...what I thought they were. Still a second rate team.
Elite teams win these games.
Elite teams win home games. Elite teams win games coming off "their best practice in two years".
Elite teams dont give up 31 points at home.
We have made progress under the tri-fecta. But we are a second echelon team. We are not in the same conversation as the excellent teams in this league.

I would say Pittsburgh is the only elite team in the AFC... That defense (aka Troy Pallawhateverhisnameis) is great. Once Big Ben comes back, they're going to be tough to beat.
Indy still has Peyton Manning and that's enough to give them a chance to be elite.
Other than that, there's a bunch of good teams in the AFC. We're in that mix IMO. Where exactly in that mix, top or bottom, I don't know.

Nooo...unfortunately the Dolphins are not godly and still make mistakes like normal human beings.

pitt might be. i still want to see a bit more out of them. the ravens game will say alot IMO. but other than them i agree there's a bunch of good teams with strengths and weaknesses like us. we are in the mix and if we continue to improve throughout the season we could do some damage.

A few more players and we can be an elite team. I think we need some more explosiveness out of the backfield. R&R are solid, but not elite, and they don't really break any or go the distance. Picking up a Jahvid Best, Jamaal Charles or Dexter McCluster type player would help in that regard. A receiving tight end couldn't hurt either. Fasano is a second fiddle guy playing as a number 1. If we can find a Keller or Shiancoe, that would also elevate us.
Defensively, we are pretty solid overall, just need more gelling time, and any experience our younger kids can get. I think we missed Oddrick in this game on the edge.

I agree. I think we could use a better cover man or two in our defensive secondary. Our d-backs are all still pretty young but they are learning and getting better. I thought Jason Allen was improving but he has a really bad night. :pity:
I think we can use a great Tight End. Fasano is ok, but he is not a Dallas Clark/Jason Whitten/Antonio Gates. He is pretty average. We also need a fast speedy back/kick returner....someone like a Dexter McCluster...I think Noel Devine of WVU is the type of guy we need to target in next year's draft. We are close but not quite there, but it's still nice to be 2-1 and tied for first.
james rodgers in the latter rounds....i'd also love d.j. williams from arkansas

Did you expect us to be an "elite team" this year?
I didn't.
I knew we were still going to have holes and glaring problems when playing upper echelon teams. Were hardly second rate though. This team has talent and if we continue to make good moves I in the draft and FA the next couple years we could be special.
It's a big dissapointment to lose your home opener against a division foe like we did but were just not as good as they are yet.

As good as Pitt is, the Tampa Bucs are bad.
How on earth do you give up 31 points at home to a team being led by Charlie Batch?
THATS BAD.
This is right. If we get more explosive on offense and someone who can cover a TE, we have a chance. Right now, we are "just a good team". There is nothing special about this team. Nothing. Defense? Please. Look at that score. Second rate.
I can tell some are "hating" because I tell the truth. Its not personal. Its just the way it is.
I dunno. Yeah, I guess. I have high expectations. But regardless of what expectations were, and regardless of by whom, you or me, the result is the same. This is not an exceptional team by any means. We need to get better. We need more players. We need better players. After the "best Friday practice in two years", I expect to win home games.
I understand and fully accept that there will be those who dont have high expectations and accept this kind of performance. We just disagree.
