A lot of guys here have said they want Gurley. I'm not a big fan of us picking him up, though it probably happens.

To me, he's not as good a passing mismatch as Egnew at tight end vs linebackers, but may actually be a better blocker as a compromise if you get ten more pounds onto him and move him to TE. Maybe that's dumb, a la Ernest Wilford, but I just don;t see this guy being a great player at WR. I don't think he sounds better than Roberto Wallace.
What jumps out at me looking at video are his stiff, un-fluid hips and lower lumbar.RickyNeverInhaled likes this. -
I believe the Rams will be the biggest challenge to the Dolphins on the waiver wire wrs.
-
-
I've also heard Cleveland is hurting at WR, but I haven't actually checked their roster.
-
I don't think these guys who are getting cut are going to offer us anything significant this season.
Ronnie Bass and Bpk like this. -

Now it's possible that a team that's loaded could cut somebody who could be a better developmental project, but either way, I think we're going to get guys who can contribute this year only through trade. -
I've had my doubts about Gurley and Borel, whom everyone seemed to talk about way too much. Boykin impressed me more in preseason. I'm in no hurry to be all over Gurley or Borel.
Mardy Gilyard and Marvin McNutt are interesting releases. TE Chase Ford, LB Ryan Rau and DE Montee Taylor make it five players the Eagles released that would interest me.
OL Tom Compton released by the Redskins would interest me. I think TE Evan Moore and FB Emil Igwenagu being released are very interesting, although their roles are no longer positions of need, and so I ultimately would not be interested. Chase Ford has become a decent blocker now so he's more of an all-around TE which is why I'd be interested in him more than a pseudo-WR like Evan Moore.Bpk likes this. -
Don't know much about McNutt or Boykin. No, that's a lie. Know nothing at all about McNutt and Boykin. lol
Out of the guys you listed as interesting, do you have strong enough feelings about any that you think we absolutely should go get him? -
-
LBs def need depth, but mainly at OLB. I'll look at Montee Taylor too. At this point, all I hope for in a DE is a guy with the physical quickness and explosiveness to get to the edge, the strength to anchor... but some mental and technique flaws... since those are correctable. You know, a guy who gets caught up inside instead of staying on the outside shoulder vs the run (assuming they're funnelling the RB inside), a guy who does have hand strength but doesn't use them as well as he needs to, a guy who has only inside or outside moves but could flourish if you expand his repertoire. Those kind of guys. I GOTTA see quick enough, explosive enough lower body movement though. -
Jeron Mastrud is currently on the roster, though they're still cutting guys...so if they keep him, yeah I'd grab Ford over him.
Montee Taylor gets the outside shoulder. He's got great frame to him, gives him core strength and also helps him unlock like a spring and get the edge on the outside. That body of his gives him a high ceiling. He's not going to impress you with lateral quickness. But he's strong. -
Montee Taylor
Not fast, but not horribly slow. Wonder about his 10 yard split, shuttle and would love to know the vertical and BP.

It leaves me unsure of who's the better athlete, but given the quick pass rushing ends I've seen on those Eagles teams, I'm inclined to bring Monte in for a look. Doesn;t sound like a kid who can rely on physical gifts to get to the QB, so it'll come down to how well his position coach thinks he can develop the kids toolset and make up for his current deficiencies. -
I'd rather Tim Fugger than Montee Taylor.
-
Do you think he would have any chance of challenging Odrick for snaps at DE during this season, or is this a long term developmental guy? -

I don't know Montee Taylor at all honestly, which is why I'd prefer Fugger. Familiarity wins!
Edit: I do know he was trying to play 3-4 OLB with the Colts, not DE.Bpk and ckparrothead like this. -

Taylor caught my attention when I was watching Eagles games to try and check out Chase Ford and then I realized what a glut they had at DE. Initially it was just his unique frame and stance that caught my attention. He sort of grew on me as I could see that his strength, frame, 2nd and 3rd steps, all that...gave him a good ceiling and made him a threat in pass rush. Once he grows into it, he could actually be pretty good. Not like I'm saying scrap our plans to draft Bjoern Werner or Dion Jordan next year in favor of Montee Taylor...I just think as we speak right now he might be the best DE pass rusher we'd have on roster other than Cam Wake. -

i have never truly understood the waiver rules. can u explain them to me? where are we on the waiver list? i pretty much know that whoever is first has there pick of available players but is there a time limit?
-
As such, anyone whose skillset actually fits the task is step in the right direction for us. Okay... next question, who would you cut to make room for Montee? -
-
-
Lamar Miller, step right up here. Put your hand here. Now get up off the blocks and try and run around that guy to the quarterback.Stitches likes this. -
Besides, he is an idiot savant at entirely missing the man across from him when blocking... maybe it translates to him being unblockable?? -
Daniel Thomas always looked a lot like Cam Wake. Maybe we should see if he pass rushes like Cam Wake, too. :) -
-
I agree with you, though, that you don;t have to blitz those guys from a secondary spot... just sub one of them in as a ******ed two-point stance edge rusher with three down linemen. lol. Oddie and Starks can muddy up the middle.
would love to see that.
Let's also remember, we haven't had Dansby available to blitz inside. -
