...on the way in to work this morning, I was listening to the Baltimore sports station and their Ravens beat reporter was mentioning that the team is desperate to fill a need at corner.
They're not looking for an all-world starter, but someone who can provide depth and fill in until Fabian Washington and LaDarius Webb get healthy.. (they just lost Dominik Foxworth for the season a couple weeks ago)
Since it seems that Jason Allen may be somewhat on the fringe, do you think the Ravens would make a suitable trade partner?
Their reporter mentioned that the Ravens don't want to trade picks, but would look to move a player. They are very deep at LB and TE.
What do you guys think?

Cornerback depth is definitely a strength of our team and I'd rather not give it up.
Especially to the Ravens that we have to play in Baltimore, a sheik superbowl pick this year, which will be the weakness we target. A weak secondary, and often injured Ed Reed, is the only reason the Ravens are behind the Colts in the AFC imo. -

id think will allen would be more suitable for trade bait.

Agree that Jason Allen would be attractive for not only the Ravens, but the Titans and a couple of other teams, but and it's a huge but:
Jason Allen is our second most experienced Corner Back after Will Allen, with Will coming back from the ACL, would it be wise to risk trading J Allen so Nolan Carroll and Nate Ness can fillin?
They have -0- NFL starts between them, a 5th rd pick we would receive for Jason Allen would not be worth the risk imho. -

Imho, after last season, especially with JA playing well in the Steelers game, they don't have to rely on a Nate Ness or Nolan Carroll, if we saw one thing all of last season, young Cb's give up big plays.finyank13 likes this. -
You have Vontae, who is the best of them out there, but for all the flash he showed, he gave up some big plays too. Sean Smith, ehh he needs a big fast start this year, I get the feeling from him that he is emotional...a fast start could do wonders, getting burnt in Buffalo might have the opposite effect.. Will I mean the cat is good, but that was 2 years ago and a severe injuey later...Up until the draft and after it, Miami was clamoring for a FS, and realistically have 2 options, Culver, and Clemons...That is a HUGE responsibility to be filled and no matter how good Clemons is doing so far in camp...this position is still up in the air to me big time....then you have JA, and some rookies...who are all unproven..
My hope is that Miami's front 7 brings so much pressure that is takes the burden off of the secondary alla the Giants in that SB year...that team didnt have an amazing secondary, but their front 7 was legendary with bringing pressure....Opposing QB's didnt have enough time to take shots downfield, as there was usually somebody in his face... -
depth at CB is critical for any playoff wannabee team, especially in AFC. but, if they offered a 4th round pick, with clauses, I'd consider trading J Allen to them. Take advantage of their desperation.

I personally hope our team does nothing to help the ravens out, i cant stand them and theyll already have a good team regardless.

If the Dolphins REALLY believe that Jason Allen is doing awesome in camp and is coming along (me = skeptical), then they shouldn't trade him. You need all the corners and DBs you can get your hands on, you can never have enough.
Now, on the other hand, if they believe that Jason Allen is still just Jason Allen and that Nate Ness might actually be more worthy of a roster space, then you could absolutely think about trading JA to him.jetssuck likes this. -
But still, heading into the 2010 season with
Sean Smith-16 starts
Vontae Davis-11 starts
Will Allen coming back from a ACL injury
UDFA Nate Ness
5th rd pick Nolan Carroll
Is not the best situation, if Carroll is injured, that would leave Ness, if J Allen was kept we would have extremely athletic backups with Allen the first call off of the bench.FinsAreLife likes this. -

CB is the hardest position to fill. No way do we give up any of our CB.

I have warmed slightly to Jason Allen over the years. He is a great special teams guy, a good athlete and most importantly provides depth to the secondary. For those reasons, I'd have to say no on trading him.
I think I may be in the minority here, but I think our secondary is going to be much better this year. I really like Clemons at FS ( have to see him in a game though), The young guys Davis and Smith and now the addition of Nolan Carrol. This is a good young group and will only get better, but the main reason is I think our pass rush and the different blitz packages that Mike Nolan is installing will take alot of pressure off of those guys. -
My guess is that the final roster will feature Smith, Davis, W. Allen, J. Allen and Carroll. I'b be very comfortable with that CB line up. The only way I would trade J.A. would be if they were so happy with Ness that they were going to cut him anyways.
If they were to trade him to the Ravens, then my fantasy would be to acquire Pitta. That would never happen of course, but I can dream. -
That's not even close to happening. Not only is it extremely rare to trade a guy you just picked in the draft this year, but Pitta has supposedly looked outstanding in camp.
Major Wright and Dennis Pitta...two guys I wish we'd somehow come away with for sure. And Geno Atkins. I'm not even sure exactly how he'd fit, probably a DE, but he's ridiculously good. -

All specualtion at this point , but that is part of what pre season is about of course.
Bottom line , if Miami thinks a deal benefits them they would be agreeable to move a CB ( Jason Allen perhaps ) .
They would of course have to feel they have a suitable replacement for him , Carroll / Ness presumably and feel what they would receive would be an improvement for the team overall.
Baltimore does have some potentially intriguing players they may move , so a player for player seems most likely to me . -
I'm not saying I want to trade him or anything...I hope the light has gone on for him and he's as good as we've been hearing about in camp.
I'm just curious if our F.O. felt like they could address another need or another player if the felt like J.Allen wouldn't stick.
