Shouldn't we expect with such a pivitol position on the line, and with no offseason to install the offense, that Pounce would be better off at guard, and Cogs at center??
How does that look to you?, is it the best way to get the best players on the field at the sametime?
Pouncey next to Jake....hmmmm..That does sound pretty cool..
You gotta think guard is easier to play than center, we saw some flashes at center from Cogs, maybe this is something that we should really think about..
What would the new ''orca 5'' look like?
Can we expect a rookie with just a camp under his belt, start at center?
-
I would rather him play at guard regardless of the lockout
-
Would love to see him at Lg Deej, and let Garner/Jerry/Barbre/Feinga/Berger duke it out for RG.
Now that is something else no one really is thinking about, what if Berger stays at C, Pouncey plays LG and Richie I to RG?
Garner can fight it out with Carey and Murtha for RT. -
Why would anyone prefer that a 1st round draft pick at such an important and difficult position as Center would end up having to move to Guard when it's all said and done? Don't get it one bit. Guards are MUCH easier to find than top Centers. I understand Dj's view that for his first year and the possible loss of TC time leading up to the season that it may be better to temp. use Pouncey at Guard but long term if he stays at guard I'd personally consider the pick as a failed one.djphinfan likes this. -
Mike has played one season his entire life at center, so obviously we should stick him at such a important and difficult position where he has a lot of issues, especially with snapping to shotgun. Luckily Henne prefers to be under center.

If our offensive linemen don't have enough time, then the whole NFL season or at least the beginning of it is going to be NFL Europa quality football. This is one of the lesser worries, especially with our player-coach being an offensive linemen.

That said, I want him at center. Let him play from where he is going to play from the start.

Brian Daboll is one of the guys who does occasionally have the Center pull, but it'll be loads less frequently than he did in Florida. -

Dpate..question for ya..You mention that you think both positions are equally important..you mean that?..One would think that the center position would require the more diverse skillset?..
Why do I have memories of Cognitos first start against detroit?,..We ran the sh%$ out of the ball right up the middle against a great line, and he was moving people, like I heard Boomer say one time, it was like a reverse triangle thru the game with him there....It was a vivid analogy..So I take it you would have no problem starting him at guard?
I'am gonna watch that game and isolate Richie against that beast to see if we need to get them both on the field at their personal best positions, maybe it would be wise to do that if Cogs has real ability there? -
Man there's a lot of competition going down when camp does start.. -
I don't think he was good as people remember vs. Detroit, which isn't a great run defending line, either.RoninFin4 likes this. -
As for Pouncey, some folks worry he has only 1 year at center at Florida. How many years at LG did he have? None. He was a RG before being moved to C. So, if ya'll want him playing the position he is most experienced at, between C and LG, it is definitely C. -
Which means there could be a "competition" for about a week then who is a Starter and who is not will be really clear, if they want to see Pouncey more then he will be rotated in early in the season. And I do like Richie I at Center especially with the huge NT's we see in the AFCE. -
Then you don't know the game as well as you may think you do.
There are added intricacies required of the Center position v.s. Guard that require different intangibles. Intangibles that aren't found at will. It's why top Centers are harder to find than talented Guards. IMO if the skills one position requires are harder to find than another then it in fact makes the position more valuable. You honestly going to tell me that QB isn't one of if not the most valuable position on the field?
