The Dragic acquisition took the wind out of the thesis behind drafting Napier, and then Tyler Johnson's development as a point guard made Shabazz obsolete. As soon as you get solid evidence that Johnson is taking to the point guard position like he did, with the athleticism he possesses, that's it. That's your guy behind Dragic.

I have to live via highlights in games like these that aren't on TV here. Can't wait for the Tyler Johnson highlights for tomorrow. Already seen some.

Shriveled up foreskin makes a great point. A guy like Michael Carter-Williams never stood a chance.

I know there aren't any big Dubs fans here, but I'm sorry...wtf. Too good, and it's like this almost every night. Never seen a player like him. That offense is dizzying.

One thing I like about going small and getting Dragic and Johnson on the floor is it seems like you've got fewer instances where the guy with the ball is looking for somewhere to pass it and just can't find anyone getting open because everyone's just sitting with their defender. Maybe that's just a perception though.

This is why Goran Dragic has been slumping.

    http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/ethan-j-skolnick/article44622747.html

I can't even imagine. Yeah I know you're a 5 year, $85 million man...and you're paid that much to perform regardless of personal circumstances. But I don't know that humans work like that. He's going to be better and the fact the Heat can go 6-3 with him slumping is a good sign of resilience. NBA season is long and more stuff like this is going to happen. Someone will be hurt, someone will be going through personal turmoil (Whiteside seems likely, not exactly a stable guy I don't think). Being able to roll on anyway is a pretty good sign.

Still wish they'd have come out on top against Indiana though. I get the losses to Cleveland and Atlanta. That one I don't get.

Heat are like 9-41 lifetime in Indiana. It's just a tough place to play for them, travel wise it seems. Big 3 lost 7 in a row in the regular season to them.

Thinking about it, one thing that worried me a little is it seemed like the Heat had gone through in these first 9 games a period of health and prosperity but they still couldn't threaten the Cavs or Hawks, and blew one to the Pacers. I mean Wade's looked about as good as I've seen him in years.

But thinking about it more, Gerald Green missed 6 games. Dragic been slumping because of his family issues which are now resolving. Dwyane Wade missed a game. Tyler Johnson got like 1 minute against the Cavs and I have a feeling his development could be pacing similar to Whiteside's a year ago to where we'd be tempted to note the differences in the team before they started to give Whiteside heavy minutes and after.

I'm not saying the Heat have been beset with bad luck. We saw what bad luck really looks like, a year ago. But I think it's been about average. That's good because they're 6-3 dealing with all of it. At that pace wouldn't they win like 55 games? That's pretty damn good.

Nothing to do with who they beat or who they didn't beat.

It's about their statistical profile. Unlike the NFL, the NBA has large samples and the profiles tend to hold up over decades.

The Heat have the #1 Defense in the NBA based on Efficiency. Their offense is creeping into the top 7. They are 2nd in Pt. Diff. Their 3pt. defense is top notch, and the only lagging indicator is the Team 3 pt. % although their Pt. Diff. in that category is fine.

Their CURRENT Team Efficiency profile is that of a Finals contender and 50 plus win team.

I always assess after 20 games in the NBA..then take another look after 40.

But they look deep, talented and have every look of a a real contender and a real threat to Cleveland.

As long as they lock up Cespedes and Harvey as well as going out and adding some offense to the bottom of the lineup, then I agree.

So does Golden State break the record for wins in a season? I'd have to say they have a legit shot barring injuries. They look like they are playing the Washington Generals most nights.

Nah, let's get 35-40 games in and see because imo the west is pretty bad right now. 4 over 500 teams entering play today and 6 at 500. And they haven't really been playing anyone good.

I don't think so. Health being the first, obvious reason. The West has lots of good teams too. And they also haven't been away from Oracle for more than a 2-game 'roadtrip'. Those longer stretches of travel are when they'll really be tested.

    Something "always" happens.

Heat won 27 in a row, and before they did in that 66 win season, they had 14 losses. The 14 losses came against mostly diminished lineups where either, Bosh had a ankle, Bron had a back, or Wade had a knee issue. Then they got healthy.

The Dubs are starting OUT healthy.....and teams usually don't repeat the same injury luck two years in a row.

They will burn out. I think the Warriors are gunning to make nba history in the regular season but not sure how that will workout in the postseason.

Well injuries are obviously the big road block but really these guys are mostly young and can play big minutes and really I think they are out to break that record. Thats one of the key things, they have to go after the record, the Bulls were after that record. I think Golden State is going to come really close to the record this year. They are a historically great team (albeit for a season) and its obviously one of the greatest records in sports. Its going to be run to watch them this year.

Agree with everything you said fin72....

    But question to all....

better record? Bulls 72 wins, or Lakers 33 wins in a row?

For me, the 33 in a row IMO is the better record. I never had more fun in sports (including all the championships) than when the Heat got to 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27....

I'm not sure I do agree though that the daily watch for the consecutive record is a lot of fun. I hate the Heat and I was checking every Sportcenter and online everyday to see if they kept it up. For someone to win 72 games they are going to have to have a streak of at least 20-25 games to give themselves a chance. You're going to become everyone's target soon too, no one wants to be on TV as a highlight of win #25 in row, etc. Even the ****ty teams get up for a chance to be on a highlight breaking a streak.

Heat will win 34 in a row this year and Whiteside will average 10 blocks a game the rest of the season.

    Not really.

You could hold a gun to my head and I'd still take KD over him. Not even a second thought to it. Durant is a much more efficient player and Westbrook is a turnover machine.
