I was very vocal in the 53 man cutdown thread that he should not have made the team. Well, Don Jones I AM SORRY!!! Your play today against the Falcons helped win us the game. The hit on Harry Douglas was a thing of beauty. It forced the fumble and gave us the ball inside the Atlanta 20. John Denney dug in there and got the ball for us. From there we tied it up at 20 in the 4th quarter. It was a turnover we had to have. We needed to make a play to change the momentum. The Falcons were going to get the ball back with a seven point lead. But we got the ball instead.
Fortunately the coaches saw something in you in practice that we fans could not in the preseason games. Jeff Ireland knew enough to pick you with a 7th round pick. Congrats on making the team. And congrats on being a Miami Dolphin!!

Don't think you're the only one that needs to offer The Don an apology, most of us wondered how he made the final roster after seeing nothing from him in pre-season. Thankfully he's showing that all of us really don't know anything from just seeing pre-season and practice.

He's been a beast on special teams. Not only did he force that fumble but he drew a holding penalty later on. He may not ever play regular snaps on defense but he can make a major impact on special teams. He looks like a core special teams player, everyone needs those.

That tackle was just great, he made a similar play with Arkansas State, the last one on this video

That was a special team hit for the highlight reel!
I too thought Jones was headed for the practice squad but clearly he is a big time gunner, special team ace. Glad to have him on the team. -

Afriad I have a bit of a beef w/those who diminish the value of Special Teams.
Granted it is a bit like bunting, it is not sexy, it wins ballgames all things being equal.
And yet.
Sturgis being perfect so far, Don Jones creating a fumble, these things matter and are wildly unpredictable..meaning you need ST pro on the squad, its not a taxi squad -

Denny might have made the pro bowl on this play. how many opportunities do LS's get to make a play like this each week?

Denney is one very special player, should get a game ball today. -

This is the best hit I have seen as a Miami fan since 1980 on Special Teams...I kicked a pillow of the floor almost hit a candle and started a fire in the kitchen. I love this team.

At first I thought he would be flagged for helmet to helmet, but it looks as if he caught the shoulder. Takes a strong man to go high on his tackle and still wrap up....and then add the shoulders first slam. Scouting department was on Jones as a late round prospect, pre-draft..kudos to them.
I do recall Jones making a few big hits on coverage in the pre-season, so it's not like he showed nothing to make the roster...even if I agree that it was a curveball. Definitely the play of the game along with Denney. -

I remember OJ Brigance hitting a guy in the legs and flipping him upside down. I think Dedrick Ward from the Jets. Best hit I've ever seen live until today.
