The guy played Guard in College and was a great player. I think he has like 7 other family members that played college and the NFL .... I think his uncle was a pro bowl player???

He played center some for the Pats... Whatever they needed... Not outstanding... But as good as Kilgore I think. Definitely a great backup center to have... and someone that can play guard whenever the need arises.

He was the backup in New England and when the starting center was lost in the first game of the year he stepped in and played decently all season long.

So he has shown he can get it done.

He was cheap too.

Alex Karras was one of the meanest players in NFL history. If you are old enough, you may remember him from the movie "Against All Odds" as the muscle sent to deal with Beau Bridges in Cancun. He played for the Lions and was a physical beast. Very strong, low center....great player. Tough tough guy.

Wow that's a really cheap upgrade, dudes betting on himself big time.

Based on that 1 year deal, I suspect we either target another FA, or a premier combo C/G in the draft.

Still need to address tackle though. Lord I hope they aren't thinking Flowers.

A solid placeholder until we can bring in a long term starter, in this draft or the next one. I'm cool with it, but not excited.

According to Jeff Howe of TheAthletic.com, the Dolphins have agreed to a deal with Patriots center Ted Karras for a one-year, $4 million contract. The 27-year-old Karras started 15 games for the Patriots last year. The Patriots are hoping David Andrews returns after missing last year with blood clots, but Karras is the latest starter to head out the door in what could become a dramatic rebuild by Bill Beleichick.

Now Shelton has left the Pats. A lot of starters gone. Couldn't happen to a more deserving team. Welcome to the basement.

Alex Karras was fun to watch. He was the Aaron Donald of the 1960s. Undersized, super quick DT who lived in opposing backfields.
He almost became a Dolphin in 1966. His contract was up with the Lions. Former Lions HC George Wilson was Miami's first HC. Miami made a contract offer, but upon learning about it, the Lions really upped their offer and Alex decided to resign with Detroit. Before the start of the common draft and the merger, if an NFL player's contract was up, there was nothing to keep him from signing with the AFL.

You couldn't even make that movie now.
