general tsoNew MemberOPHere's how this casual observer would like to see the draft unfolding for us at this point. Way too early for a mock? Yeah, but here it goes nonetheless...
1 - Chris Long, DE, Virginia
Al Groh says Long's the 2nd best player he's ever coached at any level. Who was the best? Lawrence Taylor, while coaching under Bill Parcells.
2a - Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona
Been missing that lock down #1 CB since Madison's decline and the Surtain trade. How this guy isn't a consensus first round pick right now is a mystery to me, but I'd love to see him starting opposite Will Allen if we don't land a #1 CB via free agency.
2b (from SD) - Martin Rucker, TE, Missouri
Great size and receiving ability, does not go down on the first contact. Blocking skills/technique need a lot of work, but he's got the tools to improve there. Parcells teams usually feature a quality pass catching TE.
3 - Robert Felton, OG, Arkansas
Goes from opening up holes for McFadden, to opening up holes for Ronnie Brown.
4 - Erik Ainge, QB, Tennessee
The next Derek Anderson, Matt Schaub or David Garrard? At least there would be some type of fall back if Beck isn't the answer. Ainge's stock could rise significantly with good performances in the outback and senior bowls.
6 - Dominique Barber, S, Minnesota
Would provide help for a struggling special teams unit and depth at safety. Another "family" pick for Miami (too bad Marion doesn't come with him).
7 - Jason Shirley, DT, Fresno State
Great size, but a lot of maturity issues. Worth the risk if he slides this far.
We would need LB's if Parcells brings in a guy to run a 3-4 defense like he prefers.
thats actually a real good draft. do u think Cason makes it to the 2nd? he'd be a sure steal.
i think the draft will look easier after the FA signing period. and if we decide to part ways with players for picks.

Doesn't Parcells like a good solid Defense?? Miami's D is getting old so don't be surprised if we do take a D-Lineman. Let's see with Cam/Mueller in the 2007 Draft...the first 4 picks were Offensive players. Out of 10 players picked in the 7 Rounds of the draft only 3 were Defensive players. So...I think with Parcells "making the calls" would go with Defense in the upcoming Draft.

Oh yes we are. Especially since Chris Long's potential may be higher than Mario Williams. Chris Long has been a one man machine/beast.
And has been compared to the best pass rushing defensive players. I even heard he's the best pass rusher since Lawrence Taylor once, a player Parcells has coached.

SMOKEforum_veteranNice mock. I like everything but the Shirley pick. The guy isn't worth the risk. He was suspended twice already this year. The most recent was his DUI, hit and run in October. When a 350lb man blows a .12 into the breathalyzer, you know he likes to drink....A LOT. I doubt anyone will draft him.

I like the top 3 picks a lot and they can all be there...I have liked Chris Long from the start and Rucker too, if Cason is there you take him.

Like I said, I'm not sure why the Kiper Jr's, McShay's, Mayock's, Wright's and all of the experts aren't listing Cason in their top 25-30 players. I see Cason as a #1 CB for a long time in this league and by draft day I think the experts will have him going in the first round where he belongs.

Agreed, but we have so many holes and only a few draft spots to fill them. Adibi in the second round sounds good to me.

The Chris Long pick makes a lot of sense and I believe that's the way we'll go unless Bill can't get a veteran QB, doesn't think Beck's the guy AND thinks Ryan or Brohm are #1 pick worthy.

Might be right, but there's been prospects that have done a lot worse than anything Shirley's done and still been drafted.
Brown42000New MemberI would love to see Rey Maluga from USC to come down to Miami, if he falls to number 32 he would have to be a no brainer as he is the perfect size to be a middle linebacker in the 3-4 scheme at 6'2 and 252 punds.
I'd like to see a LT, MLB, or WR in thet mix. We'll see how free agency affects the draft.

rucker looks small for a tight end he has height but he has a small fame ...you need a tight -end who can block

I'm not quite sold on Chris Long just yet. Besides, I think it's more important for us to shore up the middle of our defense (whether it's NT, DT, or, God forbid, MLB). And why is no one talking about us getting either one of the Jenkins cornerbacks? Mike Jenkins(Ohio State) or Malcolm Jenkins(South Florida). I thought they were both supposed to be elite cornerback prospects.
