the offensive line needs to be set by the third preseason, if not next game. looks like the utility man (Garner) could be out for the season. fortunately we have lots of depth, size & talent amongst the Orcas to fall back on in an emergency.
my best guess for the start:
Long-Incognito-Grove-Thomas-Carey
I think Procter & Berger could surprise & John Jerry could break the into lineup later in the season.
I'm not completely sold on Incognito, even though Sparano apparently is in his corner.
never really know about these things, however, the coach needs to know & very soon.
as the offensive line goes, so goes the game, so goes the season. everything begins w/ the offensive line.

Jerry could break the line-up later in the season?
What gives that impression?
The guy has took essentially every 1st team RG snap since camp opened.Conuficus, Larryfinfan and NJFINSFAN1 like this. -
Friend Stitches:
1) I think Thomas knows what to do @ RG & is a beast finally ready to realize his potential in 2010.
2) simply put, JJ is a Rookie & unless he is out right superior to the Thomas on the field @ game time during the preseasons, they will probably bring him along slowly. I think RG is Thomas' to lose & I feel the same way about Grove @ Center. left guard is where the change has to happen. a lot has to do w/ established chemistry & timing of the front line. you don't fix what is not broken. look for a change @ RG only. -
Jerry was superior to Thomas out on the field last Saturday night, and has apparently been all throughout practices too.
If Thomas was such a beast he'd have the LG spot locked down already.Killerphins likes this. -
I think Thomas does have the RG locked down
@ least until JJ can gain some experience
& prove himself gradually in regular season games.
no reason to mess w/ the RG @ this point. we shall see...
wouldn't underestimate Thomas, the guy is a beast
his problem has been experience, finally he has some -
Was impressed with both. If Incognito plays like he did last week he will be a huge pick up. Jerry looks like he could unseat Thomas who has not lived up to the original hype.
I like our OLine. I do think Jerry unseats Thomas.
Center is actually my worry at this piont. Berger is mediocre and Grove continues to dissapoint with his injury issues. -
I seriously doubt, barring injury, that Thomas supplants JJ in the season opener.Pandarilla likes this. -
There is no way that Thomas has the RG position locked down since they've been shuffling him back and forth between LG and RG. The most likely starting 5 barring further injury is:
Long, Incognito, Berger, Jerry, Carey.
I think they prefer Grove as the starter at C but the injury has held him back.Pandarilla, PhinsRock and NJFINSFAN1 like this. -
We already know about Donald Thomas with his inconsistencies and injuries.
I was really impressed with Jerry and his strength. No wonder he has been penciled in as the starter so far. The new blood looks solid so far. -
If Jerry is taking all the snaps with the first string at RG, why on earth would Thomas start there in the Bills game? Makes no sense to me, Jerry has a lot more game experience than Thomas being years in college and seems to have more upside. I agree with Long, Incognito, Berger/Grove, Jerry, Carey and it needs to be solidified by this weekend so the OL has time to gel in game play before the Bills opener.

He's obviously not progressing as hoped. That upside we saw in the Summer of 2008 seems to have been overstated at the time and I think the coaches have realized this -
anything is possible.
we have excellent coaching,
these people know what they are doing.
having said that
I still think the only position totally open is LG
let them compete.
by game three we should know who will start
hopefully we'll see our starters on Saturday -

I have no horse in this race
I only want the best @ every position
I'm sure by game three we will know
who the starting front line will be
