The whispers about us passing altogether on QB at 5. I virtually dismissed this at first. But lately, the whispers are getting louder.
I know people on this board and on Twitter have floated this in their own personal mocks. Now, if I think that if Stephen Ross called these people today and said, "I want you to be our GM this weekend," I think that these people would eventually decide to take a QB at 5. There is just too much of a risk in passing this up.
Kevin O'Leary from Shark Tank likens in to a dog with a bone in his mouth who drops it into a lake to look for something better. Well, the dog eventually sees nothing better around him, and much to his chagrin, realizes his bone has sunk to the bottom of the lake.
Honestly, if Jordan Love is the guy, take him at 5. If you are right, and he is the guy, nobody will care when he was selected. Here is the thing about getting cute. In order to think that you can do something like this, you have think something else altogether. You would have to think that the Dolphins are significantly smarter than every other team in the league. They see Love as the second/third best quarterback, and literally nobody else does. First of all, I definitely do not think we are even on the top half of the league in terms of intelligence. Second of all, if we are right about Love, that probably means a few other teams are hip to that as well. If Love starts slipping, they could move up and snatch him out from under us.
Picking a QB at five means we essentially control our own fate.

I haven't heard anyone saying that. At all. Okay, ETA: I heard someone say Gil Brandt said it. Other than him, I haven't heard anyone saying it and I don't believe it.

I think if we go off every rumour that's existed in the last 3 weeks then we're taking every single player at #5 then go on to #18 where we're going to draft every other player and then finish the first round by drafting the rest of the remaining players. It's the nonsense season and the next three weeks will be filled with people claiming that they were right and that their sources were perfect or that they were wrong but that's only because there was a last-minute change of direction or that the room was split. Most of these people will be making it up.. They were making it up when they posted it originally and they'll then hope to spin this correct guess into getting some legit sources to continue their streak.

They are likely debating the value of trading back into the 9-13 range and evaluating a scenario where both players are valued....kinda like would rather have Wills/Love or Tua/Jones/28th pick.........in the end it feels like business as usual at the draft and that end ups with Tua and OT3 or OT4 if they don't trade up. Personally I think it is far more likely they trade out of 26 of they can find a trade partner and there is someone there of great value for a team like Indy or da Raida's.......

I doubt it. No one back there would give enough to make it worthwhile. -

Thank You, Sir, for your consideration - and apologies to those who were bored. It wasn't always fun, but it was very seldom boring.Attached Files:

ANDREW THOMAS, T GEORGIA
Pro Football Network's Tony Pauline reports the Dolphins are expected to pick Georgia OT Andrew Thomas with the No. 5 overall pick if he's available and they don't take a quarterback.
In Pauline's report from Monday, a source close to Dolphins owner Stephen Ross tells Pauline that Ross is "talking as though Justin Herbert is not in the team’s plans with the fifth overall pick," so it's either going to be a position player -- Pauline reports it would be Thomas -- or Tua Tagovailoa. Thomas is widely viewed as the top tackle in this draft, slightly ahead of the other three in the "big four." If the Dolphins take Thomas, the belief would be they'd try to trade up for Utah State QB Jordan Love with their other two first-rounders. Thomas, of course, could go before the Dolphins even pick at No. 5, considering the Giants are believed to be eyeing a tackle at No. 4.

The Three Yards Per Carry guys are pretty convinced that the #5 is Tua and not Herbert. If Tua is gone or they get wet feet over the medicals, then it's probably either Thomas or Wills with Jordan Love being selected later and that they are very high on him.
However, if that is the case, there is absolutely no way that they try and ride it out. That's getting way to cute - they will try and trade up at that point, mentioning the Cards, Jags, Browns and Niners as logical spots.
Ultimately, I don't think it out of the realm of possibility, but the safe bet is still on Tua. -
If theyre going to choose a quarterback at 5 its going to be Herbert, should he fall and if theyre sold on him.. if not i can definitely see them passing on quarterback and taking BPA. the overall BPA talent wise, skill wise on this draft is not quarterback, in my opinion... that will be next year with Lawrence.. but if they take Herbert, a guy that has all the physical tools, then i dont blame them.. he needs the mental aspect of the game to turn on though.. everything else you cant deny the skills.
I get the feeling that years from now, we are gonna look back at this draft and think, Jeudy, Simmons, Chase, or some other defensive/offensive linemen was the best player on the draft. -
Thomas at #5 or trade down into the 10-15 range if we find a willing trade partner would be the best options in my opinion. I have completely ruled out either Tua or Herbert at #5, Tua is too high of an injury risk and Herbert is a bust in the making with many flaws in his game. -

Now reports of the Fins trading up to 3 for Andrew Thomas. I don't care what happens during the draft (Lies), Grier has played a blinder at getting out misinformation.

Man, I sure hope this is just smoke:
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Dolphins are gauging the price to trade up for the No. 3 overall pick for an offensive tackle.
Trading up to the No. 3 overall pick entails swapping with the Lions, who are reportedly "high" on Auburn DT Derrick Brown. Having said that, jostling to nab an offensive tackle makes little sense for the Dolphins, who hold three picks (No. 5, No. 18, No. 26) in the first round. Assuming Giants GM Dave Gettleman has his sights set on one player in particular, Rapsheet's scenario (if true) means the Dolphins covet that one individual even more. Washington is also still "listening" to offers for both Trent Williams and the No. 2 overall pick, and the Giants have made it known they wouldn't mind dropping back to collect more picks, as well. Buckle up.

Think I figured out what's going on.
Grier's just getting a pulse. He's talking to Detroit and NY and getting asking prices for the move up. No other team has the draft capital that we do or is as close as we are to both picks. So, if both teams are asking for a king's ransom and he knows if they wouldn't do it, then it's likely no one else will either.
The pick is Tua and they're just making sure he's gonna be there at #5 so they don't have to move up to get him.Surfs Up 99 likes this. -
Not a bad call although Jackson was OT5......also apparently they did try and trade back to SF spot to take Wirfs but could not get it done.

I was getting a little giddy when Lamb started to fall but Dallas got a hell of a pick from a value perspective.
