Pass. Seems like he lost his touch in the past few years and I wouldn't be shocked if he just chooses to retire.

After hearing a recent interview from Shanahan where he said he studies the game more then ever. Seeing what he did with RG3, I don't have any doubt in my mind, hes not your typical old stuck in his ways coach.

 

I pass. I think he will be 70 years old soon. He was great and had we selected him after he was let go from JAX, it would have been great.

Coughlin is as old fashioned as he is old. His style of coaching is headed towards the direction of the dinosaur. He had a good run, but his time has passed.

 

I don't know about that. He's done a pretty good job with minimal talent. His team was consistently competing all year, despite having three talented players. One of whom, has only one hand now. Of the 10 losses the Giants had, 8/10 L's were by a TD or less and 5/10 by a FG points or less. I thought TC did a pretty solid job, overall tbh. I don't think the NYG have much talent. As a bonus, no one beats Belichick w/the consistency of Tom Coughlin. In addition to 2 SB wins, he also took an expansion franchise to 2 AFCCG and a winning season in Jax's 2nd year of existence.


My point is, Tom Coughlin can coach his *** off. He's done it in two different eras. He's old, but it doesn't appear the game has passed him by. And he still has the passion for the game and wants to coach. I'm not saying he's on top of my short list, but Miami could do far worse than TC.

 

I like Coughlin and feel that he's a GREAT coach, but in this day and age with players all about individuality, with his age he's looked at as an old man and doesn't garner the respect that he's not only entitled to, but has EARNED!!!

Two Super Bowl Championships, both against the Patriots, ending the Patriots' perfect season. Hell, even in Jacksonville, he took an expansion team to the AFC Championship in their second season!

Coughlin is a GREAT coach and I would be all for it, but for some reason, I don't think his hard lined disciplined manner would go well in Miami..even though I feel that's exactly what we need

 

He may be too old to be a HC and build something from the ground up. I'll say this, I'd love to see his toughness and disciple instilled in our roster.

 

Who looks at him like that? From all reports, the mood in the NYG facility is one of sadness. They cared about him a lot, which I would think translates to respect. At the very least, I've not heard of a single incident of disrespect.

 

TC would be better that most that Ross will interview. Plus, last time I check, he has a winning record vs Belichick.

 

I think he's a good topic to discuss.

Think about Ross' statement.. Change the culture... Smart.. Demanding... etc. etc.

Tom Coughlin fits a lot of those. Now, of course with his age, he wouldn't be a long term hire, but he'd be a good candidate to come in here, and turn things around and set it up for someone to take over down the road...

 

I didn't see any discipline this year. Did you see the Beckham deal vs Carolina? They lost like 6 games in the last 2 minutes of games. There is alot of work to do here... I think he is about used up.

I used to not like Tom Coughlin.... until he led the Giants to the first superbowl. Thats when I made a complete 180 and became a fan. He is probably one of my favorite coaches in the league, and his willingness to change his ways during that first superbowl run made me respect him even more. (It also has increased his longevity as a coach.)

I will be forever thankful for 18-1.... period.

Come on down Coach. Finish your career in Miami then retire into the tropical sunset!

I've always been a Coughlin fan and I still feel the biggest mistake Jacksonville ever did was let him go. When you're a heartbeat away from the Super Bowl in your second season in the league, with minimal talent in a hodgpodge mixing bowl of a team, you've got a GREAT coach

Then go to New York, THE most difficult city to be a coach or quarterback in and win the Super Bowl not just once, but twice...against everyone's Viagra induced erection of a team, the Patriots? And survive for 12 seasons?

Good articles. I'm leaning towards the experienced HCs this time around after all the failed 1st-timers. I'd be happy with either Coughlin or Shanahan with maybe Hue Jackson as a 3rd. Don't know much about Gase but people seem to like him. He may be a bright football mind but is he a real NFL head coach?
