According to SI's Jon Heyman, Jake Peavy has been dealt to the White Sox. No word on who is coming to SD

Wow, thought for sure he would decline any trade to AL team....Wonder what the chances are that he declines and uses his no-trade clause to say thanks but no thanks.

A Peavy teammate believed the ace right-hander might have reservations about pitching for volatile manager Ozzie Guillen.

Interesting turn of events. Hats off to CHW and their FO (Ken Williams)....will wait to see what they give up, but adding Peavy to the top of that Staff is a short term improvement for sure.

The balls in Peavy's court...he could leave them standing at the alter for sure.

News: According to MLB.com, left-handers Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda are believed to be in the deal. Richard would get a nice situation in San Diego, because he would be assured of a rotation spot and would get a solid pitcher's park to work in. Poreda could be brought up to pitch in their rotation immediately and would get a solid pitcher's park to work in. Peavy should be prepared to make a quick decision.

The Padres are waving the white flag...in May...sheesh..:sad:

It wouldn't surprise me if Bell the closer was also moved as well, next year he is a Free Agent and SD isn't or cannot pay him.

Man, as much as I'd love to see Peavy leave the NL West, I hope he nixes the trade (and maybe sets up the dark horse scenario where Padres really have to deal with the only team that matches Peavy's non-AL and Cali demands, the Dodgers).

Actually if they get rid of Peavy's long term contract they can pay him. peavy is due between 12 and 15M every year from now and 2012 and has I believe a 22M option in 2013. By freeing up that money they may be able to afford both A-Gone and Bell. :wink2:

The White Sox were ready to deal an elite pitching prospect in Aaron Poreda and a serviceable back-end rookie starter Clayton Richard -- along with Lance Broadway and Brent Lillibridge perhaps -- for the security of a front-line starter in Peavy. The deal didn't fall through because the Padres didn't like Poreda and Richard. Peavy apparently didn't like the White Sox, the AL or -- most important -- they wouldn't guarantee the last year of his current contract.

Gonzo is I know that. Seems like he's their only offense. Peavy, IMO, should go for a hitter and young pitcher.

Two young pitchers Regan, good young hitters are hard to acquire with a contract the Padres can afford, developing pitchers is better long term.

Gwynn Jr is doing well tonight...so far..

Maybe. But in this league you need Offense to succeed. Pitching can only carry you so far. Granted, you absolutely should develop pitchers but developing or even acquiring hitters give you so much more. Pretty much the reason Dodgers went for Manny. Trust me, I got tired of 1-0, 2-1, 2-0 losses past few years.

Brother I went to Thursday nights game behind home plate. Giles is done. Eckstein may not be hitting the world on fire, but he is doing an awful lot of other things for this team, which I would label priceless.

I think Gwynn Jr will be fine. The Padres organization needs to pull there head out on Giles in right.

i am glad Peavy is still here even if it for just a little longer. Some national league team will be getting a awesome pitcher who is a real down to earth person. The Padres need to ensure they get some real good players for the future, and not just for the sake of just trimmimg payroll either.:wink2: There are a lot of fans here looking for the new owner Jeff to make more changes in the organization from Top to bottom.

Probably a right fielder, pitching, and some youth as well.

To be quite honest with all that has been going on in my life I have finally had the time to start watching the Padres again. Going to Thursday night game was good for me. I got to see the Padres scratch there way back into the game, and see Tony Gwynn Jr. play, which was great. I went with my brother in law. If I had the money I would be back down there this weekend with the Cubbies in town.:yes:

I think we need another bat in the line up, and we could be competing better. I like the way Hariston, Gwynn, and Gonzalez have been hitting. I wish Macias could of stayed up rather then bringing Floyd off the DL. We will see how long they give Brian Giles to get going. He is doing better but still under .200

What amazes me is why teams are pitching to Gonzales. He is the only guy that can do damage and he still gets hittable pitches....crazy!:wink2:

Unless he's facing the Dodgers, I don't mind. All my fantasy teams with A-Gone are #1 in terms of HR's hit. :up:
