1. Dolphins current OLB position.
a) Who are the starters as of today?
b) What do we need?
c) Nolan had Robert Ayers in R1 last year. Should we be looking for a similar type?a)
We thought the best thing to do was look at who would currently be the starters. With Jason
Taylor likely jettisoned until after the draft at best, we batted around the ideas that Cameron Wake would absolutely be Mike Nolan’s weakside Elvis Dumervil, a position he seems a natural for given his upfield ability. (Dumervil dropped back around 150 plays last season, at about 20% of total snaps).
Our arguments came on the strong side; Chris thought Charlie Anderson would get the gig, whilst Richard and I went with Quentin Moses: “Has to be Anderson. These guys are all about experience” said Chris. But Richard chimed in with: “I think Anderson could be the passing guy on the strong side in terms of carrying the TE, but as the starter over there? Don’t see it.” Quickly followed by me: “I agree. I don't see Anderson as starting the SLB.”
Chris wasn’t finished, confidently adding: “Anderson played some linebacker in a 4-3, I think Nolan will like that. We're talking about right now as we sit here to day, obviously we'll be drafting at least one guy, but come training camp Charlie Anderson opens as a starter I guarantee it.” But I snuck back in with the following: “They must have a plan for Moses though - keeping him around first off given how little he’s contributed and then tending him a 3rd round pick.”
We agreed to disagree for our own sanities that it would be either Anderson or Moses till we drafted better players on the strong side. We all agreed that our OLB situation, Wake aside, is perilous.
