When I thought it was injury related it didn’t bother me as much. After the game we find out it wasn’t. My thoughts are let him take the L and keep getting snaps. If he needs to be babied he isn’t ready. I don’t know, I didn’t like it.

I mean...you have to give your team the best possible chance to win every week. Tua had a tough day and Flores tried to give a spark to the offense, which in my opinion is what a coach should do. It keeps everyone honest by doing that.
The bigger question is what Tua does tomorrow- is he the lion or the gazelle? The latter doesn't often get a 2nd chance so let's hope that he's the lion.Irishman, Puka-head, ripper1961 and 1 other person like this. -
All it does it create confusion and division in the locker room in my opinion. Bad move by Flores.

So I do think Flores pulled him partly to protect him. Let him recover from whatever it is and get back to developing into a potentially great QB. Besides, if Tua can't handle adversity he's not the QB we're looking for, and this really isn't much adversity when he's already been named the starter for the next game.
I think Flores did the right thing, and no I don't think it will lead to locker room issues.Irishman, Mexphin, resnor and 1 other person like this. -

Tua was having a lot of trouble identifying pressure and making the right OL adjustments. It’s part of being a rookie. He couldn’t get the job done because the Denver pass rush scheme fooled him and prevented him from making plays.
Fitzpatrick being a grizzled vet was able to handle the Denver pass rush scheme and make plays.
As long as Tua learns and adjusts it’s one of those Ls you have to accept because you have a rookie you believe in as your starting QB. If he can’t learn and adjust see: Rosen, Josh.Last edited: Nov 22, 2020Irishman, ripper1961, thetylernator and 1 other person like this. -
Anyway, isn't that Flores' mantra? Best player plays? He doesn't care much for draft status, rookie/vet, salary, etc. The guy who plays well gets the reps.
It's a learning moment for Tua. -
Sounds like I picked the best game for the feeds to go down on me. Only saw up to end of first quarter. Was Tua really that bad? Will catch up later on NFL Replay. Or perhaps not.
-
In fact you could make the argument that Tua might be better off sitting for the rest of the year until the line can get more experience and better skilled position players can be acquired. Right now he's a sitting duck.thetylernator likes this. -
Tua had a bad day and was replaced. Not the end for him, all he can do is learn from it.

Im no fan of Tua, ive said it several times already. He has shown some stuff the previous two games that made me think okay, this guy is a gamer..
but then theres yesterday, where he just looked completely overwhelmed.. he looked like Pat White out there..
i am not sure what if anything we will learn about Tua this season, and we probably wont know much until year 3... but im afraid he is a game manager at best.
with that said, he should have finished the game out yesterday and take the loss at the chin. -
No problem with it. He was ineffective and the O-line was getting rag-dolled most of the game. I just wish they had gone to Fitzpatrick a series earlier. Tua will be fine, mentally and on the field. Some games you're just going to take your lumps.

I'll say it again -- you could make a good case for sitting him the rest of the year under these circumstances. What we saw yesterday doesn't have much of a chance of improving in my opinion. In fact it could get worse.RevRick likes this. -

I dont know if his foot was or wasnt hurt, but as to evading sacks:
He basically uses the exact same move almost every time, which is stepping up inside the right tackle and outside the guard. There is tape now and Denver always had someone filling that gap.Irishman likes this. -

I just watched the game again. No, the sky is not falling even though the clouds may be hanging a bit low right now. However, there is really no way I can sugarcoat the fact that he was just terrible in this game. No accuracy, no pocket presence in being able to take those few steps up or side to side to evade pressure, no ability to push the ball downfield, no stature, no flashes, he looked small, played small, etc.
With that said, he is a rook and it happens. He's a hard worker and I expect him to improve. I hope. -
I've already said it a few times in other threads...benching Tua was the right thing to do. There's nothing to it. He was having a horrible game...HORRIBLE! Benching Tua yesterday is NO DIFFERENT than a manager going out to the mound and pulling his starting pitcher after the opposing team gets base hit after base hit followed by a homerun and walking 2 players in a row. He's not a bad pitcher; he's having a bad game! Time to go to the bullpen. That's what Flores did yesterday, he went to the bullpen.
And lets be completely honest here, In Tua's 3 previous wins, his only true flash of great quarterback play was against the Cardinals. He didn't play GREAT against the Rams nor the Chargers. It was the TEAM that won those games! The defense beat the living CRAP out of the Rams and set Tagovailoa up for success...as they did against the Chargers. That TEAM effort was completely absent in yesterday's game, to include Tua.
I guarantee you Tagovailoa, coming from the consummate professional organization that is the Alabama Crimson Tide beat the crap out of himself on the flight last night and will bounce back just fine, just as he did under Saban.Irishman, Hiruma78, RevRick and 1 other person like this. -

It was warranted, he was playing like garbage.
That said, the offensive gameplan and the OL did him absolutely no favors. The OL looked like a Gase special and Gailey ... I don't know what he was trying to do, but he didn't seem to anticipate Denver actually rushing the passer and forcing the issue without letting Tua take 5+ seconds to throw. The lack of screens, quick passes, reverses and misdirection was just bad. -
I wonder if the accepting the Tua benching runs along the older crowd such as me, growing up I saw all great QBs take a seat until Marino I think, but look at Bradshaw, Staubach, Stabler, etc.....they were in and out of the starting lineups all their first several years. But last couple a decades the thinking has change....either you got it or you don't.

And as I recall, Marino was benched a game or two himselfRonnie Bass likes this. -
