Chad Henne, 768 career passing attempts in Miami 476 completions
Tyler Thigpen 446 career passing attempts and 242 completions only 10 completions while in Miami.
Basically, we are heading into the Bears game with a Qb who has completed 10 passes and thrown 3 Td's and 3 int's for the Dolphins in two seasons.
Let's keep some perspective on what the coaching staff has seen from Thigpen, which is not a whole lot, he has made it into 3 games while in Miami so maybe some reasonable expectations are in order?
Now granted, Thiggy does flash down the field and he does have a quick release and good feet, but those are just tools, not results.
Those are some good reasons why Chad Henne's status is being kept under wraps, if Thigpen flames out, they have to keep Henne active or the only other option is Patrick Ramsey...say that out loud "we will make a playoff run with Patrick Ramsey"?
Er, not likely.

Well, Lacanfora liked him in 09, but the asking price was too high, he does make a solid case for him but still..10 completions fellas, and I like Thiggy (and Penny and Henne, I like Henne enough to want him to do better rather than just the "he sux") so let's temper things a bit.Disnardo, MarinePhinFan, Pandarilla and 3 others like this. -

From listening to the various interviews the last couple of days , the team/players like his arm , think he is throwing well in practise and the coaches feel he has good field vision when he extends a play.
That is or can be a key imo , it is not overly beneficial to just extend a play by scrambling , but to be able to see how passing lanes have been created by this and then execute is.
Thigpen also stated he and Marshall have a good relationship , going back to KC/Denver. Think he will make it a priority to get him the ball. Listening to Marino on his show with Joe Rose , he expressed bewilderment that Miami can't or doesn't get Marshall the ball. Have to know that wouldn't be the case with 13 taking snaps . -
I'm waiting to hear what Salisbury has to say about him, he has no reason to toe the corporate line so imo he will shoot straight with what he sees.
I'm loving this thursday night game, double upped Dolphins games.. -
And yes, I realize that the above statement can be taken to be good or bad.Springveldt, padre31 and jetssuck like this. -

He'll be called either Marino, or Marilyn Monroe by someone within the next week I'm willing to bet. -
They are prepared to defend pocket passing statues, not a gambling scrambler.
:D
Beast will have a big role as I expect a large amount of sideline routes, like hooks and curls and outs to minimize the risk of a Thiggy sail ball.
But that also means Beast can use the sideline to shield him from defenders and high point passes.finyank13 likes this. -
Thiggy is the answer or you can close the book on this one

I think he is talented enough to play better than any starting QB we've had this year or last. I also think he is undisciplined (and not accurate) enough to where it wouldn't surprise me if he faltered worse than any QB we've had the past 2 years.Rhody Phins Fan, jetssuck and finyank13 like this. -

None of them had any reason to truly dislike them, unlike say Fedler or Culpepper or Feeley or even Pat White, had when they were in Miami.
Better quality Qb's maybe the reason?
Speaking of which, is Byron Leftwich signed anywhere? -

I think he matches up well with Marshall and he might also give the running game a boost.
Whatever happens, he'll be interesting to watch...lol -

In 2008, Thigpen had a 5.8 AY/A. If you take out his first three starts, he finished the year with an AY/A of 6.7. That doesn't include his rushing yards. Henne was at 5.5 last year and 6.0 this year, on a much better offensive team. I think Thigpen is going to really improve this offense.

not really rocket science when his career completion percentage is around 53.xx

we havent had a lot to cheer about or be optimistic about this season.jetssuck likes this. -
One thing that I always liked about Thigpen was how he came into an inaugural football program up here at CCU and made the program competitive and even dominant right from the start. There were no scenes out of Necessary Roughness in that fledgling program, and that was because of TT.

yeah good points with several posters. i agree with jetssuck when he says no matter what the final score is it should at least be interesting. Thigpen is exciting to watch. Much more so than Pennington or Henne. But thats a double edged sword. I know with Pennington and Henne I dont really fear interceptions. I know Henne threw alot so far but they came in bunches. Generally Henne either throws it away or completes it. With Thigpen I actually get excited every time he throws. Its partly because he attacks downfield but also partly because I'm worried about a pick being thrown.
At the end of the day I think Padre is right. He's a 3rd string QB on Miami who was a 3rd string QB in Kansas City. He was 3rd string behind Cassell, Croyle, Henne and Pennington. Not exactly one Peyton Manning in that bunch. Still, you never know. He's been kept around because of potential so maybe now is the time when it all comes together for him the way it did for Romo, Rodgers or even Delhomme for a couple of years way back when. Still we have to remember that 25% of our starters are either banged up or out for this next game and we have two hurt offensive linemen. We should lose by all accounts. But hey its football and we're Miami and we've won plenty of games we should have lost. Hell, AJ Feeley beat Tom Brady once lolMikeHoncho and maynard like this. -

This will be the first time he'll prepare/gameplan with the first team offense. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best at this point.
Perhaps preparation this time around should make a difference in his approach. -
Thiggy has made plays when given a shot, but in Miami, that means a whopping 10 completed passes, so maybe folks should wait a bit before getting TO excited about Thiggy. -

Of course he was Dan the Man , so he didn't really have to worry over minute concerns like being benched or reprimanded ! -

Some ways, if we have to rely on the Wildcat more, I wouldn't mind having him, but the drop back and pass thing...not so much.
White could have run the veer and option and wishbone or even the triple option.
Good flexibility from the WC. -

TT can really provide some unique wrinkles imo. Not sure how many this week , due to short prep time , but confident if he starts further into the season we will have some very different looks and formations.
He could take Ricky's spot and have the option to continue at full speed with a run or read any open receivers and hit them instride , or pull up and pull the trigger on a shorter/intermediate route.
With his ability to throw on the run , I can see some situations where we can utilize wildcat plays in a fashion we have not yet done.
Fresh wrinkles Padre Wally ;)
BTW , now that your season has ended with a first round playoff loss , do you think you can stop being a part time poster?
Get with the program bud !padre31 likes this. -

Not going to happen, Thigpen is too valuable to put in that situation, we may see Ronnie B throw from the WC Thiggy will be off of the field when the WC is run.
White in that mix would have been nice, but it is what it is, Ryan Perriloux's season is over in the UFL if we want that dimension.
The UFL season winding down, with fmr Dolphins players presence on the CT Colonnials on that roster do not be surprised if we see 2 or 3 UFLers wind up in Miami.
For some reason Daunte Culpepper's name is sticking in my head, why, do not know.
Planning on doing a write up on CFL to NFL prospects, but suspect it will be a much shorter list than it was in 09.
Phil Hunt is going to command big money, well relatively big money, he is a good prospect. -
You're too much to be taken seriously anymore
1 week it's Penny but the Elmer's glue couldn't keep his shoulder together...now Thiggy is the answer...oh god.
I bet you thought Pat White was the answer last year too.
