The Lions 2008 0-16, They seem to be building the team properly and a bit faster. And Front office
seems to get it. They could make playoffs before Miami. I know the Dolphins play in a tougher
division, but i guess we shall see.

Is this thread really necessary a week into the season?

The Lions seem to be less inept (from a front office perspective) than they have been historically, and I believe we're seeing the effect of the draft position now. Lions have been 'missing big' during the regular season for a long time now, and (again, given a measure of sanity in the FO) are enjoying a higher paced recovery than teams that have been 'missing small' and are historically middle of the pack. I think that their build up will slow down as soon as they have another five seasons picking 13th-20th (and I don't think they have a major run during that time either).

I like the Lions. I always root for them.

They've got a franchise QB and a dominant defensive line that can seriously get to the passer.
More specifically, they have a franchise QB and a motivated version of Albert Haynesworth. How did they get them?
Basically the new regime had the #1 and #2 pick in consecutive years, and then won the lottery when Jerry Jones came calling with a king's ransom for a terrible WR. It's a team that picked inside the Top 10 eight times in the last 10 years, and finally began getting it right.
They have several other nice pieces (Megatron, love what they've done at TE, etc.). But that's the root of it.JimToss, Tone_E, DePhinistr8 and 2 others like this. -
They're doing a good job though, no question. -

At least the Lions are building nicely. Could use them as an example but the organization...

It matters because the Miami fan base is tired, really ****ing tired of half-assed regimes coming in here and promising big and then delivering very little. Ireland & Sparano just don't have the goods, you know it and I know it Chris. Its hard to admit, but in your heart you know I am right. It took me until the end of last year to understand, but I have a calmness about it because I know its only a matter of a few weeks until I believe one will be gone, and then at the end of the year the other one will be gone. -

It shows an improvement from year one to year two -

As far as the statement from Jpep13 that the Lions are doing a better job than the Dolphins when it comes to rebuilding their franchise. I agree 100%. I would trade the players on the Dolphins for the players on the Lions right now and not even think twice about it.DolfanJake likes this. -
And to be fair, we went into GB and beat the Packers last year, that doesn't make us better than them. -

And if people are squirming it means your team is losing. Maybe you should go post on an ego board rather then a dolphins board. Just a thought. -
However Detroit have 7 years worth of top 8 picks certainly helps their cause. I do think they're cookin' something good up there, but that doesn't mean things won't work out here.
It's just one game.
