Because Zach Thomas will be glued to him from his safety position.

I agree with the theory. Might go with Jones or Clemons instead. Gotta stop him one way or another.
Definitely need someone who can jam him in the first five and recover after missing.
And they all need to tackle better. The new rules make wrapping up cool again.BayAreaFinFan likes this. -

I agree. Let him knock gronk around and have a party.

I understand if there is a pitch count, but that would be the only reason..keeping that kind of talent on the bench is idiotic..DolfanTom and BayAreaFinFan like this. -
Jordan has experience dropping in coverage, playing in space, etc. I'd do it. Where ever Gronk lines up, Jordan is on him. Chuck him at the line, no free releases. Jordan is fast enough, and agile enough to mirror him all over the field. Physically capable of contesting any pass within Gronk's reach.

Yes lets put a promising pass rusher out in coverage against one of the most physical TE in the league. Might as well throw him at safety.

Rookie learning DE position suddenly given job of covering Elite NFL TE. Hmmmmmmm.

I'd put Jordan on Brady. As in on top of him. You all know how much Tom likes it when he is being hurried, hit and sacked.

We all know Jimmy Wilson will be left to cover him one on one... stop thinking smart here. Not sure why we wouldn't double cover, with a bump at the line and a Reshad Jones over the top but then one of their 14 undrafted wide receivers might beat us :wink2:
-
And I don't think you put Jordan on one of the best tight ends in the league to see if he can do it without knowing he can.

Defending Gronk
Why can't the Dolphins put Dion Jordan on Gronkowski full time on Sunday? The Patriots supposedly didn't let Jimmy Graham get a clean release and held him in check, where Miami did let him get off the line cleanly and got torched.
Those of you knowledgeable of the game: How hard is it to play man on a TE? And if it can be done, why not use someone like Jordan who is big enough to tie Gronk up? -
Jelani Jenkins is going to have to step up, imo. They don't even use Jordan much as it is, so I don't think they'll lean on him to cover the best TE in the game all day. -
Love the Radiohead avy btw -
I'd rather have Jordan rushing Brady. He's been a good pass-rusher so far (we need him there), and pressuring/hitting Brady is more important than coverage against the Pats. Has Jordan manned up any TEs this year?

You cannot compare it to Aqib Talib versus Jimmy Graham. The rationales are completely different. The Patriots considered Jimmy Graham to be the Saints' best pass catching threat. So what did they do? They put their most accomplished cover man on him, regardless of size disparity. The equivalent in this case is NOT putting Dion Jordan on Gronkowski. It would be putting Brent Grimes on Gronkowski.FanMarino likes this. -

I personally think Rob Gronkowski would have a career day if the Dolphins counted on Dion Jordan to plaster him in man coverage all day. And Rob Gronkowski has had quite a career, so a career day for him might break the 200 yard mark with 3 touchdowns.

I think if Dion Jordan is involved in covering Gronkowski, it would be limited to keeping him from getting a clean release when he is positioned in-line. Either jam him directly or keep Jordan(and other ends) aligned in a way that funnels his release.
I think ultimately it's got to be a defensive back covering him. -

No to Jordan covering Gronk. Let Jordan stop Gronkowski getting the ball in the first place by doing his pass defense from the DE rushing position. Remember the 1st thing Mike Mayock said when the Phins pick was announced in the Draft. He said the Dolphins Jordan pick was all about Brady. Maybe that was a crystal ball moment. Jordan might have his best day against the Pats. His playing time has to increase though. Can't do it from the sidelines.

Does anyone know how many reps Jordan got on Sunday from LDE vs RDE? It seems he barely played in Wake's place, with the team instead preferring Shelby. Does the team not think he's ready to play on that strong side?

Not sure..seen him a lot though doing exactly what were suggesting Jordan or Jones doing...I understand Talib has excellent cover skills, I also understand that the idea is far fetched, my point is get the guy on the field and have him do it all, there no reason he can't cover Gronkowski..I've seen him in space cover guys well half his size.MrClean likes this.
