We have to go 4-1...that's the mission for Philbin to keep his job. Tannehill was great. WRS very good. OL, serviceable, considering. Defense...forget this game and regroup. If the defense is what they showed today, we won't win two more games this year much less four more games. They have to be better than they were. Are they? Will find out soon enough.Oh, Dion Sims was good too. And Lamar Miller. Damian Williams was very bad.

Forget it.
This team ain't winning shat with this D. Philbin must rebuild D from scratch. Too many losers on that side of ball to count. -

Since I predicted before this game that the Dolphins would find a way to lose, I'm certainly not surprised by the final result.
I thought Tannehill and the offense played extremely well in the first half, but once again the offense failed to produce anything in the second half until the game was out of reach.
It was the defense which failed to show up at all and they are the reason the Dolphins lost today.
My prediction prior to the game was the Dolphins would finish the season 9-7. I feel they can still win 3 out of their next 5 games and finish with a winning record for the first time since 2008. It won't be enough to make the playoffs and may not be enough to save Philbin's job, but at least it won't be another season in which the Dolphins are 500 or below.
Anything less than 9-7 at this point and there will need to be a complete overhaul of this team and it's coaching staff IMO. -
Intensity level raises at the playoffs, this team will get destroyed in the playoffs by any of the top teams. If our defense wants to know what kind of intensity they should be playing, they should look no further than Landry and follow his example. That's how you show up to play in the playoffs, every single snap.

Other than the Patriots in the first game of this season, and the Chargers, who always have trouble winning games when they travel east, the Dolphins defense basically built their stats against teams which are near the bottom of the league in offensive stats.
The reality is that when this defense needs to make plays against the better teams in the NFL to win a game, they just don't seem to be able to do it. Today was obviously the worst game the defense has played all year, but this Dolphin defense is only slightly above average and is not anywhere close to being the great defense many on here have said they are.
I think today's game clearly shows that stats are vastly overrated. -
I think Tannehill proved today that he continues to improve and that he deserves to be the long term answer at the QB position for this team.
Perhaps the offense would have been more effective in the second half if they had been given more opportunities, but the defense just wasn't able to get the ball back for the offense in the second half.
I would certainly take 36 points from this offense every week and they would win the vast majority of those games without a doubt. Unfortunately today, the defense just let the offense down.BSQ likes this. -
There's not much improvement in my opinion, our goal is the playoffs right? Last season at this point we were 5-6, this year we're 6-5. One game

Offense is in place. Offense can compete at high level especially when it plays balanced. Oline's had issues, but due to injuries, one more eyar should solidify things there. The whole O team is competitive and improving. We could use improvements at WR and RB. RT is a limited QB but can win at high level in this system so the limitations are not necessarily weighing down the team. (We are never going to find a perfect QB.)
The defense is a disaster, across the board, top to bottom, loser after a loser. This unit needs a complete overhaul. They are uncompetitive at every position when they need to be. -

Theyre not going to make the playoffs unfortunately, and more bad news- Philbin will be back. Book it.

Which is pretty much my point. I disagree that the offense was a big reason Miami lost. IMO, this lost is 90% on the defense. Defense was freaking terrible today. -
The defense plays well when it goes up against inferior offenses, but the players on the defense just can't get the job done against the better teams in the league on a consistent basis.
I won't go as far as TooGoodForDez, and call for a complete new roster on the defensive side of the ball, but I do think that a lot of new talent is needed on that side of the ball if this team expects to be a legitimate playoff contender in the near future. -
I have seen peewee league players who tackle better then the Dolphins defense did today. -

I suspect Philbin will be back if the Dolphins finish the season 9-7 or better, even if they don't make the playoffs.
Yet if they finish 8-8 or worse, I just don't see Philbin being the coach next year. -

I also think the interior defensive line has shown a weakness in getting inside pressure in recent weeks.
I certainly agree that Misi is not the answer at middle linebacker. I was totally shocked when they signed him to a new contract in the middle of the 2013 season. I have never seen him as anything but a very average LB in the NFL.
I guess after signing Wheeler and Ellerbe after the 2012 season, Ireland wanted to ensure the Dolphins had the worst starting LB's in the NFL, so he decided to sign Misi because he and Philbin weren't getting along at the time.
Other than Jenkins, who probably had his worse game today since becoming a starter, I really don't see any other LB on the team who I would want back next year. McCain is a possibility, but we have seen so little of him this year, no one really knows if he can be a starter in the NFL or not. -

I've played with the playoff machine a lot and 10 wins seems to be the magic number for sure. Most of the "in the hunt" teams will play each other and things will even out. Miami just has to beat the teams they're supposed to beat and they'll be in. If we can manage to win out (big if), this may also be a similar situation as 2008 where we can win the division and keep the Patriots out of the playoffs completely. The Pats have a tough back to back away games at GB and SD. The Pats losing 3 in a row seems pretty unlikely, I know, but it's not impossible.

The defense was gassed. The altitude really did a number on them. That's not how we tackle. That's not us against the run. We'll be back to normal this week. I'm NOT giving them a pass because they'll couldn't get off the field to save their lives. I also don't forgive the losses to the Pack and the Lions because they just couldn't make a play to close out a game. But, we're a much better D than we showed against Denver. The injuries are trouble and they are mounting up but that's the NFL and teams require quality depth ready to go in and play when their number is called. Were getting thin and certainly couldn't afford any more bad luck. Win and stay healthy, you never know where it can take you once your in the Playoffs. Now if somehow we can get in there...

If Miami's offense can show up like they did in Denver, finishing 5-0 is not out of the question. Only a fool would be upset about the way our defense played in Mile High Stadium....elite athletes from around the US go there to train because it kicks their *** so thoroughly. Miami played extremely well against Denver and the D will be back to form this week.
