Tua..

Eff off. I posted a national news story, and asked what people thought.
And in that thread must said they thought it appropriate to be waiting on handing out a contract.My stand on Tua is simple and clear;
Many many times I have stated that I believed Tua, barring injury, would have a good NFL career, and that he is, at worst an above average QB. If you want me to say he's elite, then he needs to give me more than 2/3rds of a season, or one game here and there.
You listed a news story about him not getting an extension yet and said this
“Are we surprised? Apparently the front office isn't sold on Tua anymore than some of us on here are.”
Lol..
It’s all good if you’re not sold yet..
Just own it

He keeps referring to it as a "national news story" too for some reason, like it's this controversial, hotly debated argument all over the country.

Herbert is Phillip Rivers 2.0.
I disagree
Herbert is a very good Qb imo.. So is Tua
Rivers was the most overrated Qb if all time

Incredible performance by Tua, he played up to his capabilities.
Most people on here who know ball and watched him earn the #1 QBR in the league early last year, already knew this is the level Tua can play at.
One big area Tua did appear to take a step forward and was noticeably improved… Was his movement in the pocket and his overall awareness of his surroundings in the pocket. He was stepping up or sidestepping and Making subtle movement to avoid pressure and help his offensive lineman.
Very encouraging if he can keep that up and better protect himself from big hits.
exactly, he has improved. Some one here are talking as if TUA today is the same as all the other years. He is not, he has improved and is becoming elite.

Great photos showing the game within the game. See how Tua is looking downfield? Defense is all reacting to where he's looking.
Then, he throws to Smythe and the closest defender is four yards off the play. Perfect execution.
Tua said his first read was downfield, so yes he was looking down field.

On that throw to Hill, Tua was about to throw it to Waddle. His hands are separating in this still shot and he sees Waddle slipping.

He resets, climbs the pocket to avoid pressure, and throws an absolute dime to Hill at crunch time.
This single play should kill all the false narratives of pre-determining where he is throwing "no matter what", not being able to make plays off script, not being able to throw outside the numbers, not being able to throw late, not being able to throw off platform, needing to set his feet to throw deep.... ALL OF THEM. Save a video clip of this and play it before posting one of those narratives again.
This will forever more be known as my "GTFOOH throw".
Gotta give props to the OL too, last year he likely is sacked.

Mahomes without Kelce (and Hill) didn’t exactly look like Mahomes in week 1. Even then his options were probably still better that what Tua was throwing to in his first 2 years.
Every elite QB needs a plus to ascend.
Lots of drops .... he cant catch the ball too.

I've got the haters and agenda pushers on ignore. Now...As far as Tua goes, I think the biggest difference I saw yesterday was how physically fit he looked. The guy just looks stronger all around. I also noticed that his throws have some zip on them. He wasn't just out there throwing ducks. The guy puts it on the numbers and he's dead on accurate.
The Titans/Saints game was the only other game I watched yesterday and not to bash Tannehill, but he was off! Way off. Tannehill had two crucial misses that should have gone for TDs. They were both overthrows that pretty much decided the game. I'm going to bet the house that Tua WOULD NOT have missed on those throws. Both would have been house calls...Even against a stellar Saints defense.
Titans/Saints, I saw both Quarterbacks struggle because of how defensive the game was. Carr was off at times as well, but he made all the right throws when it mattered the most and that was the difference between him and Tannehill in that game. I only mention this game because I think at some point this year we're going to play in a few of these ourselves. Not every game we play this year is going to be some massive offensive explosion. We're going to get into a couple of sloppy dog fights this year and the hope is that Tua can do for us what Carr was able to do for New Orleans yesterday. That being that he did not lose the game, making the right throws when they needed to be made, and putting the team in a position to be able to get some sort of points on the board.
We're going to see all sorts of game scenarios/plots/storylines this year. I actually think next week against New England is going to be more of a defensive battle. Don't expect Tua to erupt for 400 yards passing and 4 TDs. If he does, then buckle up because he's going to be doing that to the entire league this year. New England has a great defense. The hope is that Tua just drops a deuce on them anyway, but the realistic hope is that he can play smart, control the game, and make the right decisions that lead us to a win.
Hoping our defense can dominate their OL. There OL was brutal in preseason. That should give us more chances to score.

I’ve only read the first page of posts. First off, QUIT THE PERSONAL SHOTS!!!!!! KNOCK IT OFF!!!!
There are some posts I read that are as stupid as a football bat. What do I do? Roll my eyes and keep reading on.
Now on to the topic at hand…
What an utterly amazing performance by Tua!!! 466 yards passing. That’s insane! What’s even more amazing about those yard is the air yards. 310 of those yards were passes down the field. That’s BALLS!!! The Dolphins weren’t just throwing the ball, they were ATTACKING.
I wanted to say one thing though about the discussion about the weapons Tua has and it’s THEM that made/makes Tua look good…
If that’s the case, then it wasn’t all Marino. It was Duper, Clayton and Moore than made Marino look good.
Mahomes and Kelce?
Montana and Rice?
Aikmen and Irvin?
Bradshaw and Stallworth/Swann?Great quarterbacks have great receivers. You can’t have one without the other…but it doesn’t diminish the quarterback.
After all, someone had the throw the ball to those receivers.
Marino is the only one of the ones you commented about that does not have a HOF receiver. Assuming Kelce will make the HOF down the road.
Lord help us.
What's not to like about a QB who is getting better every single season?
Miami has their franchise QB, and I haven't been able to say that since Marino. Only health could threaten that status, and that's true of every player in the NFL.
"StaleTacos wrote:
You aren't following. I'm not the one calling Tua OR Herbert elite. I don't think either are elite. If they are to be elite, they need to be elite consistently and for a full season. What's your confusion in my position?
Maybe list who you think is elite ?

The only concern are his past injuries.

Of course I do. You talk endlessly about Tua/consistency then back track when your boy Herbert is brought into the conversation. That's just one example of many reasons posters here have your number.
You're so busy trying to pull the wool ove OUR eyes you fail to realize you're only kidding yourself.
The post YOU quoted said I need to see elite play for a full sseason from BOTH of them to think of them as elite. I don't think either is elite. So again, what is your problem?
If he fails to get a deal done with Tua I'm joining the call for "Grier has to go". -cbrad

True. But I love that Tua and the coaches were proactive about doing everything they could in their power to mitigate the risks associated with last year's concussions. If Tua finishes this season healthy, I wouldn't be shocked if a similar jiu-jitsu program that Tua took part in becomes part of most QB's off season training regiment.
"dolphin25 wrote:

Great post. The comparison isn't warranted statistically. One is consistently above average but hasn't improved at all while the other keeps improving and is playing himself towards an elite QB.
The only reason the comparison keeps being made is because there are some posters who keep focusing on physical traits instead of performance and think we made a massive mistake taking Tua. In their minds Tua is merely an average to slightly above average QB, which is just ridiculous given the emerging evidence.

I heard he only throws to spots that are determined pre-snap..... Trent said so.....
Film first, numbers second. If the numbers don’t match what is seen on film, something is likely wrong with the numbers.

Maybe Josh Allen because he is consistently elite. He never throws bad picks...oh.... crap....

I don't think anyone here doubts Mahomes. They are just pointing out that even he needs a decent supporting cast.

Tua looked like the best QB in the league this week.
Since it is the discussion - Herbert and Tua can both be great. But, if you need a clutch play in a big spot...I think a lot of people (even non-Dolphins fans) are starting to believe they'd take Tua over Herbert in that moment. And that's not a small thing.

If you noticed yesterday, after Tua threw the game winning TD pass they showed Herbert walking back to the bench to get his helmet looking like "damn, I gotta go back out there and try to win this?"

This is revisionist history btw. Many many times you said or implied that at best Tua is a slightly above average QB. Not "at worst" lol. And you often say that when clarifying your positions!

I've said ALL ALONG that a Tua is at best a slightly above average NFL QB. Barring serious injury, I expect Tua to have a decent NFL career. I'm not interested in trying to build a team around that guy. You gonna build a team around Jay Fielder? LMFAO. You guys I think are mesmerized by his collegiate numbers, and the pundit talk leading up to his overdraft position.

Personally, I'd franchise tag and let him repeat it. Then I'd be pretty comfortable with the long term deal.

I'm beginning to think Herbert will be considered Rivers by the end of his career if he continues to show limited improvement.
