The running game remains a point of contention, too. Lamar Miller had three carries for three yards, and now has seven carries for 15 yards in two games. As a team the Dolphins rushed 26 times for 46 yards against the Buccaneers.
"I think we all agree we had way too many negative yardage plays in the running game," Philbin said, "so that really wasn't fixed the way I hoped it would have been."
The problem?
"Penetration," Philbin said. "A lot of penetration. We had guys in the backfield. We didn't establish an edge, they established an edge on us, got upfield on us a couple of times, penetrated and got in our backfield way too much, way too much."

"We don't have a first-team right guard right now," Philbin said. "It's going to be an open competition. I don't know who's going to start the game, the game against Dallas ... I'm not sure who's going to start at that position at left guard either. So we're going to have a good week of practice and we're going to make a decision and determination who that's going to be."
Philbin cautioned "just because that person starts, that may be the starter the next week (or) it may not. We don't have clarity at those two positions yet and it's up to them to keep playing."

BATTLE OF THE WEEK: Slot defensive back: Will Davis vs. Jamar Taylor. Davis, last year's third-round pick, had the job as the fifth defensive back last week against Tampa Bay and again in practice Monday. When he plays, cornerback Cortland Finnegan stays on the outside and Davis plays the slot position. Taylor, last year's second-round pick, appeared to have the job during practice last week. When Davis plays, he's the outside cornerback and Finnegan moves to the slot. Davis is the more active player, frequently getting his hands on passes. But he's had two pass interference calls through two games. Taylor had a holding penalty declined in the preseason opener at Atlanta.
