It was alot of fun to watch the new scheme but I will be surprised if we use it every week. From what I got out of Coach S's comments, they have specific teams in mind to run this thing against. As it should be. Keep em guessing. Now they all have to prepare, but only a few will play against it.

 

I think it will be one of those things that they save for games where the offense is struggling and needs a spark! I think its a thing too where Sparano would love for teams to waste there time preparing for it and probably not seeing it.

 

Well, the thing is, as Sparano said, it's out there now...it's on film. Teams will prepare for it...whether or not it is used or if is works again [and I think it will be used, a lot] will depend on particular situations. We have the personnel offensively to make this work and work well. Not every team has that luxury. But the timing of it's use has to be figured out and against whom do we do it. I don't think it'll work well against quick pursuit type Ds, like maybe the Tampa 2 D's or the Philly's blitzkrieg D.
However, with the right timing of it's use, it can be effective to open up the D a little, particularly if they are stacking the box too much...

But the fact is that it's out there, on film and someone will come up with a defense against it...

 

Then there is the question, "What plays will be run from this formation?".

I think I agree with an above poster that we should save this formation for rough times. I think we can still move the ball with traditional methods as we did last week against NE. The Wildcat just busted the game open.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle. You have to have balls to win championships, and that involves innovative trendsetting when you need, combined with the ability to dominate on D and control the clock.

 

Its weird, but I'm starting to get sick of the media's obsession with the wildcat story. Dont get me wrong, it was brilliant playcalling by our coaches but the fact of the matter is we kicked their butts for 4 entire quarters up and down the field, offense and defense. Take those six plays out and we still kick their butts up and down the field. The media makes it seem as if the only reason we beat them is because of that scheme

I think it takes skill, talent, hardwork & a bit of luck to win championships.

As far as the package itself goes I hope that we don't see it used in every game. I would love to see us winning using this package but if we do it too much people will come to expect it and I think that's what the beauty of it is.

On the analysis of the wildcat formation on NFL.com they say that the unbalanced line gives us more guys on the right side of the line with Long and Fasano blocking in unusual spots. With Ricky motioning over to the right side they have to respect him because he can run it. The issue is that Ronnie can also do the same thing just as well if not better.

We have a PB caliber RB and one that IMO should be a pro bowl caliber RB so it works for us because the thought is "who do you cover?".

If the cover 3 fails (like it did on sunday) and the corner comes up hard to respect the run you're leaving that deep third of the field open behind him for that pass play that worked.

If teams expect it though they'll find a way to stop it.

 

I doubt we will use it that much ever again. Maybe a couple times as a feint. It won't work as well again.

As I said earlier, that play is what busted the game open for us. I still think we would have won without using the play.

Ted Ginn's speed has got to be exploited in MULTIPLE WAYS using this "package"

 

Man that is so damn sweet. The biggest thing that article does it tell the NFL he's got confidencec in his team to excecute. The staff has intelligence on what works. And most importantly, that his players will buy into what he's selling. HAving them believe in the coach is huge, and that win and that article just proved it to me.

This team is in the right direction finally, for once we will get to see some good football

 

IMO, the single-wing or "Wildhog" formation will still work because there are several plays and since the opposition has not seen them before, they will not be able to gameplan against it. I think that we will continue to use it (not full time, sporadically) as long as we continue to develop new plays in the formation.

Regarding Sparano's comments, I like how he's mum on everything. He doesn't say much other than the simple or expected stuff. Reminds me of Parcells in his press conferences, without the *****ing.

As for Ginn on offense, he has to continue to improve every aspect of his game before he can be a real contributor for us. I'm not sure we can do anything with him right now other then in the single-wing formation.

I don't understand why the journalist is surprised by this number but it is definitely not good. Against the Patriots, Cassel didn't do much because of the pass rush but when there wasn't any, he was able to go downfield. Fortunately for the Dolphins, he didn't see the open receivers (i.e. on his fumble later in the game, he had a TE open downfield for a TD). We have to figure out a way to lower that number. Put five DB's back there like I said before. :up:

 

there not gimmick plays bro, there simple plays that are executed beautifully, were using our imagination and theres nothing wrong with that, its part of football.

 

That play is the option of options. They can run it with the same players or switch it up with new players. That play really does have about 15 solid ways to run it....

I don't know about the rest of use guys, but dat option ting we got running dere is hard to stop. We'ze should let Ronnie Brown be our option quarterback at least half the game, and when dey cheat on Ronnie he can lateral it across the field to Pennigton who can then heave it downfield to Ginn and Bess. :up:

I agree with this. The basic play we were running wasn't gimmicky the way a statute of liberty or double reverse is. It was power football. Ronnie took the snap and either handed off to Ricky going wide or kept it and followed the pulling Smiley between Carey and Long.

It does look tough to execute, because the snap has got to reach Ronnie just before Ricky does for the option to be effective. They did it perfectly last Sunday.
