Personally, I like it for Jacksonville. The asking price for Manning was only going to go up based on each press release about his neck healing. Which I think it will, I don't think I'd ever bet against Manning. Plus if the Dolphins do sign Manning everyone will go nuts over him lol

 

Surround some talent around Manning in Jacksonville (another WR or two) and if he is healthy... you have to consider them to be a playoff contender. Not to mention they have a raw quarterback in Blaine Gabbert who could use the extra year or two to develop behind Manning.

 

Of course.. but if we included roster bonuses in our team salaries then I would have been releasing him. :lol:

Also, Manning with an elite RB and a good defense. He will have a chip on his shoulder as well and will play Indy twice a year. The motivation is there and he doesn't need to throw it 40 times a game. Watch out!

This was my thinking. Jacksonville isn't far off from being a playoff contender. Very good defense, special teams and a great RB. Immediate at QB was needed and the Jags got that with Manning. This move also allows Gabbert to develop behind on the best of all time and not learn any more bad habits. This isn't just a move that has the potential to help the next two seasons, but for the next 12.

Obviously there's a risk in taking a guy that missed last year with a neck injury, but for an early second (a pick that has a high fail rate), I thought it was worth the risk.

The Colts get a good deal too, getting a pick to the mix and a solid slot WR. I think it's a win-win for both sides.

Worst case scenario is he retire and I lose a second round pick. Not ideal but not the end of the world either.

Well debatable, depending on your need at the time of draft because there have been some excellent second rounders. Matt Light, Osi Umenyiora, Maurice Jones-Drew, Devin Hester. If you want to compare your pick #38 then we'd be looking at Flozell Adams, Boomer Esiason, Mike Singletary.

 

Valid point and it certainly is debatable. No. 38 overall pick since 2000 has had a track record of producing very solid, albeit not spectacular, starters.

So we're talking depth and consistency. Not ideal to lose that, but it's worth the gamble to me.

 

It is Peyton Manning, but when I was negotiating I used the Bret Favre trade to the Jets as a base, HOF QB leaving a team he established with questions and that was a conditional pick that turned out to be a 3rd rounder.

Now Favre from the Falcons to the Packers was a second rounder, but that was a young and raw Favre.

I wouldn't have gone any higher than a third myself with all the questions to be asked. It worked out for the Packers cause I think they flipped that 3rd with other pieces for #26, which got them Clay Matthews.
