Dolphins cornerback Torry McTyer did everything right on his interception in Friday’s practice. While defending wide receiver Jakeem Grant, McTyer read the slant pattern, jumped the route and finished by using his blazing speed to intercept the pass.
Coaches noticed that play, just as they have the others McTyer has made. That’s why McTyer lined up with the first team for a few snaps Saturday. In past years youngsters would have to show their stuff for a few days before getting snaps with the first team. Things are different now.
“I’ve told the defensive staff ‘Let’s not wait around,’ ” Gase said. “ ‘If we feel like a guy is playing well, give him opportunities, especially with the first group. They feel like he’s played well enough to be put into that spot and compete with that first group.”
The Dolphins are routinely rotating starters on both sides of the ball. But few expected McTyer to earn snaps with the first team so early in training camp.
Perhaps this is the result of the offseason work McTyer did back home in Los Angeles, with former Dolphins cornerback Jamar Taylor (now with Arizona), among others. McTyer said he’s added eight pounds of muscle (he’s up to 190 pounds) while still maintaining his 4.3-second 40-yard dash speed.
“I just want to come out here and do what I can do to help the team win,” he said. “So whatever that is, it is what it is.”

You can NEVER EVER have enough CBs, so this is good news. Still training camp though, so I need to see what he does in the preseason.

I think we're going to be fairly deep at Corner this year. I assumed it was Tanks job to lose, but then we started reading reports of Lippett getting burn with the first unit. Now McTyer has entered the conversation. Look, I don't think it's a bad thing to have five competent cornerbacks on this team (counting McCain). I doubt the Davis kid makes the team, but we will go into the season with five defensive backs that are all capable. That's not a bad thing at all in my opinion. They are all going to play quite a bit I imagine. Injuries to happen, guys do get tired. Our secondary overall is looking really solid. Definitely the strength of our defense.

I would think tank would get the nod provided he doesn't blow assignments. which was really his only problem last year. I like lippett as the 3rd boundary
tanks made less "business decisions" in the nfl than he did in college.Irishman likes this. -
I think the biggest story of camp so far is how Howard is shutting down Parker completely.

Just kidding!
Howard is clearly playing well, as far as the other three, I think it is the most interesting camp battle we have going on.
It's a very good problem to have, 3 guys fighting for one spot and all are playing well.KeyFin and Surfs Up 99 like this. -

IMO most WR evals are focused on the wrong things. We focus too much on size and speed. The most important determinants of success are an ability to get separation, good hands (duh!), instincts to track the ball and a enough work ethic and intelligence. A guy like Antonio Brown, who I think may be the toughest cover in the league, came in being great at getting separation b/c he had great suddenness and not much else. Everything else we could measure was pretty average or even below average. His hands were okay but nothing special. He struggled with contested catches. He clearly needed more strength. He had below average size. His speed was good, just under 4.5, but not incredible. I thought he was decent to good at tracking the ball. He was productive in college at a small school. IMO he was successful in the NFL b/c he was good at getting separation, could track the ball in the air and had an incredible work ethic. That work ethic was applied to his route running and hands (two things you can definitely improve). It's difficult, if not impossible, to predict who'll have that great work ethic at the next level. But if a guy comes in able to get separation and track the ball and seems to have enough intelligence and work ethic then he's worth a shot and can easily be better than the guys with monster speed/size ratios who get drafted in the first round. Obviously, I'm not saying that Ford is Antonio Brown, but I am saying that if a guy can get separation and track the ball coming out then there's no reason to put a ceiling on his potential. I'm anxious to watch him in some actual games on this level.Superself, mbsinmisc, Surfs Up 99 and 4 others like this. -
His worth ethic seems to be on point though..
Just wanna keep his draft status and roster spot in persoective, I’m definitely gonna look at that 6th wide receiver at practice and scrimmage this week..Surfs Up 99 and Irishman like this. -

I’m not sure what your talking about..
Talent for talent ford is not in Parker’s league imo, now if you wanna talk about the other reasons besides pure talent that he possesses over Parker I understand..
I’ll give you smart, and hard working, and how to be a pro.Irishman likes this. -
Ford also is better at getting separation. That was my knock on Parker coming out and I see it as critical to succeeding in the NFL. As I explained above, I don't believe people focus on the right things when evaluating WR "talent". I doubt anybody would have argued that Antonio Brown was talent for talent in the same league as Parker if you compared them coming out, for whatever that mattered.Superself, Irishman, mbsinmisc and 1 other person like this. -
I don’t think the Dolphins can keep both Ford and Parker on the roster.
Can/will the Dolphins risk losing Ford if they try to stash him on the PS?
If he keeps playing well through camp/preseason I think you have a huge logjam at WR and Parker for a 4th would be something you would have to swallow hard and consider.
We aren’t cutting Stills/Grant/Wilson or Amendola. So the trajectory is leaning toward lose Ford and keep Parker or vice versa. -
when a "contender" loses a Wr, there will be a market.

I doubt we could get a 3rd, but I would settle for a 4th.Surfs Up 99, Redwine4all and Irishman like this. -

I'd try to squeeze a team for maybe a 3rd and 6th. But I would go for a 4th and 7th.Irishman and Surfs Up 99 like this. -
