http://ultimate-exercise.com/fountainofyouth.html Interesting article. It's something I've noticed and believed for a long time, but now science is finally proving it out. If you want to look at the full study, the link is in the article, but I'll post it here as well. http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0000465 To sum up (for those who aren't interested in reading the articles), scientists have discovered that by doing load-bearing resistance exercise (i.e.-strength training), one can actually REVERSE muscular aging at the genetic level back to normal youthful levels, resulting in a longer, healthier life. If this isn't a good enough reason to give up some of your daily jogs and go hit the weights, I don't know what is. For goodness sakes, just look at Jack LaLanne- yes the infomercial juicer guy. The real secret to his longevity isn't the juicer he's sellin'- it's the fact he's kept up with his weight training! I really hope people do read these articles, b/c even though we are living longer as a population, we aren't being able to enjoy that longer life due to the terrible shape our bodies are in. So do the family a favor- get granny and gramps a gym membership for Christmas this year. They may not thank you now, but the smile on your childrens' faces after an action-filled weekend with them will be more than thanks enough.
