With Miami's offensive line now struggling to protect the passer (in addition to continually failing to create running lanes) a very mobile Thigpen is likely the best fit, since he can elude the rush fairly well, can throw well on the run and can scramble for significant yardage.
Not saying he's on his way to comeback player of the year honors or anything (though it would be nice) but it's definitely a silver lining of sorts.
P.S. Ironically, Henne put up what was arguably one of his best quarters of football prior to going down in yesterday's game. In the third quarter, Henne was 8 of 10 with 93 yards and a TD pass. He also drove the team down the field before consecutive penalties helped stall the drive which led to a field goal, giving him a total of 10 points in the quarter.
It would have been nice to see him build on those numbers (he finished the day with 240 passing yards on 19 of 28 passing) but that just wasn't in the cards. And now, depending on the severity of his injury, there's a good chance that he'll be shelved for the remainder of the season.
And regardless of what your opinion of Henne has been up until this point, it's hard to argue with the idea of drafting a QB in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft (unless Thigpen pulls of some sort of MVP-like run).
Henne's plateau in 2010 coupled with this injury make him too much of a risk. This regime simply can't put all of it's eggs in Henne's basket.

I find it rather easy to argue against the idea of spending a 1st round pick in the 2011 draft on a quarterback.

you never know about the draft or free-agency, that's all about tomorrow not today
today, last time I looked, we were still in the hunt for a play-off birth.

We have no shot at the first two QB's in the draft...Luck and Locker....and there is no other QB in the draft remotely worth spending a first round pick on...so the draft a QB in round one of 2011 is beyond a pipe dream -

I'm hoping I'm misinterpreting that, but if not... man, that is just low, and cold.MarinePhinFan and Killerphins like this. -
I would also point out that with the 3rd string Qb in the game, the Oline played fine, no penalties to speak of, on that 86 yd drive. -

Friend vt_Dolphin:
1) you never know about the draft. trade up, trade down, look amongst the acorns, good scouting, who knows? we'll find another prospect. what if someone like Vic suddenly appears on the horizon? you just never know. or if Thigpen suddenly takes off?
2) I'm on the record prior to this event stating Thigpen was the better starter over the hen. the sky has fallen on Chicken Little, yes Chad the Lesser has been carefully measured & found wanting. He is not the answer. in Parcells departing words: " Henne is a disappointment".
3) just maybe we can still pull this season out, its not over yet. hope remains in Dolfandom.. Thursday we win & move forward, and one way or the other no nore excuses. it is what it is, time to play ball -

I know that you're popular on here and that you have a strong following, but I'll need a bit more substance than that, especially since a lot of folks would say that it's rather easy to argue for the idea of spending a first round pick on a quarterback.
For example, let's start with an easy one beyond Henne's status:
-Miami hasn't used a first-round pick on a quarterback in nearly 30 years, and the last time they did, they landed one of the greatest QBs of all time and a guy that was entrenched in the position for nearly two decades (as opposed to the merry-go-round we've had for the last decade).Aqua4Ever04 likes this. -
Maybe Henne does a 180 next year and learns how to threaten a 2 deep zone and loses his fear of throwing to guys who aren't "grand canyon" wide open, but how can you say that it would be an easy argument not to spend a high draft pick on another QB, if for no other reason than just to hedge your bets? I'm seeing more worrisome signs from Henne than magic. I'm seeing a QB who's regressing into a shell week by week. I'm seeing an offense turn into something that other teams openly mock after whipping our tales because they knew what our QB would do before he did it.
To not invest highly into another QB at this point would be bordering on gross negligence by the front office. They don't have to "give up" on Henne to hedge their bets.gunn34, TheMageGandalf and hugoguzman like this. -

Recall the timeouts in the first qtr yesterday?
To me that is a case of Qb's being out of rhythm. -
I've been a Henne supporter for some time, but QB is the most important position in the NFL by far. I'm all for giving Henne more of an opportunity in 2011, but I feel that they must draft some talent as well. Best case scenario is that Henne ascends and the rookie QB is also solid. Then you have that Charger-like scenario (two good QBs) which would be a welcome departure from what the franchise has been putting up with for the past decade or so. -
Matter of fact, Henne was 8 of 10 for nearly 100 yards and a TD in the third quarter of yesterday's game when he got injured. That sounds like some pretty good rhythm to me. -

You play Thigpen, let Henne rest up, and see how Thigpen does. If he has even just a solid game, you stay the course. If Henne can come back after the Bears, I think it all depends on how well Thigpen is playing. Swapping out a hot Thigpen for Henne, especially with what's sounding like a division within the locker room is just asking for trouble. Keep him ready to go and step in if Thiggy falters though... assuming he's healthy of course. -
However, to my eye Henne goes on streaks when he is in rhythm, when he is not believing what he is seeing that is when he falls out of rhythm.
That is why he is a streaky Qb, that and the playcalls I bet are catching the defense in package favorable to what Henne does well.
For example, what if the titans came out in a Jumbo run stopping package in the second half, and we caught them with a 3 Wr set?hugoguzman likes this. -
I will buy every member of this forum a 6 pack of beer, including Alen, if we draft a QB in the first round!! (yes, I'll contribute to the delinquency of a minor )
fine print: provided Henne doesn't have a career ending injury -
Friend SeanP: would never wish bad on anyone, especially a Miami Dolphin player or fan:no:never, never, never
having said that I have QB several predictions to make:
Pennington will move into a coaching position, chicken little will go away & Thigpen will remain.
we will be in the market for: 1) QB 2) RB 3) pro-bowl potential Center to anchor the line next year.
meanwhile
lets finish out the season get a decent look @ Thigpen & make the play-offs
we can still contend in 2010. all I'm interested in is winning nowSeanP likes this. -
I'd like to see Thigpen start Thursday night. Even if Henne says he can go, I bench him. Give him some rest, a knee isn't a thing you want to test out prematurely. If he's healthy though, he should be starting over Thigpen. -

And only time I saw Fasano frustrated with Henne was when Henne was frustrated with him, as he threw a pass that Fasano didn't even see.NJFINSFAN1, ToddsPhins and vt_dolfan like this. -
i think we should really push for a qb free agent move this offseason if henne remains a risk due to injury or inconsistency... i would like to think that the eagles will keep and be willing to pay one of their two qbs and which ever one they dont keep i would be more than happy to see with us.

2. For Tyler Thigpen to be the come back player of the year he has to have been there at some point. The guy is 1-10 as a starter for Christ sake. -
Admittedly I loved Pennington's Efficiency, sort of like watching a great control pitcher in baseball.
However, Henne is borderline NOT my cup of tea from his "game" standpoint, big armed Qb should be using his big arm to make plays, however if he starts, and wins games, call me a Henne Fan.hugoguzman likes this. -
You know what I would like to see from Henne once or twice... I'd like to see him rip his receivers a new *** when they run the wrong or lazy routes. I think he is too passive at times.TheMageGandalf likes this.
