And I was apparently mistaken about Stephon Gilmore's contract. His contract includes offset language. To my knowledge, he and Dontari Poe are the only ones. I've heard reference to Whitney Mercilus having offset language but I'm not sure that makes sense because he was picked so low, the players around him aren't generally getting guaranteed fourth year salaries anyway, which kind of makes the offset language issue a moot point.

Personally I don't see why it should get protracted out. Picks 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 9 all got contracts with no offset language. Picks 10, 11 and 12 have offset language. I can't find anything on Pick 13 but I know that Pick 14 has no offset language.

Right I can see that, me being greedy of course I was hoping for nobody to have offset in the 1st round and it would have really forced the teams hand....they could at this point rest on that there is a guy in the Top 10 (albeit number 10) who does have it....
It gives the team a little more to stand on IMO... -
I dont see how a player could actually justify not having offset language in their contract. If they suck enough to be cut in the first 4 years of their deal... while being a 1st round pick (top 10 pick to boot) and getting every opportunity and 2nd/3rd/4th chances to succeed… then there is no logical explanation for why they deserve to continue getting paid the team that cut them...

Then why have any guaranteed money in the contract at all? If the player sucks enough to get cut, why should he collect money? Why not have all contracts be year by year salaries with no guarantees?finyank13 likes this.

Well, in an ideal world... absolutely. Players really should be paid on performance, with some sort of injury protection built in of course. If you are playing poorly, you dont get paid as much. And if you are playing great, you get more and arent being underpaid for your production.
However, that is obviously never going to happen in reality. -
There is no right or wrong in this matter. Its a negotiation.
