Genius and insanity are bedfellows... keep that in mind. Since we cannot protect the QB perhaps it's time for a radical innovation.
If a QB can take a shotgun snap far back from the center, why not create a formation where the QB is even FURTHER back, like 15 yards behind the Line of Scrimmage.
This is stupid. This is insane. This may be the only way opposing players do not sack or pressure Tannehill on every damn play. I call it the NavyGun because you're farther away and fire long distances.
What would this formation look like?
Well, the QB stands 15 yards behind the Longsnapper, who is probably the best player on our team anyways. Incognito is LG, McKinnie LT. Puncey moves to RG. Martin is RT.
This offense doesn't have any real use for runningbacks, which fits Mike Sherman's no-run philosophy perfectly. So we get rid of all the runningbacks. We simply roster the maximal number of WRs, TEs and players at any position who used to be WRs.
This formation and the offensive scheme we run through it also gives the QB the green light to use his legs as often as he wants to run for a gain.
Would it work? I have no clue at all. But the extra 0.5 seconds this would buy Tannehill, and the angle for him to roll left or right and throw, or the angle to tuck and run left or right would help.
Ladies and gentlemen.

Hmm, that puts a lot of pressure put on the snapper considering one mistake would be catastrophic. Not to mention you would need 2x the velocity to throw a 10yd in for example....wich also means the ball is in the air THAT much longer. May not be much but the NFL is truely a game of inches.
Sad we even have to explore this as fans. -

Well at least this Navy "Gun" didn't require Maynard getting in a bucket. Again...:shifty:
maynard and MikeHoncho like this. -

Although hey, maybe this offense would work since it only uses two Olinemen.

And whatever he saw there he'd **** it.... -
If the Bears would have put Hester in this formation and just let him freelance. They would have one more Superbowl.

I think it would just give the defensive linemen an extra few steps to get more force into their sacks and hits, Tannehill still wouldn't have enough time to throw and Wallace wouldn't be open anyways.

Do you really want to take Pouncey out of the game?

Apparently my email has been hacked again. "Oh yeah. We'll fix that right up for you sir. Just give us your password."

I like it, fax it to Philbin.

Get a grip guys...we are 3-3. At 3-8 maybe we can put it on the table.

I would expect a lone tailback a common wrinkle of design.
Lined up still a couple yards aft of Tanny, a safety valve for that occasional need, to get the rock back to the LOS, and avoid huge losses in the backfield, along with that equally occasional snap that gets away.
...WAY over Tanny's head! -
I bet we fumble about 3 times a game with all those long snaps. But at least Tannehill doesn't get sacked.
