Right now there are 10 teams with worse records than us:
1.) St. Louis Rams
2.) Detroit Lions
3.) Tampa Bay Bucs
4.) Kansas City Chiefs
5.) Cleveland Browns
6.) Washington Redskins
7.) Seattle Seahawks
8.) Oakland Raiders
9.) Buffalo Bills
10.) Chicago Bears

There are 5 teams including the Dolphins that are 7-8.
There are 7 teams including that are 8-7.

If the Dolphins Lose: They will be picking anywhere from 11 to 15. We will be picking 11th if we lose and every other team that is 7-8 wins. We will be picking 15th if we lose and every other 7-8 team loses. I am assuming we would get the 15th pick because we have played a really tough schedule and I am just going to assume we have the highest strength of schedule.

If the Dolphins Win: we could pick anywhere from 15 to 22. Basically assuming we win we would automatically be pushed to the back of the current 7-8 teams because of our strength of schedule regardless of whether they win or lose. Then it would depend on which of the 8-7 teams win and lose. None of the 8-7 teams play another 8-7 team; so hypothetically we could win and every 8-7 team could lose which (again depending on our strength of schedule) could result with us drafting with the 22nd pick.


MY PREDICTION:
Miami Loss: I think it will be a close game I just think the Steelers defense will be too much. Also give the Steelers an emotional edge after their win over Baltimore and their playoffs hope still alive.

Other Games:
TennesseeTitans beat the Seattle Seahawks
San Fran 49ers beat the St. Louis Rams
Jacksonville Jags beats the Cleveland Browns
TOSS-UP Carolina and the Saints. I think this game could go either way after the Bucs beat the Saints. Carolina is a better team than their record shows and could beat the slumping Saints. On the other hand the Saints don't want to go into the Playoffs with a losing streak. Ill give the win to the Saints though.

With all of those game predictions we would be picking 12th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft. If we do end up picking 12th you heard it here first!

 

If we were to pick #10 overall, then the selection at WR is limited. After Dez Bryant, I'm not sure I see any real impact players at that position. I'm with you that the WR position needs an overhaul. But availability is what it is.

Like I said in the other thread when you asked who I would be "giddy" for if they were available when we picked...I would be "giddy" about Dez Bryant, C.J. Spiller or Eric Berry. To me you get truly excited if a top 5 type talent falls to where you pick at #10 and those guys fit the bill as guys that have that type of talent, and *could* fall (as in, not totally inconceivable).

But if those three are gone, IMO you have to give serious thought to guys like Brandon Spikes, Rolondo McClain, Derrick Morgan, Corey Wootton (who for all I know, may play SOLB in this scheme), Jared Odrick, Marvin Austin, and Jermaine Gresham.

You might even give some thought to an offensive tackle like Anthony Davis or Bruce Campbell, stick them at Right Tackle and finally move Vernon Carey in to the interior where he has the potential to solidify our offensive line both from a talent, and from a leadership standpoint. He and Jake Long are best pals, I'm sure they'd be pretty stoked to work together full time as LT and LG, instead of just when we go unbalanced.

Justin Smiley really might be done as a Miami Dolphin.

 

if that is the case i hope we loss because we wont get in the playoffs even if we win IMO because the jags would make it over us and they wont loss to the browns so i hope we get a top 15 draft pick and hopfully we can get Dez Bryant

There are seven teams at 8-7. If we beat the Steelers our draft position could be severely affected. Could be anywhere from the 11th pick to the 22nd pick. Crazy!

 

Big Red - the way Soliai is showing up, I think it's lessening the need for a Dan Williams. With Ferguson's intention to play next season, I would think they will reverse their 2009 roles, with Fergie spelling Paul and let's be honest, Jason was performing at a high level when he was injured in Carolina.

 

I know Parcells talked to B.J. Raji about playing NT for us last year. However that was last year and Soliai has stepped up like you said. If Soliai is the answer at NT that would be fantastic. Gives us one less need to worry about. My only concern is if the 2011 DT class is as good as this one because even if Ferguson does play next year it would very likely be his last year.

 

I thought of Raji as needing a great deal of work to play the nose. Even at GB he was begun at end and only recently, if at all has he seen time at NT. Raji is very much a one gapper, who lacked the ability to play through contact. He could defeat his man if his motion was not inhibited, but otherwise he was not a powerful enough player to restart his movement and push the blocker backwards right away. Will Raji continue to grow, maybe, but he must get that fixed soon otherwise all his lateral agility will be used at end not the nose.

Raji would just now be showing signs of being capable, not ready to play that position. Raji was light years more polished than Soliai coming out.

 

That's all well and good but my point is the Dolphins were looking for a nose tackle last year. Maybe its no longer a need or a want like Boomer says but there are a number of very talented big men coming out this year.

Another thing that strikes me. Since we lost Ferguson the Dolphins have gone 2-3. Could just be a coincidence.

 

Gabe Watson or Darnell Dockett are guys I wouldn't mind.

 

Dockett's going to cost a lot of money but he has Jay Ratliff potential in terms of his size.

 

You're not going to get quality by being cheap.

I know its been brought up on these boards a bit, but has there been any noise from the team at all about going more to a 4-3?

I have to think the Rams will end up with the #1 overall. The big question, do they bite the bullet and go with ANOTHER DL in Suh (remember they have taken Carriker and Long recently) or do they go with the gaping hole in QB? Granted QB is iffy this year, but could Bradford, with a good offseason, go that high? Could Clausen step into that pick? I know many here dont like him, but scouts do seem to be high on him.

If a QB goes number 1 overall, I think that can really help a player like Berry or Bryant fall.

If you look at the teams currently above us and need for QB:

1.) St. Louis Rams - definite need
2.) Detroit Lions - no need
3.) Tampa Bay Bucs - no need
4.) Kansas City Chiefs - no need
5.) Cleveland Browns - likely need
6.) Washington Redskins - likely need
7.) Seattle Seahawks - need, but not pressing
8.) Oakland Raiders - need, but maybe not pressing if they like Bruce
9.) Buffalo Bills - Need, though Fitzp has played "OK"
10.) Chicago Bears - no need

If you can get Clausen and Bradford into 2 of those slots, thats 2 players that will fall a bit. Those chain reactions can really grow and let someone with top value hit us in a 10-15 spot. As much as I hate losing, it almost feels like a loss to the Steelers will help in the long run. Ending a season 0-3 is pretty sour though.

They scouted them, but not as much as other positions IIRC. I think CK broke it down last year in terms which positions received the most attention from us in terms of visits etc, so he may be able to dredge that up.

I wonder how much they will devote to it this year. They may very well invest in another defensive linemen in the middle rounds, someone who they can transition to the middle. We'll have to keep an eye on who they have spoken to etc. Hopefully CK will do another analysis like last year. It was pretty damn near the truth in terms of how the draft laid out.

Boom, what's your opinion on a guy like Philip Merling? He's gotten to where he's about a biscuit short of 300lbs now, so he still may be able to add on a bit more. He would seem to have the athleticism they like in their NT's, and he's probably improved his strength quite a bit the past few years. Can he be stout enough to make the transition?

 

Every time somebody says that I hear Wanny passing on Boldin for Eddie Moore.

Now I don't think McClain is Moore, but you don't pass on a core position for a non-core position and expect to get as big of an impact.

 

I agree with this. Those top three guys would make me "giddy", although I see Spiller as third and the guy with the highest potential to be a disappointment. McCain and Spikes would be next but they wouldn't result in a big impact to our SB chances next year. Everybody else would feel like settling unless one of the TEs made themselves worthy of a top 15 pick.

 

It would be nice to put a good power blocker next to Long and make it the "power" side of the OL, but I can't really see them moving Carey.

I agree with Smiley, though. He was never the most powerful in-line guy, but he's lost something after his injury last year, I think.

I can't imagine Joe Berger doesn't get a starting Guard spot though after his play for Grove.

 

And remember the more teams you tie with, a SoS is used to rotate each subsequent round.

So if we tie with 3 other teams @ 7-9 (equalling picks 11, 12, 13, 14 lets say) other teams and happen to have #11 in 1st round, we drop to #14 in 2nd round, than to #13 in 3rd, then to #12 in 4th, then back to 11th in 5th, etc, etc, etc...(or from 11 to 12, then 13, then 14, back to 11...cant remember, but its definately a rotation)

Same if we end up 8-8 and tie with others....each round rotates.

From a draft slot standpoint, the highest pick is to be the only 7-9 squad......the lowest pick is to be the only 8-8 squad or actually end up in SB (for locking 29th or 30th pick) :)
