Is this the week we open it up?
Wouldn't surprise me if this was the game the coaches have been saving it for...
The Jets D is getting schooled this week on how to shut it down and stop us from running.....would be a perfect time to add some new wrinkles

I think we open up the Wildcat this week, no matter who the opponent is. I believe we have not yet attempted one pass out of the Wildcat yet this year. Pat White threw one ball out of the spread, but that wasn't the Wildcat.
Also, we haven't seen extensive use of the "Pat Package" spread formation yet.dolfan7171 and jetssuck like this. -
I cant wait to see what we do on National TV against the stinking Jets. I hope we are the talk of the football world after this game! I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Ravens did not stop the wildcat .It was their talent vs our talent that defeated us.
The Jets dont have the players on that defense equivalent to those of the Ravens .
Having said that I think our base offense should be enough to take care of them.We may be saving the wildcat for a better opponent. The Aqua Crush, vt_dolfan, first&goal and 3 others like this. -
1. This is a must win game. We lose this, there is no shot at the playoffs. This is a division game and it would be huge to notch another win for us and another loss for the Jets.
2. Our Pass protection. Our blitz pick up was awful against Buffalo. We let up 6 sacks and Henne fumbled twice. We are going to need to do some wrinkles to keep that defense guessing. The Jets blitzes are very complex and it is a lot to ask out of Henne in only his second game to recognize all of these blitzes. Especially if guys like Collins, Brady, and Brees struggled a bit.
3. Our Run Game wont be as effective. The jets know we run the ball very well. Therefore we are going to need to do things to prevent them from constantly stacking the box. Keep them offset with the WildPat offense so they arent stacking the box every down.jetssuck likes this. -
Did White even get in the game last week? I mean other then the last couple hand offs... -
I think it will be nip/tuck at the beginning with both teams looking to jump out in front. I see Sparano as being reticent to break out the wildcat unless we're far ahead or far behind.
-
Pat White will soon become our 3rd QB.
Thigpen is the only QB to run, pass and catch a TD.
He will be lining up in the WR postion in the Wildcat and in the "QB" position if needed. Both things that Pat White cannot do. -

I wanna see the Wild Pat package already

I also disagree about not being able to run well. The Bills knew we ran well also. Nothing changes this week except for the opponents we have to execute against. In fact, if Henne is adept enough to audible at the line, their defense is very susceptible to the run on the opposite side of the over load blitz. -
How can Pat White even be a good Wildcat QB when he isnt that quick/fast to make something happen? Also its not like he has the body to withstand hits from the defensive line or Linebackers so I'm not really sure what he can do in the Wildcat.
-
Just what are you basing your thoughts on? Surely not the fact that Pat White has only been on the field of play 8 times in 4 games. -
-
The Ravens stopped the Wildcat because they didn't sit back and hesitate after the snap. They had a plan and they executed it. Being aggressive is the key.

got to go with the WildCat & unleash Pat White
he needs reps to find his comfort zone
Rex seems to think he has the answer for the system
excellent time to try some variations on the same theme -

You guys are setting yourselves up for disappointment. I really don't think we're gonna use the wildcat a very much this week. It's usually successful against teams that struggle to stop the run. The Jets aren't one of those teams. I highly doubt we are basing a majority of our gameplan around wildcat-ing them.

The WildCat this year...will run on anyone...just line em up...and run em over.
-
The Bills stacked the box and dared Henne to beat them. Henning countered by not running the ball between the tackles and not having Henne throw the ball disproprtionately. We ran sweeps and we ran the Wildcat. We peppered in some conservative throws. And we were successful in getting large chunks of yards. I expect the same thing on MNF.EdSta74, jetssuck, Hexonx and 1 other person like this. -
the WC will not have any new wrinkles until we get someone that can do them ... its that simple. PW just isn't ready at this point to do it ... maybe Thigpen is ... guess we'll see; but i do believe this was one of the reasons we picked him up. Thigpen actually has NFL experience, PW does not. Thigpen could take over if Henne got hurt ... PW could not.
RBs quickness is a threat in the WC, not his arm ... if the JESTS have a stout DL, then we will be challenged to have sustained success with the WC against them ... same problem we had against the BAL last year. The good news is that our OL is better this year, by actually getting a push up the middle ... which is huge as compared to last year. The main difference between the BAL and NYJ defenses, is size ... JESTS are undersized -- which should work in our favor by the 2nd half if we continue to pound them.djphinfan likes this. -

Why do we need to open up the wildcat? This makes no sense to me, it's been more effective at yards per attempt than last year. The only reason you would need to try other plays from it is if it's not working and it needs misdirection.
So far it has worked great, with one exception, when the snaps are going directly to Pat. Pat looks abysmal in the wildcat, you need to be confident in your decisions or and hesitation will result in a broken play. Until Pat is comfortable in a regular game and has confidence he shouldn't touch the wildcat.
I really doubt we see anything really exotic this week. We should be able to beat the Jets from our base formation and our regular wildcat offense. I don't think there is a d in teh league that can shut down our run blocking o line, TE's, and Lou. They get holes opened up for ronnie and ricky and well they take care of the rest.
My take, if the wildcat isn't broke, don't fix it, and it's clearly not broke. -
no it needs wrinkles simply because the defense stacks the box against it, and doesn't view the pass as a real threat. we would be more successful, if it were mult-dimensional ... hence the reason we drafted PW.
just think how many more yards RB (or anyone) could get if he had wide open lanes to run through. -
"Dolphins opened the media portion of practice with a couple of Wildcat plays. Ronnie Brown passed deep to Joey Haynos and Pat White hit Brian Hartline out by the left sideline. Tony Sparano turned and clapped loudly four times, and that was it for the Wildcat. (This also probably means there will be no Wildcat passes on Monday night. Dolphins haven't completed a Wildcat pass in their last 16 real games, dating to Week 5 last year and the Pennington-to-Cobbs flea flicker against the Texans. "

Gish, they way its setup right now, i dont think anyone can consistently stop it. Ronnie and the oline are just to good, to big, to strong, to advanced, and to determined.
Like i said before, monday nite and Rex ryan is the last great hope for the ones who still think its some sort of gimmick and that scheme can stop it...
We dont care if you put 9 in the box anymore, we can get it done, and wear you out doing so..
It has no celiing, many levels to explore, and as long as ronnie brown is a miami dolphin, we will be going there.jetssuck likes this. -
All I know is if I hear "Happy Birthday Wildcat!", one more time, I am gonna scream.
-
I cant wait to see this formation in cold weather playoff games. -
"Bigger, sharper teeth" this year
Also you're dead on in saying that the new wrinkles are required to keep it fresh. Keeps it effective.
Another thing I might add is the need for an adequate number of repetitions........the more times you run it, the better chance you break a big play. The Wildcat is like Barry Sanders. Out of a dozen tries, you may get shut down and even lose a few yards but you'll also get plays of 7, 12 and 20+ yards.
Those times it got shut down we helped them by giving up on it after it failed to produce on three plays. -
Ronnie brown in this formation, is as safe and effective, as any play we have in our playbook.jetssuck likes this.
