I agree that it is a troubling trend. Excuses can be made (and have been) for any single incident, but the reality is that this F.O.'s reputation as arrogant, whether deserved or not, continues to grow. While money will always be the #1 factor for most FAs, it's naive to believe that the F.O.'s reputation won't be a factor especially, in situations where the money is roughly the same and the competing bidders are also contenders.

We never knew what went down with the Matt Roth situation either .A second round pick who was showing potential and who was summarily released without getting anything in return.Another head scratcher .
However if the Dolphins have a good season all will be forgotten. If we have another mediocre season and the free agents and draft picks dont pan out as expected then Ireland deserves to be questioned..jetssuck, jdang307 and LandShark13 like this. -
Their attitude, and arrogance and seemingly complete disregard towards the media is so very counter to the atmosphere that Ross "says" he is trying to build for the franchise. The more they act as an "ivory tower" they further themselves from their own longterm goal of having long lasting jobs. Yes if they hit on Odrick and Misi, that will cure a lot of ill will between Ireland and Ross, but if they flop, Ireland's days will be numbered. Ireland is becoming a pariah, and Ross will not tolerate that.
This will be very interesting to watch. -
This is a non issue. This front office have done great. You want to go back to being mediocre go cheer for another team. Even if Odrick and Misi flop it doesnt mean anything. This offseason is the best offseason in years.

People are just plain overreacting. That's a fact.
This front office is much more mellow compared to the Saban years here.SeanP, Dolphin Don, DOLPHAN1 and 4 others like this. -
This is a issue, as the story points out, that in the present (Ryan Clark) and in the future if they are still here, FA's may steer clear of Miami because they just don't want to be given the same treatment some of the veterans have gotten from this FO.
Mr Ross at one point is gonna say he's had enough and they will be gone. -
Well, the one thing that has surprised me about all of this is the lack of attention that has been given to the fact that Jason Taylor flat out lied when he said he was offered 1 contract last season, he was offered one at the end of the season as well, he declined that and signed with the Jest.
Dolphins Icon blah blah blah, folks he dumped the Dolphins to go play for the Jest, then whined on his way to NY that he wasn't getting "respect".
But by all means, cry about Ireland doing his job. -

Yet another story? I don't even know if I'd call this a story, there's no new information in there, just rehashed information twisted a little bit to make Ireland and Co. look bad. To say that Jason Taylor was "straight up insulted" is LAUGHABLE. Jason Taylor was offered an extension and turned it down. Where does the insulting part come in? And I understand ZT's agent was the one that asked about a press conference, not ZT himself. The more time goes by, the more twisted these stories become and next thing you know people preach it like gossip queens. This crap needs to stop, let's play some friggin football already...

It's all perception and people jumping to conclusions cause they are hearing stuff that usually doesn't make the media.
I mean really you guys think Ireland is less professional then say A.J. Smith out in San Diego?
People are just letting the media drag em around by the balls and it's sad. -

And we all know Zach was just reactionary cause it was his brother in law...I mean who is he going to back? His ex-team or family? Family wins out every time. And we know J.T. has quite the ego so.
It's not like Ireland is out there giving our fans the finger like Rex Ryan. -

Nice little non-story there. I was half-expecting him to be outed as a former Hell's Angel or something to that effect.

By the way can we officially put a ban on bleacherreport stuff?
I mean really any tool out there can go make up stuff and write for them.
It's like twitter...it allows anyone to make reports there.Stitches likes this. -
Total non-issue IMO.
Here is your proof:
If the Dolphins win 12 games this year, I GUARAN-effin-TEE you no dusche on ESPN (or bleacher, pft, etc.) will harp on this ever again. They'll be too busy on their knees for this FO and what great a coaching job Parcells is doing. It's only an issue when you lose, because the media only gets on a high-horse when you lose. Just ask Kobe. -
Hmm...for some reason I'm thinking of a parody of "Strait outta Compton"
"Strait outta Davie...a GM with attitude...he gonna get accused of being rude.. "

As much I respect what ZT and JT did for our team, they were no longer fits. They will both get their recognition after they retire, not as they move on to play with another team. I do hope Zach gets his this year and have already started sending emails to voice my belief. That will be the real test to the theories postulated in this article.
Dansby and Marshall didn’t seem to have any problem signing on with the aqua and orange. Is it out of the realm of possibility that the FO didn’t feel comfortable with the motives of Clark or Pace either?
I find the Bryant issue to be the opening of a can of worms and doubt if a severe action will be levied on Ireland. This is more of a league-wide problem than an isolated incident. I find it pretty ironic that the guy with the most red flags in a long time is the one to sing about it. -

As Boomer put it, this has become a witch hunt with the reporters all hailing from Salem. Unfortunately, a few on this board are getting the stones together to press Ireland to see if he survives. I wish someone really had the stones to question Bryant closely about the conversation rather than just take everything at the worst possible face value! -
I Cant believe I just wasted time reading that crap. Sure, he dropped the ball with the Bryant thing... Not a great choice.
The ZT deal... big deal. His time had come, so we wouldn't let him have a press conference on team property. Big deal. I really dont think its that major of an issue.
The JT deal... we retracted the offer? Uhm... didnt JT refuse the offer mid season because he wanted to wait till after the year knowing that there probably wouldn't be a salary cap so he could check his value, and potentially get himself a fatter contract????
The Pace deal... he was bitter because he signed with our rival, for more cash. So, we wouldn't inflate his ego more by giving him a fatter contract? Ireland is the one to blame for this? Well... the GM's job is to find players, at a value good to the team & salary cap right?
The Clark deal... same as above. Pretty obvious to me that Clark wanted to be a Steeler regardless, and was just out checking his value. Why else would you get off a plane and tell everyone, I dont want to leave without a contract. Sounds a bit funny to me. Then whats he do? Runs back to the Steelers, for more cash. So, yet again, we wouldnt give him the size of contract he wanted, or thought he was worth. And when did Clark state he felt uncomfortable with our FO? I didn't see it, sounds like a convenient excuse to cover up what he was actually in Miami for.
Guess what.... The common theme here, especially in the JT, Pace, and Clark deals to me is that they wanted more than their value was to our team. We turned them away, or made them an offer that they refused. Now all of a sudden its arrogance on the part of our GM because we were smart enough to not over pay for Pace, Clark, or JT???
God I hate the media... The guy asks a player if his mom is a prostitute, now every personnel decision is going to be questioned, and if it didnt turn out in the teams favor he's going to be torn apart for it? Give me a break... I have no issues at all with either of the situations mentioned in this article other than the Bryant thing... Our perceived value of the players in question, was not the same as the players own perceived value of himself, they went elsewhere. I'd say thats exactly what we want Ireland to be doing no? Making smart business decisions for our team based on talent, and the cap/budget set out by the league or owners??phineas64, anlgp, Finsanity and 1 other person like this. -
Unless the answers 'yes,' which would justify Irelands asking of the question. -

Wow. Didn't we ask Jason to get a surgery RIGHT after the season so we could evaluate him and get a deal done quickly? -
Yep, that is right, Taylor rejected two offers from Ireland, then whined about "a lack of respect, I've been in this game a long time.." whilst the Gulfstream to the Jest's facility was warming up on the tarmac.
All of that "they are classless" is simply nonsense, people who say that simply refuse to see what actually happened and focus on a reality were Taylor not only rejected the Dolphins two offers, but chose the Jets.SeanP, DOLPHAN1, Ozzy and 1 other person like this. -

I want a front office that builds a winning team, I think we have that, how many highly paid successful front office people are nice in any field? I guess being in the Army I'm not used to people being so thin skinned, not that the NFL is the Army but I really don't see how this Bryant thing got public, it seemed like a one on one talk that should have just be handled behind the scenes.
I never had any illusions about Parcells being a dick, he always has been an ahole, Ireland is from the same mold I'm sure. Kind of ironic that when Belicheat is a POS its just him being Belicheat and its a source of humor but when others do it its time for the NFLPA to step in. -
That is from a "source" and I actually heard Ireland say that in a one on one interview with (kim bokamper?) after the draft. -
See how much the fans care about 'nice' after a 1-15 season again. -
How many draft busts have we had prior to Irish being hired? Didn't we set a record for draft futility for the 2000's?
The Dolphins are just beginning to get back to Jimmy Johnson levels of Organizational Competence, we still have to plumb deeper to reach later Shula Era. -
http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_seasonticket/2010/04/dolphins-agent-disputes-espn-report.html -
The GM who made the offers that were rejected, or the "icon" who went to the hated rival?
Who leaked the "secret meeting" before Taylor went to NY? The one who scheduled it, the Dolphins, or the player who had his mind made up already.
And Taylor said there was an offer in a phone interview, Wilchard later disputed that, but there has been no dispute since Irish said they made a second offer..on camera.. -
Ireland is arrogant, but they are blowing this way out of proportion. Even though Ireland is arrogant he made a public apology and we don't know in what context the question was asked to begin with. Yea, it was in bad taste but did he really think that about Bryants mother or was he trying to judge his reaction. Truth is we don't know.
My Mom is deceased but if someone had asked me if she was a prostitute I would have said "No", why did you ask? The public apology has been given I just wish they would let it die so we can concentrait on Dolphin's football.
