheme.EverFin, cuchulainn, Fin D and 1 other person like this. -
If he keeps doing what he has been doing, ala bringing his team back from a deficit to either win or tie in the fourth quarter four weeks in a row, they'll only have one thing to say: winner.

All the national media sees is stats, wins, highlights and a few nationally televised games. That's where they base their opinions on, and unfortunately, Tannehill hasn't won much, hasn't had great stats, is rarely ever featured in highlights and hasn't played particularly well in the few primetime games he's been on.
And like you said, after the narrative has been written, it's very hard to rewrite it. Tannehill is going to have to put up elite (top 5) level stats across the board over a few years, and probably win a super bowl to shake off the "game manager- can't put team on his back" label.Pauly likes this. -
Tannehill does have the stats though Thats one of the funny things. Over the next few weeks, barring injury, he's almost certainly going to be in the top three all time in most passing yards over a player's first five seasons, and might actually pass Marino himself if he has a few big games. (he needs to average 263 yards to do that). He'll probably end up in the top 10 for TD passes in the first five seasons as well, with one of the highest completion percentages and lowest interception percentages as well. And thats all despite suffering as many sacks over that period as almost anyone in history.
Has he been as good overall and the HOFers and future HOFers on the list? No. But the notion that a QB has to be either perfect or garbage is infuriating on its own.ChrisKo and adamprez2003 like this. -
So it's worth pointing out the average completion percentage in Marino's days was 56% while today it's 63%, average passer rating was 73 while today it's 89, and average yards was 3270 while today it's 3900.
However, I will say this: the one stat where Tannehill has been respectable over his tenure is total yards (or yards per game), so that's good. Problem is he's not been impressive on most key efficiency metrics. At least this year, he's becoming respectable on Y/A but is still average in overall passer rating. -

Regardless of what the national media thinks, we need to make the playoffs. It's so sickening to not have made the playoffs since 2008 and to not have WON a playoff game since Lamar Smith had over 200 yards in that win against Indy on Dec. 30th, 2000!! 2000 dude... 16 years.Pauly likes this. -
Joe Flacco and Eli Manning get a lot of positive national exposure precisely because they have proven they can do it in the playoffs even though Tannehill has, arguably, been better in the regular season since 2012.Unlucky 13 likes this. -
Which elite QB would have survived four years behind Olines that bad? I'm proud of RT17 for his toughness.

Very impressed with Thill vs Chargers. We all knew at some point the running game would be held in check and Thill would have to make some plays and he did. I was begging for the jump ball to Parker on 3rd and 19. Thats a play we dont run nearly enough. Parker is a monster on those jump balls. He should be thrown at least 2 of these a game. Use the playaction early in downs and throw it deep to Parker. If he is 1 on 1 he is open. Thill made a huge play with his feet too. Good to see. All in all a really good game. I would still like to see us take advantage of the play action more on 1st and 2nd down.

And I liked the 3rd down pass to Parker in the endzone at the end of the game. We didn't get the obvious call as the refs were busy with their screw job, but that's a play where Parker has the advantage. -

It would be huge if Parker stepped up and became that big threat. He has shown glimpses of it. I loved that they got him involved early. Was nice to see. He was close to breaking a couple. Had a 42 yarder called back. He is a legit deep threat and we need to take advantage of that. Not in the run past you way but if he is 1 on 1 he is going to come down with the ball more times than not. Even on the plays he hasnt come down he always got his hands on the ball first and later lost it. Its a very safe play cause as long as thill puts the ball high nobody is picking it off. Parker, Landry and Ajayi have the potential to be a really good 3 some. Its been a long time since we have had 3 guys this young and talented at once. I would love to see a big time TE join that group. Replacing Cameron and Sims with unknowns have been a big difference maker on the positive end imo. Imagine what a stud TE could do for this offense. Any dual threat TE I should keep my eye on at the college level?

Throws a great deep ball.
Gets Miami out of bad plays (per Adam Gase)

It's a moment where Tanny could've put the Chargers away and threw a lame duck. Luckily the defense sealed it with the Alonso pick 6 and those other INT's. Don't get me wrong, he still played a very good game and Gase is doing a whole lot better managing his dropbacks.
